Morning Gold & Silver Market Report - 10/10/201410/10/2014 8:27:18 AM By: Paul Stevens
METALS DOWN SLIGHTLY AS U.S. STOCKS STRUGGLE Precious Metal prices are slightly down through early morning trading.  After four days of consecutive gains, a stronger dollar caused the metals to take a slight dip. However, with  many still concerned about the possibility of a widespread economic slowdown, the metals should continue to have support. Afshin Nabavi, head of trading at MKS, said, " Gold is just following the dollar tick by tick -- if the dollar goes up, Gold does the opposite." U.S. stocks took a sharp downturn Friday, extending losses for the week.  With equities struggling and fears of slowing global economic growth,  a spike in volatility has investors concerned about riskier assets. Jonathan Sudaria, a dealer at Capital Spreads in London, said, " Bad economic data is now being viewed as bad and the dovish signals from central banks are now being taken as a sign of weakness rather than a reason to ramp up equities." It has not been easy being a believer in gold over the past two years. Gold is down about 37% from its 2011 top. The biggest portion of the drop took place over two days in April 2013 when gold plunged roughly $200 from $1,564 to $1,360 when someone dumped 400 to 500...

Closing Gold & Silver Market Report  - 10/9/201410/9/2014 4:01:35 PM By: Peter LaTona
GOLD, SILVER MAINTAIN GAINS STOCKS DIVE 300 POINTS   The U.S. stock market had its worst day of the year and more than erased yesterday' s rally. The U.S. corporate earnings and jobs reports were nearly overlooked as traders focused on global concerns, especially in the eurozone. Add the global economic concerns to geopolitical tension and a growing Ebola threat, and you get a big market drop. " To some extent we' ve lost the optimism that drove the markets higher over the course of the year, whether it' s worry about the impact of people dying of the latest contagion, whether worry about what will happen when the [U.S. Federal Reserve] is no longer pumping money into the economy, or Europe and the slowing there," Key Private Bank Chief Investment Strategist Bruce McCain said. Gold retailers and traders in India imported more Gold in September than they had in 15 months. The last week of the month put them over the top as they took advantage of lower Gold prices. At the same time, they are stocking up for an anticipated huge festival season demand. In September 2013, Gold imports were at $682 million and this year they are at $4 billion. On a year-over-year basis, Gold imports jumped more than 500 percent. At 5:00 p.m. (ET), the APMEX Precious Metals spot prices were:

Morning Gold & Silver Market Report  -  10/9/201410/9/2014 8:13:41 AM By: Ryan Schwimmer
GOLD, SILVER RECOVER SHARPLY AFTER FED MINUTES After the Federal Reserve' s September meeting minutes were released Wednesday, Gold and Silver prices continue to recover from recent losses. The U.S. dollar fell, adding to Gold' s progress. An MKS SA executive said, " The air has been cleared and we know that an early interest rate increase in the U.S. is not as likely as people had expected. A lot of people were expecting the market to break down, so those who have been caught short will continue to buy back in the near term." U.S. stock futures are pointing toward a lower open for Wall Street this morning as investors look to lock in profits after yesterday' s gains. Alpari UK market analyst Craig Erlam said, " What we' re seeing heading into the open is profit-taking from yesterday' s trading where we saw nearly 2 percent gains, and I think that was a bit overdone. We' ve seen massive rallies off those Fed minutes, which weren' t exactly the most dovish thing we' ve ever heard and there was no real change in policy."   METALS MOVE UP AS U.S. DOLLAR FALLS Precious Metals continue to climb as investors digest minutes from the latest Federal Open Market Committee meeting showing the U.S. Central Bank has concerns about the U.S. dollar as well as European inflation and economic turmoil.  Alternative Investments Capital Asset Management LLC managing director of trading Daniel Hwang said, " The main focus for Gold investors now is on the Federal Reserve and U.S. monetary policies.  Gold prices are likely to [be] rangebound in the near term as traders are now betting that the Fed will not be able to raise interest rates until Q2 or Q3 next year." The dollar fell Wednesday to its lowest point in the past two weeks after the release of FOMC meeting minutes. Lou Brien, analyst at DRW Trading in Chicago, said, " Going in (to the Fed minutes), I didn' t think we' d see much of anything but the headlines made them look more cautionary on some of the risks out there than I would have expected." Morning Gold & Silver Market Report -- 10/8/201410/8/2014 8:07:54 AM By: Ryan Schwimmer
GOLD REBOUNDS AS PHYSICAL DEMAND INCREASES Gold and Silver prices continue to  rebound from lows  experienced earlier in the week as stock markets slow down. Saxo Bank head of commodity research Ole Hansen explained, " Precious Metals are finding support from several corners today. Stock markets are once again showing signs of weakness, while U.S. bond yields are moving lower once again. Adding to this is a sense that the [U.S.] dollar now may need a bigger correction before buying resumes, while the return of China to these lower levels have raised expectations about demand." Oil is now following Gold' s movement of late, as crude-oil futures  hit a 2014 low  as reality failed to live up to expectations. Daniel Hynes, senior commodities strategist at ANZ Bank, said, " We haven' t really seen a significant shift in fundamentals. The investor base has become increasingly bearish on the lack of supply disruptions that were expected following Middle Eastern geopolitical events that haven' t eventuated." Closing Gold & Silver Market Report - 10/7/201410/7/2014 4:05:07 PM By: Ted Prince
IMF GROWTH PROJECTIONS BOOST GOLD, WEIGH ON STOCKS Gold is trading higher Tuesday  as investors sought the safe-haven appeal of Precious Metals following a report by the International Monetary Fund that cut its global growth forecasts. " Following yesterday' s rally, traders are in a wait-and-see attitude now after the IMF lowered world growth and issued some market risk warnings," RBC Capital Markets Vice President George Gero said.  With Gold recently dipping below $1,200 per ounce, physical buying demand has increased both domestically and abroad, lending support for the yellow metal this week.  U.S. stocks suffered another poor session as the IMF' s negative growth forecasts were enough to force the  Dow Jones to another day of triple digit losses. " It' s definitely a risk-off day with ugly European data and growth concerns and I think we' re seeing some of that negative sentiment just getting ahead of itself here," Mark Kepner, an equity trader at Themis Trading LLC, said.  Many investors regard U.S. stocks anxiously as the fear of a large-scale market correction continues to pervade the equity rumor mill.  At 5:00 p.m. (ET), the APMEX Precious Metals spot prices were:

