I do agree with you wk1991. At the same time,  just an interesting  thought about this whole rumor. The Japs are generally very careful with their money/ investments.  Because Ezra' s  value had dropped so much, picking up 50% of EMAS AMC  for $150m is a  good deal financially ... not to mention  how this will  complement Chiyoda' s main O& G business.  This deal could potentially also have something to do with the $1.5b Hasbah project. The Hasbah tender was started sometime end of last year, and that was the same time Chiyoda came into the picture. Perhaps it is one of those things where the Japs say " OK, we agree to buy 50% of your business provided we are given assurance that we will have good chances of winning Hasbah ... so for now, we will make the offer but will not commit to the offer until we have a good feeling that Hasbah is in the bag." That is probably why the EMAS-Chiyoda thing officially went through on the 1st April, which is surprisingly close to the rumored award date. Not saying this is true ... it' s just a theory. The timing all seems to coincide pretty well.

With Emas operational expertise, and Chiyoda's strengths in O&G and LNG sectors.
Why would it be weird? 😊

It is not easy for Ezra-Chiyoda to win deals. How can Japanese and Lionel cooperate? I find this a strange combination. |

Yes, that  is certainly  plausible as well ... though there hasn' t been any rumors about Saipem lately. No idea when the announcement will be, or if there will even be anything to announce, hahah. But  let' s say if the rumors about them signing the Letter of Award (LOA)  last week is true, it will  generally take 1-2 weeks to  sign the final contract, then followed by media release.

Saipem is one of the largest EPC, but had only won 1 of the smaller jobs? would' nt they be in better position?  just some thoughts..

For large contracts like these, Clients usually will try to spread out the work among a few contractors, just to  mitigate their risk of a single contractor failing. So in this case  it would be in EMAS' s favour to clinch the Hasbah contract deal.

Is they never win the first few contracts does it make them more or less likely to win the hasbah project?

Much clarity in this report which mentioned both. Market could be disappointed with Ezra not being awarded with any for the first $1b worth of contracts.

We' re getting a bit mixed up here. There are 2 parts of the deal, consisting of 4 small contracts (worth between $150m to $700m) .... and 1 large contract (worth $1.5b). It was rumored that EMAS + LT consortium did not win any of the smaller contracts, but they  were said to have clinched the $1.5b large contract. This  contract is  the one quoted in the article previously: The four groups are also said to be in the fray for contracts on Aramco' s plans of a larger project to expand the production capacity of its Hasbah sour gas field. The contract is reported to be worth over $1.5 billion.

The contract will be given to 3 LTA Partners. One of them is UAE based, 2 US based, 1 Italy based and 1 form by consortium consisting of India based, Singapore based with 50% Japan equity ownership.
Middle easy contracts are highly politically motivated. Given that the UAE based company was added last minutes, they are probably already gotten the deal. Perhaps the latest twist to the ongoing case against Saudi for the 9/11 terrorist attack may have shed some negativity on US-Saudi relationship, maybe one but not 2 will get it. That left the Italy firm against the India/Singapore consortium. Japan being a big consumer of crude and supplier of high tech stuff to Middle East do have some influence. Chiyoda is a major player in Middle East and pursuing some deals in Iran. Middle East recently ramped up their marketing effort to secure more market share in Europe and Italy may have some deals with Iran too. So, it is hard to say if Italy or Ezra AMC consortium will be the 3rd LTA partner. |
