Where do the broking houses get their revenue besides earning that little commssion from their retailers buying/selling 5 lots of CDG shares after 3 years of waiting? When you see the house people walking in and out of your bosses' office you know something is going to happen.
I am only guessing : this is why almost every analyst report that we see is asking you to long. The big boys need them to ask you to buy. Everybody has to work in the way his/her boss want if he/she still wants the job. Except for IceBerg, who has its own modus oprandi, who dares to bite the fingers of any big listed company? I expect Grab's capitalisation to be bigger than Sing Tel when it is listed. Everybody knows that it will list. The only question is when. |

More on this subject of masses of customers:
Taxi companies earn from drivers' rental payment while taxi drivers earn the fares. The number of taxis is a result of amount of rental charged by the companies, the number of passengers available for the drivers to pick and how many uncles are willing to bear the stigma of being taxi drivers to drive taxis. And an equilibruim is always maintained over the up and down time. Equilibruim means that the loss of customers to Grab does not affect the drivers as much as it affect the companies (because many have returned their taxis to either drive PHV or retire or change lines) Drivers still earn the same or about the same little income by driving 12 hours a day (at least) every day. But once rental is raised from the current level ($92), the number of taxis will shrink more. Hence all is no good for CDG. I will explain in my next post why we dont see any 'analyst' talking about PHV's challenge at CDG's taxis, which is a fact even the most ignorant uncles and aunties are fully aware of. |

Wont ,because that is only for fun, ie have a paromanic view of the city. Got money and can take risk can try. Taxis serve the masses of the most ordinary people and not the very rich who were never their customers anyway.

The dream of any 'founder' is public listing. $1 put in can become $1000 after IPO. Then after that, get a fund manager to punt the stock up and down to squeeze the uncles. Get some 'analysts' to share tips with them to make them cough out their CPF money to buy.
Dont be one of those uncles.

Of course. Why would you think these 'analysts' want to burn midnight oil cracking their heads to tell you so many good things?
They just want to make you buy.

UOBKH: ComfortDelGro Corp (CD SP) Trading Buy Range: S$1.67-1.68 Last price: S$1.66 Target price: S$1.80 Protective stop: S$1.60 Price has retraced to the middle Bollinger band, which is also the 20-day EMA support and the Fibonacci 38% correction point. The 20-day EMA is heading upwards, suggesting potential upside ahead. The MACD is still strong and bullish at the moment. These could increase chances of the stock price rebounding from this support to move higher. We see increasing odds of stock price testing S$1.80. Stops could be placed at S$1.60. Approximate timeframe on average: 1 week (initiate this trade idea if the stock hits the entry price range within three trading days) Our institutional research has a fundamental BUY and target price of S$1.78. |

I know you dont like Grab, neither do I. But can you get rid of it now that it is beginning to invade into every home except those without a phone line? When the services of the two giants are bundled together no one can escape from it. Even the 3 big banks and the other 2 telcos and the Ah Longs will kena.
The only choice you are left with is qhether to support the share price of a iron-rice-bowl company surviving on tax-payers' money ànd Merdeka uncles' rental contributions in their final stage of working life. Your money you decide.

you speak as though Grab is the only company awarded with the digital bank license, and there are no other competitors as well as traditional banks with digital banking facilities around how much money is Grab-Singtel going to burn this time to monopolize the market? Grab only gets 60% of the pie? u sure it' s going to huat?

Thanks for the nice words and good discussion.
Cash : I dont know where its cash came from but I suspect it came from taxis because of its monopoly of the trade in the past many years. Taxi is a very lucrative business even until now with only 8,000 taxis. Even the smallest taxi company is still making money. And one invests in CDG only if one believes in taxis. Otherwise one can just buy SBS or Vicom. Overseas : How is it doing overseas nobody knows. I believe taxis in China, UK, Indonesia or Australia have either died or are dying because of attacks by Uber, Grab, GoJek, Didi, etc everywhere. The basis of my arguement is that : Singapore is the best place for taxi business and yet the company is saying here that it is running down its fleet, can taxi business elsewhere be good? Vicom and Driving School : With the freeze of human and car population, one can buy Vicom if one still thinks that it is a growth stock. Grab Losing Money : This will not affect Grab's stay in Singapore and its ride business. Uber has been losing money and still is, but its public listing has earned the investors a thousand times of their investors. Its founder Travis Kalanic only put in US$2m to start up Uber but he is now a multi-millionaire even after he was fired by his own board and later left the company. Grab will be the same, and its investors will huat more now that it has got a bank licence.

Hi, with due respect, you points are valid but please look at the following points too.
1) CDG has strong cashflow. It has public transport and VICOM as its backbone, so what if CDG doesn't operate taxi 5 or even 2 years from now, what will it become? I would believe this, CDG will be running buses and trains in Singapore, plus VICOM, plus its overseas businesses, it still can survive well and pays 4 to 5% dividends like the pre-COVID days. Moreover, when we talk about CDG not operating taxis, we are talking as a worst case scenario.
2) Grab has not made a SINGLE CENT of profit since 2013, when it entered Singapore market. What makes you think it can make profit in the future? Look at Uber, it is still making losses even after listing in USA stock exchange. Don't you smell rat? Doesn't this tell you that ride hailing business is a non profitable and unsustainable business? Grab has to move AWAY quickly from its ride hailing business, then this will benefit CDG taxi business, albeit a small one.
My 2-cent.
DYODD.
