The source of this evil is the exorbitant rental charged by Zom Bee. Its rental is calculated based on capital recovery in less than 2 years.
High rental means two or more drivers have to share out the costs if they dont want to drive for at least 15 hours everyday and say good bye in the taxis before the due date. So even the roof-top taxi sign is programmed to display the 'Change Shift' sign. So when ot is legitimate, taxi drivers make full use of the change'shift sign to chut pattern. When the riders have no choice, they cant do anything but just to grumble. Now that there are 72,6000 PHVs standing-by everywhere to take the jobs, CDG gets the back-blast from its own exorbitant rental. Riders saw the alternative and run. Drivers lost customers also run. Taxi numbers dropped, shares dropped. How?

Yes.  But that no longer affect me as I time myself to avoid those hours. And the taxi stands that I need to take cabs have lots of cabs such as Lucky Plaza, Taka, MBS, Gardens by the Bay. Most of the time, I take MRT during off-peak hours. Fast, efficient, safe, cheap and comfortable.  ![]()

I' m one of those who have never ever booked any PHV and never used any app to get any ride. I only queue up for taxi in taxi stands.  Even if I need to book a taxi, I call by phone.

I have no apps in my HP. But I can help to analyse if you can quote me real examples like that of Seba. And you need not agree with my analysis.
There is no need to get angry with me since you ate not vested.

You want me to quote example?    I am not working for Comfort so dun ask me to show you examples.  Esp when the apps are only a finger away. Why dun you check for youself, you have all ther 4 apps right?  See how Comfort fixed rates fare comparing to the other app during different period of the week.    No point talking lots of theory here if you dun see the numbers for yourself.

You have any example?
If Seba's example is representative of all, it shows the so-called fixed-fare app is only for show and of no help. IT is technical and app development is no more a big deal, but the goal has to be set right and the psychological game played correctly. The generations growing up now only believe in living their life with a HP in their hands. Only the older folks are willing to walk for 15 mins or take a shutter bus to the nearest stands to take a taxi. And only the Medeka Generation is now driving taxis. We as investors of CDG Taxis stock can only hope that these people will live forever.

Not sure if you all know this or not. If you go to Comfort app, you can choose Fixed rates fares also, just like PHV. Now, the next questions will be, whether it is cheaper than PHV or Comfort meter fare?    Well answer is its depends.  From my experience, normally, during non peak hours, Comfort fixed rates fares is cheaper than Grab, Tada, GoJek or Comfort meter fare.  But I must say that I normally take from my home located in the RCR.    For CCR or ORC, then I can' t comment. Dun believe, try the Comfort app and compare to the PHVs options, choose the cheapest option. FYI I do not own any Comfort shares at this point in time.      |

u know why taxis queuing at taxi stands, because Grab cars cannot queue there 😆 also when taxi business is too good, drivers become tired and they need to rest at the queues for free

I said that in my post : Critical Mass. Even before Uber / Grab came in, if you try to book CDG in a raining morning, you need 3 phones calling at the same time and yet you cant get a CDG taxi. Uber / Grab came in and solved this problem instantly. Thereafter, as CDG taxis numbers dropped from 18,000+ to 8,000+, it is even more difficult to book one at busy time. This gives Grab more opportunity to capture ground. And when riders get addi ted to booking Grab, they book Grab infront of a long queue of taxis. This caused taxis to shrink even smaller.
Because it was night time and there are more taxis in a HDB area (because they brought pax back from town and became available, you got one cheap cheap. But Grab was surging because many others were booking Grab because they have become Grab's loyal customers. If that taxi didnt get your job, it will have to run back to town to queue at the taxi stands. If you dont believe me, go and o serve the CTE at night. You will find plenty of vacant taxis speeding down from the north and enter Orchard. The pre-requisite of booking business is critical mass of riders and drivers. CDG has lost both. You can go to any taxi stand and count the number of CDG taxis queuing and you will understand.

Warped logic.
If everybody behaves like me last night and chose CDG because it was cheaper, and the taxi came in 4 min, how is the Grab driver going to earn that $33?

Being cheap is good for the riders but not for the drivers.
In your example, CDG app asked for $35 but that is for show only because the same company also offered $24 to $30 for the same car same driver. As a result its app will eventually be marginalised and for show only. Grab's price was $33 but if you chose the cheapest meter fate + booking fee, there are many other bookings for the driver because the surging indicates high demand but low supply. This is AI controlled hence no bull shitting. If that taxi wasnt around and no other CDG taxi was around because CDG has lost the most important critical mass to fulfill the demands, you woould have no choice but to pay $33 for a Grab car ride. Grab is alteady in tje advanced stage of capturing the drivers and riders. From the beginning time when Uber offered dirt cheap fares (like $5 from anywhere to anywhere in Singapore) buy burning money big time to compensate the drivers to the present time when Grab fares gets higher and higher, it is all in accordance with its plan. This explains why Grab drivers earn more than taxi drivers. The higher Grab fares go, the more taxi drivets will jump ship. New drivers will joinGrab and not tacis. CDG will lose even more critical mass. This explains why almost all the taxi drivers are Merdeka Generation, all with plans to retire soon.

Exactly right, i used the CDG app and realised that during peak timings the CDG meter option is often lower than the surge pricings of Grab or CDG. I choose the meter option, and paid a price lesser than the surge pricings. That happend a few times already.  However during normal timings, I also realised that CDG pricing is slightly higher by 20cents to 1 dollar as compared to grab, but who cares, I enjoy taking the blue/yellow comfort cab, and everytime I had a great time chatting with our friendly CDG drivers.

Useful sharing, Seba Bro.
The ride hail technology is useful to centralize demand such that taxi deployment can be more efficient. Less hunting around on empty cab. We can thank Grab for introducing this habit to Singaporeans and the region. But CDG and other taxi companies will benefit from it in profitable ways going forward.

Besides being not viable, ride hailing business model is also subjected to a big flaw, a haven for cheats. Let me ask you, if you are a Grab driver, if you ferry passengers everyday from point A to point B, wouldn't you just make special arrangement with the passengers for the next few days, weeks or even months? You effectively avoid the 20% commission charged by Grab. You give 10% discount to the passengers and they will love you. Another way hich is very prevalent now is to form WhatsApp chat groups to solicit for business. Who says Anthony Tan is smart, I think he is stupid to start this business model. Lol. CDG taxi or PHV business model has no such problems at all. Don't tell me none of you here experience (special offer) from Grab drivers before? | ||||

Well said and fully agree with you. Tbis is the point I'm driving at from the very beginning.
Ride-hailing business model is and will be a failure, it has never been shown to be viable in any country in this world. It is not Amazon, Facebook or Google, where there is only one type of customers.
Serving customers with conflicting interests will never work in real life.
Just share my own experience last night here. I opened 2 apps, Grab and CDG, wanted to go to East Coast Park from Pandan Gradens. Grab was on surge, $33. CDG Comfortride : $35, CDG booking + meter : (estimated $24 to $30). I booked CDG meter. I paid $27.40 eventually. Had a great chat with the taxi driver, it verified what I have learnt from other Grab and taxi drivers.
