why i said Shipping is a very RISKY BUSINESS : cos it is almost like a ' lose-lose' situation, allow me to elaborate when economy is down, trade is down, not enough cargo to carry , so even if oil prices low ~ so what when economy is up, trade up, lots of cargo, but oil prices up ~ eats into the profits.  AND nowadays, it is like 1 way traffic   Say China -> US lots of laden, US -> China Mostly Empty Repo Airlines still better than Shippping thus.

Telcos? no really. For developed market, they are suffering, only the lead doing well, the runners are suffering if you do your own proper research for telcos companies in global market.

Sad to say, SHIPPING is a very very Risky Business. That' s why some Shipping Tycoons in Singapore shift focus and go into hotels and properties and smart move is : sell vessels at high prices and lease them at low prices. very good foresight. if not wrong, NOL IPO was $ 1 ? Now is $0.78 ? SAD. If Same $ is put into say Singapore property & hotels counters years ago, returns would be different. |

Copy Cat? http://www.alphaliner.com/top100/ refer to the orderbook and no of ship, which shipping lines are not copy cat? all have ordered 10,000 to 18,000TEU container vessels. NOL cannot claim they are one of the biggest shipping line companies because they are going to be no.16 soon, just 1 seat ahead SIngapore PIL. Time for these 2 to merge and back to top 10!!! |

Since the 3Q numbers didn' t excel as we had hoped, we find the unchanged full year guidance of USD 4.5 billion as fair. That said, the Company didn' t mention lower oil prices and the impact on its businesses &ndash a key issue we believe will be in focus at the presentation. In our view Maersk Line should benefit from lower bunker prices although Maersk Oil will see lower revenues." What a sarcastic again!!!! Curious what comment will be given to NOL by Platou? The World&rsquo s largest boxship owner is now predicting a profit of over $2bn for 2014, ahead of the more than $1.5bn previously stated, parent AP Moller-Maersk announced alongside its own stronger than anticipated third quarter bottom line. Danish conglomerate AP Moller reported a gain of $1.50bn in the third quarter, beating the $1.11bn at the same stage in 2013 and the $1.25bn consensus. Group chief executive Nils Andersen said the performance was &ldquo very, very good&rdquo driven by operational improvements in Maersk Line, Maersk Oil and AP Moller Terminals. &ldquo We are well positioned to take advantage of opportunities materialising in a volatile macroeconomic environment, and despite some caution in relation to the market outlook for the coming quarters, we maintain our outlook for the Group result to be around $4.5bn for the year,&rdquo he said. Maersk Line contributed a profit of $685m in the quarter, up from $554m in the same stretch of 2013. &ldquo The improvement was driven by lower unit costs through the continuous focus on operational cost savings mainly from vessel network efficiencies supported by an increase in the average freight rate,&rdquo Maersk said. Maersk Line has booked a profit of $1.67bn in the first nine months of 2014. Andersen notes the new 2M vessel sharing agreement will provide benefits for customers, thanks to a stronger network with more sailings, and cost advantages for Maersk Line via lower bunker prices when the initiative begins in January. " This is really a solution where everybody wins," Andersen said. APM Shipping Services logged a profit of $119m, a marginal rise from the $114m of a year ago. A much stronger profit from Maersk Tankers, up from $18m to $84m year on year, and Maersk Supply, overcame a smaller gain from Svitzer and losses at Damco. |

I agree with you that NOL really has serious problems but I think that the current price is a reasonable if not a good entry price. Nevertheless, I am aware that it is going to be a bumpy ride. I enjoy the process. |

What I said was meant for Lucky to hear? I don' t think it is appropriate to say this in an OPEN forum. If it is meant for Lucky to hear thinking that he knows little about economics, you may want to consider PM. If this had come from metal trader, I would not be surprised at all. However, given that it has come from you, frankly speaking, I am a bit disappointed. When you post something wrong in an OPEN forum, you cannot defend it with this kind of excuse.
