Singtel to pay S$330m to raise Intouch stake to 24.99% in deal with Temasek
SINGTEL : Z74 -1.2% on Thursday (Jun 16) proposed to raise its stake in Intouch Holdings to 24.99 per cent from 21.21 per cent by acquiring an additional 3.78 per cent stake from Temasek' s wholly-owned subsidiary Anderton Investments.

Singtel will pay S$330 million in cash, which represents a 5 per cent discount to the volume-weighted average price for each Intouch share on the Stock Exchange of Thailand calculated for 20 trading days before the date of the share purchase agreement.

The S$330 million consideration also represents about 2.04 per cent of Singtel and its subsidiaries&rsquo latest audited consolidated net tangible assets as at Mar 31, 2022. Singtel plans to complete the transaction by the end of June 2022.

The Singapore telco is 1 of the 2 largest shareholders of Intouch, which is the parent company of Advanced Info Services (AIS), a regional associate of Singtel and Thailand&rsquo s largest mobile phone network. The largest shareholder is Thai-listed power producer Gulf Energy.

Singtel group chief executive Yuen Kuan Moon said in a press statement that the increased investment deepens the group&rsquo s partnership with Gulf Energy and is part of Singtel&rsquo s strategy of actively recycling capital to invest for growth and shareholder returns.

He noted that Intouch has been delivering good returns supported by consistently strong execution from AIS.

Appointed independent financial advisor Ernst & Young Corporate Finance has given its opinion to Singtel&rsquo s independent directors that the terms of the acquisition, as an interested person transaction, are on normal commercial terms and not prejudicial to the interests of Singtel and its minority shareholders.

Talk so much no use one. Whole world stock down what not just Singtel only. You look at other bluechips, a lot easily -20% or more. Pro trader can short can long at the right timing. Market trend up also earn. Market trend down also earn. :) Unfortunately i' m not that one..haiz. |

Those who claim they are happy to see it fall further to buy more are likely those who are vested minimally. How much more do they buy? 1000 or 2000 shares? That?s is quite a joke
Buy singtel with a view of a long term investor? If I buy today expecting it to drop and only rise in the long term? Then I should have bought fixed income instead

And some even mentioned fundamentals, if it was really the case this counter should have already rose to 5 or $6 and not languishing and floating around at $2+ despite so many news and businesses worldwide. It should be doing way better even if during bad times now. It all depends on whether investors trust the company and not fundamentals...you can have billions of businesses like Singtel per year and still if you can't convinced investors to plunge in then it is meaningless

I see a lot of people are still delusional, calling this a fluctuation when its taken an exact nosedive. And i am pretty certain they are buyers who have held on for many years in the hope it will recover back to when it was in the $4+...thus consoling themselves that when it dropped to $2.40 i can buy more but in truth many have long sold off their previous buyings. Unless you invested 6 figures when it was only at $1 i don't see how you can get a lot of profits even if you have gotten 10 years of dividends...that time just isn't worth it...all your capital are stuck in there for a decade and unless you have your own savings...this is just not the way to invest in something.

Singtel and Gulf for the data centres. Intouch will most likely be a user of the data centres.

This deal gives Singtel more say in Intouch / AIS versus Gulf Energy, which is also Singtel' s JV partner for data centers in Thailand.  There is a strategic need behind the move.

When Singtel took up additional stake in Airtel last year, its share price also took a hit for a while.  There were also plenty of complaints from forummers here. But 1 year later, that additional stake is worth a few hundred million more and market talk is the Airtel stake will be sold to Mittal family to monetise the gain.  Same thing will happen in this case - serious investors should accumulate on temporary weakness.  |
