ST Engineering announces fourth data centre, adds 7.5 MW of capacity to portfolio

ST Engineering on Tuesday (Jun 25) broke ground for a new data centre, which will add about 7.5 MW to its capacity.

The new facility in Jurong will bring the total capacity of the technology, defence and engineering group to over 30MW from across four data centres. The new capacity is part of the recently announced 300MW allocation to data centres in May.

Situated in a gazetted area where access is restricted, the centre prioritises physical security, said Vincent Chong, the group&rsquo s chief executive officer, in his opening address.

When completed, the data centre will be a Tier 3 facility, equipped with backup power and cooling in case of disruptions, so that sensitive information and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads are protected.

&ldquo It will uniquely cater for highly secure AI workloads and critical information infrastructure systems,&rdquo said Chong.

Low Jin Phang, president of digital systems in ST Engineering, said the group would continue to pursue opportunities in the critical-infrastructure space, and seek to set itself apart with its physical and cybersecurity edge it will also aim to balance business growth with market demands and opportunities.

Capital expenditure on the data centre will be S$120 million over the next three years. The centre will meet the ISO 27001 international standard for cybersecurity, and the ISO 42001 standard for responsible AI development. The power usage effectiveness (PUE) will be 1.25, below the Green Mark Platinum threshold of 1.3 set by the Building and Construction Authority and the Infocomm Media Development Authority.

About 2,400 sq m of solar panels will be installed on the east-facing facade of the building to partially power the data centre. The operating temperature in it will be kept at 26 deg C ST Engineering&rsquo s proprietary evaporative cooling solution, the Airbitat DC Cooling system, will reduce the amount of energy needed for cooling.

Plans have been made to improve the cooling capacity with solutions such as immersion cooling, in which servers are immersed in a coolant, and closed-circuit water-cooling systems.

&ldquo As technology evolves, we will work with partners and customers to adopt renewable energy to save power,&rdquo said Low.

ST Engineering bags over S$100 million of ammunition orders from Europe
The group&rsquo s order book stood at S$27.7 billion as at end-March

SINGAPORE Technologies Engineering : S63 -1.49% (ST Engineering) has won ammunition orders of more than S$100 million in total value from Europe between April and early June, the group announced on Monday (Jun 17).

Specifically, the orders are for 155 millimetre (mm) ammunition and 40mm ammunition &ndash both of Nato-standard &ndash ST Engineering said, without giving a breakdown of the contract values for these two types of ammunition or naming the new customers.

Nato or North Atlantic Treaty Organization, an intergovernmental military alliance with 32 members, is reportedly set to take over from the United States the coordination of arms deliveries to Ukraine, which is at war with Russia.

ST Engineering&rsquo s 155mm ammunition system has an extended-range high-explosive projectile and modular charge system designed for 155mm gun howitzers with 39 and 52-calibre barrels.

As for the 40mm ammunition, it has more than 58 variants and the engineering ability to customise the munition to meet unique operational needs of users from over 40 countries.

ST Engineering&rsquo s Defence and Public Security segment, which the latest order-winning Land Systems is a part of, bagged about S$1.7 billion worth of orders in the first quarter of FY2024 to March. The group&rsquo s order book stood at S$27.7 billion as at end-March.

The share does not really reflect its performance and compared to other company, ST Engineering is doing pretty well with consistent yearly performance and very strong order book to-date. Hopefully the share starts to reflect its actual worth going forward

ST Engineering is a solid company with yearly profits getting higher and higher as its order book of $27.4 billion. Coupled with this strong order book, the quarterly dividend of 4 cents is very attractive and the yearly yield is 3.91%. Quite a good dividend giving out year after year and the prospects look good in the longer term | ||||

I checked 121400 shares worth about SGD470k were indeed awarded, but not sure if for each director.
Song su min increased holdings by 12700 shares, equivalent 51K. That is more reasonable sum.