Morning Gold & Silver Market Report - 10/7/201410/7/2014 8:11:37 AM By: Paul Stevens
METALS CONTINUE RALLY AHEAD OF FED MINUTES Precious Metal prices are rising through early morning trading. Although the U.S. dollar is rallying toward a four year high, a recent rare dip has kept the currency from making a solid advance and  has taken some pressure off Gold. Even with today' s gains, some analysts are forecasting a rough road ahead for the metals. INTL FCStone analyst Edward Meir said, " We suspect that Gold prices will likely crash through this [$1,180 per ounce] mark, perhaps as soon as this week and eventually push down to $1,150 over the course of October." Although the dollar has been on a recent rally, a pause in the jump  helped Gold have its biggest one-day gain in two months. Many see Wednesday' s release of the recent Federal Open Market Committee meeting minutes and return of Chinese buyers to the physical market as key factors in the direction of Gold. In a note, UBS states, " Over the coming days through to next week, the response of physical markets to a lower Gold price will be crucial and will heavily influence Gold' s next direction from here." Closing Gold & Silver Market Report - 9/6/201410/6/2014 4:28:41 PM By: Ted Prince
GOLD RALLIES AS STOCKS, DOLLAR DIP The Gold price realized its  largest session of gains in two months  as the U.S. dollar retreated more than it has in one year. " The dollar drifting lower is adding support to Gold," Saxo Bank Head of Commodity Strategy Ole Hansen said. " Almost all of Gold' s weakness we' ve seen has been a strong-dollar move." Recent strength of the dollar versus competing world currencies put downward pressure on Precious Metals as the greenback capped off a seventh straight week of gains last Friday.  The strength of the dollar, currently trading near a four-year high, is the central motivator of Precious Metal' s price movement. " Gold has held up relatively well compared to the other Precious Metals," Barclays Plc analysts said in a note.  U.S. stocks are trading slightly lower today as  sell-offs continue and investors await the beginning of corporate earnings season. " We see stocks trading a little nervously today and this week before third-quarter earnings," U.S. Bank Wealth Management Senior Equity Strategist Jim Russell said. " We' re anxious to see how company managements comment on the strong U.S. dollar and overseas revenue."   With the ever-present speculation the Federal Reserve will soon raise lending rates, investors and analysts will be intently eyeing the impact of Fed policy decisions in coming months.  At 5:00 p.m. (ET), the APMEX Precious Metals spot prices were:
