U have to decide . It also depends on long or short term All I know is that book value is 8.14 and PE is below 10. IF China returns and the WH expand with additional insurance arm of GE OCBC is one of our strongest local bank in the region. Certainly a lot of big caps are eyeing it .

If this is true ...then all shares should go down. There is no recesssion here ....potential of a technical recession might be ...but hv to see the next 2 Q numbers. OCBC has a big bz in CHINA and the region too . In fact Spore side is profitable with Q2 record profit for all of OCBC. A good head start for the first half.

singapore economy is ot good and is going into recession. OCBC likewise will go down too .Price will only improve after interest rate goes up. |

If PRC tomorrow still lower their yuan, then bank shares will sure be the first to get hit as all asia currency go down and US and european country currency go up. The impact for bank investment is extremely high! To us, at most don' t travel! To them, don' t know how many zero lost in currency difference. If you work in MMC, you will experience it as well.

Educated in Canada, Lee Seng Wee joined the family&rsquo s rubber business before moving to the bank. He became OCBC&rsquo s chairman in 1995, a position he occupied for eight years. While at the helm, Lee orchestrated a $2.4 billion takeover of Keppel Capital Holdings in 2001, then Singapore&rsquo s sixth largest bank. Last year, OCBC was in the news for its $4.5 billion purchase of Hong Kong&rsquo s Wing Hang Bank . In its statement, the bank said that Lee had played a role in that acquisition as well as others. |

Tomorrow might rebound RMB target to slide to 6.5 by the market demand, today slide till 6.44 (another 1.8% drop from yesterday), yet it rebound 6.38 now (lost about 1%) Once RMB stabilize, people can see how big the damage or not damage at all, things will be back on track again. Very tempted to buy today but waited, tomorrow might slide slightly before edging up (provided no more funny lousy news tonight)

The concern was really on the Yuan devaluation. Dbs has a largest part with OCBC and least UOB. I really think the concern on Yuan is over done. Spore dollar drop too and SIBOR up so interest income is going up/ anyway , if you have holding power, I dont think OCBC will under perform. Its just timing.

I have never come across such a big gap down for bank stocks. Wonder if OCBC can really climb back up again to fill the hole. |
