I think otherwise. Now its the time to conserve cash. Especially if the company is badly hit. Its time for cash rich companies like Apple to do bargain hunting. Not a company like genting which is closed and burning money everyday

This is as big the news as it gets for GENS - With LV Sands gone and out of the running - the field is now open for GENS to claim Yokohama and maybe Tokyo.  LV Sands was the only real competitor to GENS given its track record in MBS and being the other SG role model for Japan to follow. Haha, the Lims must be smiling ear to ear now. Las Vegas Sands drops $10bn Japan casino pursuit

LAS VEGAS: Las Vegas Sands Corp posted a loss for the first quarter compared to a year-ago profit, as the coronavirus pandemic slammed gaming revenue at the casino operator. The gambling industry, which thrives on air travel and large groups of people in close proximity, is one of the hardest hit as the world goes into lockdown in its battle against the pandemic. " The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our business has been unprecedented, and I have never seen anything like it in my over seventy years in business," Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson said in a statement. Revenue from the company' s main casino business plunged 55.8 per cent  to US$1.18 billion, with declines across all of its businesses, including rooms as well as food and beverage. In March, gambling revenue fell 80 per cent  in Macau, the world' s biggest casino hub that accounts for more than 60 per cent  of the company' s revenue. The S& P 500 casinos and gaming index has lost 49 per cent  this year, compared to the 13.4 per cent  dip in the S& P 500. Net loss attributable to Las Vegas Sands was US$1 million in the quarter ended Mar  31, compared to a profit of US$582 million a year ago. Net revenue plunged 51.1 per cent  to US$1.78 billion.   |

LVS drops Japan resort aim, plans unreachable: Adelson  May 13, 2020    Newsdesk    Japan,  Latest News,  Top of the deck      United States-based casino firm Las Vegas Sands Corp (LVS) said in a press release onTuesday that it would &ldquo discontinue its pursuit of integrated resort (IR) development in Japan&rdquo . That was a reference to Japan&rsquo s casino liberalisation process. Las Vegas Sands, the parent of Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd, and which also operates Marina Bay Sands casino resort in Singapore, had said in August last year it  would  focus on Tokyo and Yokohama  in its effort to be allowed to build a casino resort in Japan. In the update on the firm&rsquo s position, the group&rsquo s chairman and chief executive Sheldon Adelson (pictured) said: &ldquo While my positive feelings for Japan are undiminished, and I believe the country would benefit from the business and leisure tourism generated by an integrated resort, the framework around the development of an IR has made our goals there unreachable.&rdquo A number of industry commentators has said that the range and amount of rules and regulations likely to be attached to a Japan casino resort &ndash three will be permitted in a first phase of market liberalisation &ndash might risk  diminishing the attractiveness  of such a scheme to international investors. &ldquo We are grateful for all of the friendships we have formed and the strong relationships we have in Japan, but it is time for our company to focus our energy on other opportunities,&rdquo Mr Adelson was further quoted as saying in Tuesday&rsquo s announcement. On the group&rsquo s first-quarter earnings call late last month, Mr Adelson said the firm was interested in pursuing  merger and acquisition activity  in Asia, though didn&rsquo t identify any targets. The entrepreneur had previously been on record saying he preferred to develop new resorts rather than acquire the assets of others. Mr Adelson said in Tuesday&rsquo s  announcement  he remained &ldquo extremely bullish&rdquo about the future the  company and &ldquo its growth prospects,&rdquo and noted it was  committed to major spending  in its existing Asian operations. He added he thought the success of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) model for casino resort business his firm had &ldquo pioneered&rdquo in Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore would &ldquo ultimately be considered by other Asian countries, particularly as governments look to increase leisure and business tourism as a driver of economic growth&rdquo . |

No doubt. Too little upside and so many news about second wave of spreading looming. Even if reopen. Travel restrictions most likely will be at least till end 2020 for most countries. Already let go mine liao. too risky.
