found another one...hmm http://www.fool.sg/2015/02/02/here-is-1-reason-for-investors-to-be-impressed-with-singapore-airlines-ltd/ seems to think that the industry is flawed with razor thin margin and cut throat competition. and it seems to be that SIA and its govt will need to continue to support this industry despite the challenges ahead...they got no choice as its one of their key survival nodes.   Investors however are not hindered by the same consideration.   Hmm tough one but it looks to me that sunset has already begun, but when will the colour turn to red like Qantas who amazingly just turned it around |

spamming..... no worry, SIA will eventually go up to 14 dollars, especially close to next earning result. The CNY period surely made them make a lot of money although 60% fuel was hedged at high but 40% was still not hedged and fuel oil surcharge before March are still maintain at high level and fully booked!!!

Among the busiest airports in the Asia-Pacific, Shanghai Pudong (PVG) +9.5% and Incheon (ICN) +9.6% both reported close to 10% increase in 2014. Singapore Airlines Ltd forms bearish " Head and Shoulders Top" chart pattern Feb 23, 2015 Recognia has detected a " Head and Shoulders Top" chart pattern formed on Singapore Airlines Ltd (C6L:SGX-ST). This bearish signal indicates that the stock price may fall from the close of  12.00  to the range of  10.70  -  11.00. The pattern formed over 60 days which is roughly the period of time in which the target price range may be achieved, according to standard principles of technical analysis. Tells Me: The price seems to have reached the end of a period of " distribution" at the top of a major uptrend the break down through support signals a reversal to a new downtrend. The Head and Shoulders Top is created by three successive rallies in the price following a significant uptrend. The highest high (head) is in the middle, flanked by two lower highs (shoulders) at roughly the same level. Volume is highest as the price makes the first two rallies, then diminishes through the right shoulder. Finally volume surges as the price closes below the neckline (drawn between the two lows) to confirm the reversal. |

Yep, past is behind us, Tigerair has SIA firmly behind them.      Believe it' s the ambition to cover all segments of the market, why should the LCC mkt be controlled by other cos, the combination of Tigerair and Scoot backed by SIA would be powerful.    And it' s cleaned up completely, now the tiger is lean and mean. |

Kyoto, I agree with your thoughts about Tiger being too adventurous......blame it on the ang mo' s who ran it to the ground. They sold off their shares and ran. Also agree with you about your analysis about tigerair fuel hedging.Surely a positive. That could be one of the reasons SQ decided to take a majority interest   in it. They will continue to show growth from next earning announcement because all bad debts and   bad deals already wiped off their books. Also the recent air tragedies will cause people to fly with better airlines and hence Tiger and Scoot will benefit from this. My problem is that i think SQ hedged too much of their fuel at such a high price and this will show up in the next earning announcement. Also some senior managers are going to retire soon. This will also be a cause for worry. SQ IS running Tiger. Their guy is at the helm!!Ha Ha no one gets sacked at SQ or Tiger. Iron rice bowl friend. I remember reading their forward looking statements........not too encouraging.....could be because normally the quarter after the dec holidays is usually a quiet one. It picks up in the summer time when holiday season is back again. Also their JV' s a not proftable.They have been a drag on their numbers. Some JV' s a re starting to lose money!!It' s dragging down their overall numbers.That is the reason i' m cautious. I will not be a buyer right now but will keep my ears to the ground. Watch for news just before earnings come out. Normally there are hints. Good Luck to you |

Understand Scoot is owned by SIA 100%, and the revenues/profits are not disclosed.    Tigair I thought was like 55% owned by SIA as SIA went to convert loans or warrants to push up their shareholdings from 40% before to 55%.  But Today reported that SIA owns more than 71% of Tigair.    It could be the rights issue that SIA said they would buy up if noone takes up.      Also Tigair did not hedge 100% of fuel oil, it' s only 35% at more than US100plus up to Mar 2016, so there' s still 65% low fuel cost advantage to boost earnings.      Last point, before, SIA was a minority shareholder of Tigair, it does not have the power to remove Tigair' s board of directors.    Now they own more than 55%, and Tigair' s BOD shd be really on their toes to bring in profits to the parent, or else, they better have a good reason why they should not be sacked.

The analyst was referring to the past Tigar operations where they took on more than they could handle.    2 rights issues after, they are still struggling with losses and that was a constant drag on SIA' s profitability, the latter previously owning 40% of Tigair.  However, after the Tigair 3rd rights issue, things have changed.    One, Tigair is now debt free, so there' s no interest servicing burden.  Two, Tigair and Scoot collaboration is supposed to be able to grab a strong position in the low cost carrier segment, this seems to be what Lui is saying, Tigair connects with Scoot and vice versa.  This was the way Silkway was helped along by SIA, connectivity up to 60% I read in in artcile.     The pie is neatly divided, Silkair and SIA goes after the premium class, Tigair and Scoot the LCC segment.     Three, Tigair sold off the excess businesses so as to focus on areas where there are synergies with Scoot.  My gut feel seems to tell me that in the past, Tigair was more interested in grabbing as many routes as possible, and sinking a lot of monies into areas they are familiar with, hence burning up cash quickly. The board was crazy with growth ambitions but they failed miserably because more routes do not equal higher profitability, you need to fill the cabins with passengers and only if there is connectivity, not just price advantage.     Now with the discipline of cutting excesses and focusing on their strengths, plus the collaboration with Scoot, the chances of success are a lot higher.    I think the analyst missed these points and simply gloss over Tigair' s less glamourous past without looking at what has gone on hence one can dismiss those remarks.
