Telkom' s Positive Digital Transformation Performance Begins to Generate Brilliant Profit

PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk(Telkom)recorded a double-digit net profit growth in performance during the first half of 2021. Until June 2021, the company' s consolidated net income reached Rp 12.5 trillion or grew 13.3 percent Year on Year (YoY).
 
 
Profit growth of up to double digits was obtained because Telkom managed to optimize the performance of the company' s diverse digital products and services. One of Telkom' s digital products that recorded positive growth is IndiHome, a provider of fixed broadband services for the community.
 
 
Telkom recorded consolidated revenue of Rp 69.5 trillion or grew 3.9 percent YoY. In the same period, earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) reached Rp 37.8 trillion or grew 4.7 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. The company' s EBITDA margin rose from 54.0 percent in the second quarter of 2020 to 54.4 percent in the second quarter of 2021. The consistency of performance achieved by Telkom Indonesia thanks to the company' s commitment to transform the business to become a leading digital telco in Indonesia and even regionally.
 
 
During the first half of 2021, IndiHome' s revenue grew 24.2 percent YoY to Rp 12.9 trillion, with EBITDA margin also growing impressively, from 38.6 percent as of June 2020 to 47.6 percent as of June 2021.
 
 
This can not be separated from the addition of customers and ARPU that is increasingly improving, as a result of the variety of add-ons services that are increasingly in demand and improve the customer experience. Partnerships with global content providers are proving to be the right and fruitful growth strategy for IndiHome services.
 
 
IndiHome' s revenue contribution to TelkomGroup' s consolidated revenue rose to 18.5 percent as of June 2021, up from 15.5 percent in the same period last year.
 
 
IndiHome' s positive performance was achieved thanks to various marketing efforts that have been made such as encouraging customers to upgrade service and speed, as well as varying packages of add-ons. This effort has an impact on increasing ARPU to Rp 270 thousand compared to the first quarter of 2021 of Rp 266 thousand.
 
 
IndiHome customers have increased by 285 thousand customers since the beginning of the year, bringing the total number of IndiHome customers to the second quarter of 2021 to 8.3 million people, up 11.4 percent YoY. Various content can be enjoyed by IndiHome customers such as entertainment programs, movies, and oriental series that are now present through the Dynasty Lite Minipack package. In addition, IndiHome has also just launched a new channel for children called IndiKids.
 
 
In the Mobilesegment, Telkomsel' s digital business revenue reached Rp 33.36 trillion or grew 4.7 percent YoY. The contribution of digital services revenue to Telkomsel' s total revenue rose from 72.4 percent per 2nd quarter 2020 to 77.3 percent per 2nd quarter 2021. This growth can not be separated from the large customer base of Telkomsel of 169.2 million people, with mobile data users recorded as many as 117.7 million customers or grew 12 percent YoY.
 
 
Mobile segment data traffic also grew 54.5 percent YoY to 6,573,499 Terabytes. Telkom services can run optimally thanks to the operation of 237,300 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) of which 187,048 are based on 3G or 4G. In total, the number of BTS owned by Telkomsel grew 4 percent YoY as of June 2021.
 
 
" Telkom is committed to digital transformation consistently by providing various products and services that meet the needs of the community in the new normal era. The presence of connectivity, the best digital platforms and services from Telkom is expected to help the community in their activities, so that economic growth and the welfare of the Indonesian people will improve in the future," said Telkom President Director, Ririek Adriansyah in Jakarta, Tuesday (31/8).
 
 
Telkom' s performance improvement also occurred in the Enterprise segment, with revenue reaching Rp 8.7 trillion or growing 12.2% YoY. The growth of this segment comes from IT services and connectivity solutions. This is a testament to Telkom' s growing strategy by encouraging the digitization of corporate customers through reliable connectivity as the company' s core competencies and diverse services. This is in line with the direction of the Ministry of SOEs so that Telkom can act as a digital hub for SOEs.
 
 
In addition, the company' s revenue from the Wholesale & International Business segment also rose 1.2 percent YoY to Rp 6.9 trillion. This increase is due to the growth of telecommunication tower, data center, and A2P service business.
 
 
Data centers are becoming digital platforms whose demand is growing significantly along with the increase in player activity in the digital business. In addition, from the telecommunication tower business, Mitratel as a subsidiary of Telkom which currently has more than 23 thousand towers or grew 45 percent YoY, has a tenancy ratio of 1.57 times from the previous 1.54 times in June 2020. Mitratel took various steps as the largest tower player in Indonesia, which supports various needs not only for TelkomGroup but also other tenants. So mitratel prepares to optimize the next value creation through even greater corporate action.

In digital business, telkom' s business transformation shows quite good results. In an effort to develop digital business, TelkomGroup implements three main strategies, namely build by building internal competencies, borrow through strategic partnerships, and buy through acquisitions and investments that prioritize TelkomGroup synergy value.
 
 
Telkom is committed to establishing cooperation or collaboration with various large technology companies(tech giants)both domestically and globally. One of them is in August 2021, Telkom officially conducted a cooperation with Microsoft Indonesia. Telkom also disbursed investments for large-scale digital companies and startups, such as Telkomsel which added value to investments in gojek technology companies in May 2021.
 
 
Through venture firm MDI, Telkom also consistently adds value and amount of investment inpotentialstartupsfrom home andabroad. Currently, through MDI Telkom has invested in 50 startups from 12 countries.
 
 
The investment strategy in startups carried out bythe company is not only focused on increasing the value of investment(capital gain),but also from collaboration opportunities that startups may do to various business lines in TelkomGroup to build synergies in increasing the company' s business and profitability.
 
 
" Telkom will continue to maintain and improve the quality of services and digital products for use by all levels of society. This is in line with the increasing rate of digital adoption of people and companies along with the ongoing pandemic situation that encourages digitalization in all fields.
