There is one guy, called Conman, who do not vest in this counter keeps talking down about it. Vested one won' t talk down. He might have been burnt too much by this counter before.  If not, why not spending his effort in other more meanigful jobs instead. Sad to see he has been wasting too much his precious time here for too long time already. Advise him to forget and move forward. Leave from this counter and look out for other opportunity if he does not see any potential upzise in CDG.   |

Maybe I should make myself clearer.
When I said PHV or Grab is not a threat to CDG, I mean it is not a threat to CDG as a company, I'm not saying it is not a threat to its taxi numbers.
As I mentioned before in my previous posts, so what when the number of taxis CDG own is dropping? Even if CDG stops owning taxis, it will still survive and survive well.
If taxi is really not a profitable business going forward, so be it. CDG still has public transport, plenty of revenue from that.
One more thing in your point of grab increased fares. Yes, this will motivate taxi drivers to jump to drive for Grab, but have you think of the riders? If Grab is expensive, would the riders still take it? Wouldn't the riders go and take the relatively cheaper taxis and make taxi drivers earn more as more passenger will take the "cheaper" option? This is what happened during surge price, when Grab charges exorbitant prices during raining days or MRT breakdowns.
The equation is not that simple, unfortunately,. Lol.

If you think that PHV is not a threat to CDG Taxis, you will understand you are wrong if you compare CDG's taxi number for the past 8 years, year by year.
3 Ride Hailing ompanies have been given full licence and 1 given temp licence recently. Whether Grab being the biggest of all would give up, it is up to you to argue but time will tell. I predict that on the contrary, as Grab increases fares, more taxi drivers will jump ship to Grab. In fact, although Grab's min fare is still $6 (taxis $3.90), that has become hard to come by in reality. As for whether most tourists take taxis and PHVs or the NEand circle line, I dont want to argue any further. My intention is not to ask people to buy or sell anyway.

I read so many comments on CDG, I would like to offer my 2-cent: 1) The advantage of CDG is, it is a home-grown, home-known company with very strong cash flow and good track record of making profit and paying good dividends to its shareholders. No doubt its recent share price plunges big time (from $2.85 in Jul 2019 to $1.65 now), but if you analyse what happened between Jul last year to now, in this 18 months, I can only say one thing had happened, that's is our notorious COVID-19, if anyone here can tell me besides COVID-19, there was something happened in these past 18 months that causes CDG shares to plunge, I'm willing to hear you out. 2) The weak point of CDG is its business model. It has too many CAPEX, especially its taxis, they become not flexible in deploying, you just compare t with Grab which doesn't own a single vehicle, so it can vary its business volume very fast in times of pandemic or low demand. However, Grab is no angel too. I just can't believe its business model will ever make money as no company in this world makes money from ride-hailing business alone, if you can tell me one company that make money from ride-hailing ALONE, I'm willing to hear you out too. The ONLY way out for Grab is to move away from ride-hailing and go to Fintech and other businesses, in this way it will save CDG the onslaught. Let's analyse CDG share price again. In Dec 2017, its share price plunged to $1.91 due to undercutting fares from Uber and Grab, then in mid 2018, after the sudden merger of Grab and Uber, its share price shot up to $2.5-$2.6 range. Also in the same year in early 2018, CDG acquired many companies overseas. My conclusion is Grab is no longer a threat to CDG, considering public transport is the backbone of CDG, COVID-19 is the real that to CDG.

I have travelled extensively for business and leisure alone and with family for decades. Most of the time, I/we will take the subway because of the convenience even though I have the budget to do otherwise. Straight from the airport to the hotels and around town. Whether across Asia Pacific or in Europe. The last time I checked with my friends, they were doing the same. Maybe I do not have ultra-high networth friends...

@Conman, Siao Liao! everything u commented was ok until u slap your own face by quoting "     i suppose you dont know : most tourists go around in taxis and PHVs, not buses or trains" .   Biggest local taxi operator is CDG leh.     Humble reminder: next time before hitting the " Post" tab, must check for any contardictory term/word/meaning/sentence in your comment(s) first.   lollllll

If i decide to short CDG, u suggest don' t take MRT, then take Grab, Gojek? can i have your bank account so i link to my personal accounta of Grab, Gojek for me to top up my personal accounts everytime my $value depletes? Or drive car & if u encourage/suggest drive car, can u transfer @ least SGD60k to my bank acccount for me to purchase 1 simple car (no need atas in-car stereo system, leather seats or power steering. I just need a normal car)? btw, i ain' t sure that even if i don' t tap in @ NEL/Downtown Line/LRT , my intended SHORT of CDG will definitely bring me profit but certainly i m very sure without any doubt that if i take Grab/Gojek, my $$$ will be depleted & as sure too that if u suggest me travelling by my own car, i will need lots of $$$ which if i utilise the $$$ in my savings, my $$$ will also dwindle.   lollll For the above, i m just joking because i don' t commute by public transport but drives my own car.   lollllllll

Actually, CDG Taxis does make money from taxi-body-advertisment. But you hardly see its taxis carrying any advertisment except its own booking app advertisment. Ownself pay ownself, left pocket to right pocket, shiok!

Even when millions of tourists pour in, CDG dont earn the taxi fares and bus fares. Its own taxi renting model of business and LTA's Bus Contracting Model dictate so.
But it will be good for Grab, who earns from the fares (20:80 split with the drivers).

Well, at the very least, there will be more ridership for the taxi, mrt and bus. This is a positive development for our fellow Singaporeans especially those working in the service industry who may be struggling big time due to the current situation. Not every Singaporean in the current state has the luxury to spend time providing the " alternative views" in different forums irrespective of whether these views actually make sense or only to serve the agenda of the contributors at the expense of others. All genuine alternative views are most welcome but not those self-serving ones. Only you, the cotributors, know... |

CDG will not earn any money from these Taiwanese tourists. It doesnt earn money from the riders. It earns from the Merdeka taxi drivers.
