As Venture Corporation reported net profit of $65.3 million and revenue of $686.7 million for the 1QFY2021 ended March on April 30, analysts from CGS-CIMB Research, DBS Group Research and UOB Kay Hian have kept &ldquo add&rdquo or &ldquo buy&rdquo on the group, with the exception of PhillipCapital, which has maintained its &ldquo neutral&rdquo call. See: Venture Corporation sees 8.3% higher net profit of $65.3 mil in 1Q21 due to shortages in global parts and components The slight increase in revenue of 2% y-o-y during the quarter, which was held back by the ongoing component shortage in the electronics manufacturing industry, largely missed analysts&rsquo expectations, except for UOB Kay Hian, which deemed it in line with its FY2021 estimates. Based on the group&rsquo s 1Q update, CGS-CIMB analyst William Tng has reduced his target price on Venture to $22.51 from $24.84 previously, as he cuts his revenue forecasts for FY2021 to FY2023 by 3% to 5%. Tng has also reduced his earnings estimates for the same period by 7% to 10%. |

Venture Q1 net profit rises 8.3% to S$65.3m
Venture: V03 -1.27%&rsquo s net profit for the first quarter improved 8.3 per cent to S$65.3 million from S$60.3 million in the previous year, the company said on Friday.
The improvement came despite " tepid growth in revenue" of 2 per cent to S$686.7 million.
The electronics manufacturing services firm attributed the slow revenue growth to global parts and components shortages, and said it has set up working groups to address the supply challenges.
Earnings per share was 22.4 Singapore cents per share, up from 20.8 cents in Q1 2020. Net cash position increased to S$989.6 million as at March 31 from S$928.7 million as at Dec 31, 2020, and net asset value per share grew to S$9.19 from S$8.92 on improved profitability.
Venture said that customer orders are strong across its segments, with several sophisticated, leading-edge products seeing good demand. It plans to launch new products to meet increasing needs for electronic test equipment, optical and photonics networking solutions and 5G infrastructure development.
Ongoing supply disruptions for parts and components are the main obstacle to fulfilling the orders. The working groups that Venture has set up will communicate with the operations teams to strategise solutions and implement joint initiatives with various external stakeholders such as customers and partners, suppliers and component manufacturers to secure the needed parts and components.
The group expects a quarter-on-quarter improvement in Q2 2021 for a stronger H1 2021 performance compared to the previous year.

Tobacco is a recession-proof industry, and Philip Morris International is an excellent example of this concept. The cigarette maker held up well during last year' s economic downturn. And it looks poised to generate long-term growth as it executes its pivot to reduced-risk products. While net revenue declined 3.7% to $28.7 billion in 2020, operating income grew 11% to $11.6 billion because of price hikes, improvements in manufacturing productivity, and the growing proportion of heated tobacco unit (HTU) sales. HTUs now represent 11% of total shipment volume, with the flagship IQOS heated tobacco platform representing 24% of net revenue -- up from 19% of revenue in the prior-year period. IQOS is a tobacco product that releases nicotine without combustion, earning it a reduced-risk marketing authorization by the FDA. The IQOS platform could also drive margin growth because of cost efficiencies in its production. Philip Morris International expects earnings per share (EPS) of up to $6 in 2021, which would be 16% above the prior year. Management plans to return value to investors through a dividend (which currently yields 5.4%) and a buyback program aiming to repurchase $5 billion to $7 billion worth of shares starting the second half of the year.
