I am no analyst but take a look at these 2 sentences: " Wilmar International may inject capital that could reach up to $1.38b (US$732m) in the soybean production and processing as well as    the transhipment of soybean concentrates in Russia& rsquo s Far East, a Russian regional ministry revealed. " as reported by reuters and posted by octavia on 18 nov and " Currently, palm oil and soybean are facing excess supply. This follows the imposition of tariffs on US soybean imports by China as part of the trade war ..... " as reported by exotix.  It seems like US soybean is the one facing excess supply, not worldwide. The argument by exotix is rather vague.

The countries they mainly serve may have very different business climate and hence their analysis. Just take it with a pinch of salt, IMHO. | ||||

Probably no one has ever heard of this Exotix. A  search on the internet provided scant information but its description sounds like the American Wild West era. Lol. It specializes in illiquid bonds and loans, equities, structured finance, and capital raising. The firm sells and distributes fixed income products, as well as engages in sourcing loans in distressed and emerging markets across the GCC, the Caribbean, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, sub-Saharan Africa, and other key frontier markets. It also sells and trades equities covering various stock markets in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Botswana, BRVM, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Tunisia. The firm deals with debt-with-equity transactions and private equity placement of frontier market stocks.

Wilmar in cashflow stress test 'danger zone', says Exotix's Tiruchelvam
By: Samantha Chiew 28/11/18, 12:40 pm SINGAPORE (Nov 28): Wilmar, the largest palm oil processor in the world, has appeared in the ?danger zone? of Exotix Capital?s cashflow stress test. This comes agter the research house stress tested the cashflows of 42 consumer companies on their vulnerability to an interest rate hike and depreciation. Currently, palm oil and soybean are facing excess supply. This follows the imposition of tariffs on US soybean imports by China as part of the trade war while palm oil is facing a glut. Crude palm oil (CPO) prices have dropped almost 20% in 2018 to its lowest in three years. The last time palm oil fell by this magnitude over a six-month period was in 2008 where Wilmar saw a 23% drop in its 4Q08 pre-tax earnings. In its report Is there a Debt Bomb Ticking?, Exotix's analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam says the spectre of inventory writedowns is once again looming over the horizon. In addition, the group reported net interest expenses of US$187 million on net debt of US$20.5 billion for FY17. Tiruchelvam believes that the potential unwinding of the USD-RMB carry trade could reduce the group?s FY19 net income by about 20%. A narrowing of net income by 1% could shave off a third of its earnings. Meanwhile, the mainstay of Wilmar?s FY12-17 capex of US$6.5 billion was the tropical oils segment, which includes palm oil and soybean processing. But in terms of capex per tonne for processing assets, this has been in excess of the industry average of US$160 per tonne and has exceeded ROIC for the past three years. This may cause ROIC to falter in FY18-19 due to the excess processing supply. Moreover, intense expansion in palm oil and soybean oil refining capacity have weakened refining margins in the industry. Wilmar saw pre-tax processing margins in the palm & laurics business fall to US$10.75/MT in FY16 from US$33.4/MT in FY12. Other players such as Mewah, Indofood Agri and China Agri have also reported similar poor margins due to glut. In a Tuesday report, Exotix has initiated a ?sell? recommendation on Wilmar with a target price of $2.29. ?At about 14x EV/EBITDA 2018F, Wilmar is trading at a 36% premium to the sector average, which we think is unwarranted in light of its faltering returns and poor earnings growth,? says Tiruchelvam. As at 12.53pm, shares in Wilmar are trading at $3.16 or 10 times 2018F earnings. |

Wilmar may invest up to $1.38b in Russian soybean production Wilmar International may inject capital that could reach up to $1.38b (US$732m) in the soybean production and processing as well as the transhipment of soybean concentrates in Russia&rsquo s Far East, a Russian regional ministry revealed. Wilmar&rsquo s long-term investment programme in the Far East has been developed with Russian support, the ministry for the development of the Far East said in a statement, summing up meetings between officials and potential investors on the sidelines of a regional conference in Singapore, which President Vladimir Putin attended this week. The ministry said the potential long-term investment as part of the programme could reach $732 million, but so far the investor was ready for the first stage of the project, which requires only $13.75m (US$10m) to start soybean production on 10,000 ha. &ldquo If the project is successful and we are given more land, the investment will grow to involve building processing plants, storage and port facilities,&rdquo Wilmar told Reuters. |

3Q likely to be another solid quarter for Wilmar: UOB 18/10/18, 04:34 pm SINGAPORE (Oct 18): UOB KayHian expects another solid quarter for Wilmar International, supported by the oilseeds & grains and palm & lauric oils divisions. Scheduled to release its 3Q18 results on Nov 12, UOB expects the Oilseed & grains division to post a higher profit before tax (PBT) as soybean crushing margins recovered in 3Q18 and festive demand remains high. Better downstream margins from palm & laurics are also expected from higher utilisation rate. Key drivers were higher sales volumes on the back of higher biodiesel sales volumes in Indonesia, increase in exports and better refining margins on a higher utilisation rate. &ldquo We expect 3Q18 core net profit to come in at US$390-430 million, says analyst Leow Huey Chuen, &ldquo If Wilmar does meet our estimate, our 2018 core net profit forecast might be upgraded by 10-15%&rdquo . UOB is maintaining a &ldquo buy&rdquo on Wilmar with a target price of $3.90. https://www.theedgesingapore.com/3q-likely-be-another-solid-quarter-wilmar-uob |
