The lender has demonstrated resilience over the last two years even as economies buckled under the weight of the pandemic. DBS reported a record net profit of S$6.8 billion for its fiscal year 2021 (FY2021) as it deftly navigated the challenges by growing its loan book and registering higher fee income. At the same time, the group increased its quarterly dividend to S$0.36 per share, up from S$0.33 in the previous quarter. Annualised dividend now stands at S$1.44, giving its shares a forward dividend yield of around 4%. Aside from this healthy yield, the bank is also targeting to continue its growth momentum. The cooling measures in Dec would mean that mortgage loans would drop. 2) Allowances: It might have to increase its general allowance for HK and China operations due to the Covid lockdowns as well as the widespread slowdown in China. High fuel costs could dent economic growth in India 3) Its trading income may or may not exceed previous quarter. In fact, it is likely to see a y-o-y drop because Q1 2021 was more predictable (a bull rally due to the discovery of a vaccine) but this year' s bear market caught many people by surprise. 4) Wealth management may or may not increase because last year' s wealth management income was probably an anomaly (The wealthy were probably bullish because a vaccine would mean great economic optimism). Even the rich would be scared of this year' s bear market. DBS' net profit was $2 billion in Q1, 2021. So it is likely that we will see a big drop y-o-y. Q-o-Q, DBS might or might not see an increase but likely it would be $1.5 billion or below. However, if DBS' profit is normalised at around $1.5 billion, then it will revert back to its pre-pandemic eanings and price range, which means that it should not exceed $32.
