I estimated the compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of the investment in Cosco Shipyard Group by SembCorp Marine is around 10.5% over a period of 12 years. This is not too bad an investment made by SembCorp Marine. If the shipping industry and oil and gas industry had not experienced downturn, I think SembCorp Marine may not be in a hurry to let go of this investment. The main reason I think apart from realising the profits from this investment is more importantly to improve liquidity fulfilling working capital needs. Perhaps cash is currently tightening for SembCorp Marine so that this is a necessary move to raise cash for working capital needs. |

This is very positive ....and a gain of $48M over its carrying cost of 180M ( wow SM cost is real low) Finally they have manage to unload this ....and provide much needed working capital. Positive for Semb Corp too.

I think this is a +ve move for SembM. Likely to remove some loss-making contributions from future results. For me, it' s time to pay more serious attention to the stock. DYODD though.

I think Sembcorp will not delist Sembmarine at this juncture. There are some business considerations about the disadvantages when competing an oversea project with foreign listed companies if you are not publiclly listed. | ||||
