That' s it,   no one knows hence the lawsuit filed by US airlines. It seems European airlines like Lufthansa and KLM also filing suits.

Hence they can produce excellent profits but the latest law suits brought by the Americans againgst them about unfair practises is key. Somewhere down the line they will have to answer these questions and i' m sure hefty fines will be imposed.   True SIA is losing market share but Goh Choon Phong is taking steps to counter this. Long range flights   Suite class, bigger, business class and premium economy class are all factors to consider. Recently i heard from family living in US there has been an increase in adverts about SQ in their media. U have to know that SQ own' s their planes outright.....no loans so their only cost comes from running the planes and with low oil prices this can only get better.

The way i see it is that the only headwinds they face are macro issues like Fed rate rise, terror attacks. Low oil is gd for them. If all goes well i believe SQ will produce good numbers ( at least for this quarter). There is also talk of dividend increase. But i don' t like to hold for too long since dividend payments are sometime in Jul/Aug. 

Vested but not much. regret not buying more. Sigh......

What&rsquo s causing SIA&rsquo s load factors to unexpectedly soar?



Load factors are on their fifth month of improvement.

Singapore&rsquo s flag carrier has recently been exceeding expectations in terms of load factors, turning even pessimistic analysts into believers.

According to analysts from UOB Kay Hian, their previous expectation of a 0.2ppt decrease in load factor for 2016 has been changed into a 0.6ppt increase on back of rising traffic.

UOB Kay Hian says codeshares, two or more airlines sharing the same flight, are likely behind this spike, finally bearing fruit.

UOB Kay Hian adds that active capacity management also played a part in the improvement.

Improving load factors are a good sign for Singapore Airlines, as every 1ppt improvement in load factor is expected to raise net profit by approximately $50m.

&ldquo Parent SIA&rsquo s pax load factor improved 3.1ppt in November, with stronger loads across all regions. The greatest load factor improvement was in long-haul routes, to West Asia, Africa, Southwest Pacific, Europe and the US,&rdquo UOB Kay Hian said.

I' m not for or against anyone n I acknowledge what u' ve posted may be correct.  But I think to the americans, a lot of coys in other countries  around the world are unfairly subsidised.  Not sure if we dig deep, we' d find some practices in SIA, however small they might have been,  that might be deemed by some qtrs as unfair too.  Just to digress a bit, are we also  100% sure that KC or SMM ddid not get some kind of help to have grown to where they are now.  I' m not saying they did.  I' m just not sure they weren' t either.  So, the ME airlines are heavily subsidised so people say.  Let the relevant governing bodies decide.  But I' d say coys that have grown very large, maybe even Samsung, Ssanyong, etc might have had some helping hands too.  Sometimes, it' s a reality that makes the difference ..... maybe NOL had to struggle so much cos it was too much on its own.  N one of my personal observations is that one reason some of our local  coys are losing out to foreign ones, even in govt tenders is that some of the competion might have had some help whereas  our local bidders are left on their own.  Anyway, the pt is if the ME airlines are being unfairly helped, then the projected profit growth for the airline industry  going forward  might as a result flow mostly to them,  probably n so it might not warrant our being too optimistic abt SIA' s share px going forward.

THE International Air Transport Association (Iata) has revised its airline industry profit outlook for 2015 upwards from US$29.3 billion to US$33 billion, citing cheaper fuel, robust passenger demand as well as the stronger economic performance in the US and Europe.

Profits are expected to rise further next year, clocking US$36.3 billion and a profit margin of 5.1 per cent.

This year, Brent oil prices are expected to average US$55 per barrel, and ease to US$51 per barrel in 2016.

Oh and just my two cents worth......no expert. I don' t think SQ will drop because of Tiger. SQ will rise if they get 90% approval and take over Tiger.

Andy went down to $10.10 woh!! Tough Luck bro. I did not get at that price too. Managed 2 lots at 10.12 and 10.15. I don' t see it going down to that price anytime soon. Just waiting for Yellen to raise rates so not buying anything till i know for sure what the FED will do. I still think there will be a knee jerk reaction but Sing markets will do much better than our neighbours. People need to park their money in a safe place right??

Noted yr points........make a lot of sense. Yup, all it will take is for a bad winter or some sort of catastrophe and oil will go up. Either way SIA' s earnings will be good this coming quarter as it is the strongest quarter of the year. Together with proper hedging i see profits increasing. Near term sure to have volatility but i' m holding my lots till   end Jan or   maybe even slightly longer. Last year i sold off too early, as i was going on three week holiday, it reached 12.91 by end Jan. This time i will pay attention closely to market news. Gd Luck.

On another note has anyone received their letter' s from Tiger board. Suppose to be before the 10th. It seems they are cutting it really close. Today up to 0.415. Those trading using KIM ENG should know first. Pls post if you have info. Thanks in advance.
