what a golden chance missed tosay to make some easy money. was out for lunch and issed when it dipped to 3.06 levels. Damn. what an overreaction in the market to the news, overlooking that they adding 440m in new orders and themselves cancelled 180m old order. seriously looking foward to another dip below 3.10 to pick up some more shares. |

Since this customer was not detected by their due diligence process, the co should do a review of all its outstanding orders and see if there are any such customers besides this one that have eluded their process? A confirmation to this effect would be reassuring. Also, nothing mentioned on how they would improve their due diligence to detect such.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding cancels US$180 million order placed by customer trying to circumvent US sanctions
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has cancelled orders placed by an unnamed customer for four oil tankers worth US$180 million.
Orders for these four tankers, to be delivered between 2026 and 2027, were placed by the unnamed buyer, whose shareholder was involved in a scheme to circumvent US sanctions laws and regulations.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding says that despite " earlier extensive due diligence" , it was only " just" told of " critical information" by the buyer.
Citing legal advice, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, via three subsidiaries that received the orders, is of the view that the buyer is in anticipatory repudiatory breach of the contracts.
" Alternatively, the contracts have been frustrated as a result of the supervening illegality associated with the buyer&rsquo s payment obligations.
As such, the contracts have been terminated and all legal rights reserved against this buyer.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding says that no revenue or profit relating to the contracts was recognised up to June 30.
A 10% deposit of the contract value, or some US$18 million, was received at the time the contracts were signed. Construction had commenced for just one vessel, for which an additional 10% instalment, or US$4.48 million, was collected.
Late August, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding announced that it won additional shipbuilding contracts for 22 vessels worth US$920 million, since its order book update for the 1HFY2025 ended June 30.

They just started only on one vessel, so no impact as they can convert the vessel or continue to build it for some interest buyer.

They also announced new orders 4 containers and 4 bulk, amounting to USD0.44 billion at the same time. The question is they discovered this problematic customer which they failed to detect through their due diligence... how many more escaped their due diligence? They did not disclose they have done a review and confirm that there are no others such similar orders - sanction evading, etc

Can' t be because of cancellation of the $180m contract. This will hardly make any dent on its profits. There could be some other impending news or implication of the cancellation.

YSB has cancelled four MR product tanker newbuildings after it was found the buyer&rsquo s sole shareholder was allegedly involved in a scheme to circumvent US sanction. In light of these developments and based on legal advice that they have received, the subsidiaries have determined that the buyer is in anticipatory repudiatory breach of the contracts. As a result, the contracts have been cancelled and Yangzijiang said that its subsidiaries reserved all legal rights against the owner. The shipbuilder had so far received a 10% deposit equal to $18 million for the four vessels. It had received a further 10% or $4.48 million installment on one tanker which had started construction. |
