Singtel was $3.39 two years ago.  So it is still relatively underpriced.  We are fortunate to be able to accumulate it at $2+

Holding since 2020. There are a lot of people esp the younger generation saying telco and sgx is dead. Glad I believed in our govt and bought more during the dip. Now handsomely rewarded with dividends and growth.

Singtel to build data centres in Thailand with Gulf Energy, AIS
SINGTEL has signed a joint development agreement with energy supplier Gulf Energy and mobile phone operator Advanced Info Services (AIS) to build and operate data centres in Thailand.

This follows a memorandum of understanding inked between Singtel Singtel: Z74 +2.88% and Gulf Energy on Sep 30, 2021.

In a bourse filing on Thursday (Feb 3), the telecommunications company said the collaboration comes as part of its strategy to develop a regional data centre business with partners and capitalise on the strong growth potential of digital infrastructure.

Its inclusion of AIS in its partnership with Gulf Energy is in view of the mobile phone operator' s large local sales force with deep relationships with Thai enterprise as well as local data centre operations know-how, said Singtel, which will in turn be able to provide connectivity solutions for the data centre business.

Highlighting Gulf Energy and AIS as leaders in the energy and telecommunications industries respectively, Singtel believes they will be able to strengthen and accelerate plans for the data centres and capture both local enterprises and hyperscaler customers.

The 3 companies will " work closely and expeditiously" to establish their joint venture company, it added.

Site selection has already commenced and the data centres will begin developments in the coming months, according to Singtel.

https://www.channelasia.tech/article/695001/singtel-sharpens-5g-play-first-microsoft-azure-singapore/   Singtel sharpens 5G play in first for Microsoft Azure in SingaporeOffering will be publicly available in the second half of 2022 in Singapore. Singtel has unveiled plans to launch the first Microsoft Azure Edge Zones in Asia, integrated with the provider&rsquo s 5G network to deliver multi-access edge compute (MEC) across the enterprise. Built to combine the &ldquo speed, hyper-connectivity and high bandwidth&rdquo of Singtel&rsquo s 5G network with Microsoft Azure services, the offering is designed to enable developers to deploy and manage applications that require high throughput and low latency. This is in addition to enhancing business capabilities in areas such as metaverse-based real-time simulations, alongside live video analytics in a multi-tenant environment. With customers able to leverage existing Azure subscriptions, the solution will be publicly available in the second half of 2022 for Azure customers in Singapore via the Azure portal. &ldquo This collaboration is a key milestone for edge computing in Asia,&rdquo said Bill Chang, CEO of Group Enterprise at Singtel. &ldquo We&rsquo re always looking for ways to support enterprises in leveraging the potential of 5G for digital transformation to drive innovation for the benefit of consumers, business users and entire industries.&rdquo According to Chang -- inducted into the Channel Asia Hall of Fame in 2020 -- organisations will be able to &ldquo rapidly develop, test and deploy&rdquo 5G applications such as autonomous guided vehicles, drones, robotics and virtual, augmented or mixed reality, at the edge of Singtel&rsquo s 5G network. In Singapore, Government agencies and enterprise customers continue to build business applications and operations on Microsoft Azure, allowing opportunity to now leverage 5G and MEC through Singtel. &ldquo This solution enables enterprises to streamline the integration of 5G and MEC into business operations, facilitate the development of new solutions, and scale and transform their business,&rdquo he added. As well as running low-latency applications at the edge using Singtel&rsquo s 5G network, the solution is also targeting key sectors such as public safety, urban planning, healthcare, banking, civil service, transportation and logistics. &ldquo With Azure for Operators, Singtel empowers its customers to unlock business value at the network edge,&rdquo added Dr. Yousef Khalidi, corporate vice president of Azure for Operators at Microsoft. &ldquo The integration of Azure compute services with Singtel&rsquo s 5G network will enable enterprises and developers to provide low-latency applications across industries such as public sector and healthcare.&rdquo |

Singtel, Microsoft make Asia MEC move![]() Singtel upped its enterprise play, teaming with Microsoft to deliver what  the operator claimed is the first multi-access edge compute (MEC) product for businesses in Asia. The operator plans to deploy Microsoft Azure Edge Zones on its 5G network, a combination Singtel stated would enable rapid deployment of services spanning real-time simulations and live video analytics in a multi-tenant setting. Singtel cited public sector services as one potential beneficiary of the Microsoft tie-up, adding MEC would deliver a bump in security and performance, &ldquo enabling new intelligent edge scenarios&rdquo . It also noted potential in public safety, urban planning, healthcare, banking, transport and logistics. Bill Chang, CEO of Group Enterprise at Singtel, branded the collaboration a &ldquo milestone for edge computing in Asia&rdquo , predicting benefits for companies&rsquo digital transformation efforts. The service will be publicly available in H2 for Azure customers in Singapore using their current subscriptions. The operator highlighted a &ldquo cloud consumption model&rdquo , noting enterprises would only be billed for the &ldquo amount of compute and storage&rdquo used along with the duration. The operator  launched standalone 5G in 2021  and is required to cover half of the city state by the end of this year.

Expect Singtel to bid for Thailand digital bank license, likely in partnership with AIS ---------------   Thailand Seeks to Join the Digital Bank Race in Southeast Asia![]() The  Bank of Thailand (BOT)  is looking to issue guidelines for virtual banks in the country in a bid to play catch-up with neighboring countries Malaysia and Singapore who have already set their plans in motion. In line with this, BOT is seeking feedback from the public for its plans for  &ldquo Repositioning Thailand&rsquo s Financial Sector for a Sustainable Digital Economy&rdquo   by 28 February 2022. The regulator is seeking to promote healthy competition between new fintech players and incumbent banks to drive innovation and better financial services. BOT said that it will extend the &ldquo business scope and increase flexibility&rdquo of the incumbent banks to ease this. It will also be working on building an open infrastructure to allow more players to access key infrastructure at fair and reasonable costs. The key infrastructure includes the payment system, the retail central bank digital currency and the credit guarantee mechanism suitable for diverse funding needs. Additionally, BOT will also be focused on open data to allow consumers to conveniently share their information under the open banking initiatives. The regulator also indicated that it will be looking to manage the transition towards sustainability in a two-pronged approach by steering the financial sector to incorporate environmental risk assessment into their business operations as well as supporting the households to make a smooth transition through promoting financial and digital literacy. Bank Negara Malaysia will soon  issue  licenses to five of the 29 applications that it had received last year. Meanwhile, the Monetary Authority of Singapore  gave out  full digital bank licenses to the Grab-Singtel consortium and SEA Group while awarding digital wholesale bank licenses to Ant Group and a consortium comprising of Greenland Financial Holdings, Linklogis Hong Kong, and Beijing Co-operative Equity Investment Fund Management. |

This is mini broad market rally. Not just SingTel alone. Panda believe this is the 'catch up' on 3 days strong rally at Ang Moh side. Market would likely return to "normal" after today |
