Singapore non-oil exports jump by 16.1% in June on low base in previous year FRI, JUL 17, 2020 - 8:30 AM SINGAPORE exports bounced back in June after a dip in May, on a low base in the year prior. Non-oil domestic exports (NODX) expanded by 16.1 per cent year on year, according to data from trade agency Enterprise Singapore (ESG) on Friday. The rebound followed a surprise slip in May, which was revised downwards to a 4.6 per cent contraction. June' s showing resoundingly beat private-sector economists' estimate of 8 per cent growth in a Bloomberg poll. NODX was boosted by specialised machinery exports and the typically volatile pharmaceutical segment. Non-electronic shipments rose by 14.5 per cent overall, after a 9 per cent decline in May. The growth was also driven by non-monetary gold, which surged by 238 per cent. ESG noted that physical gold has been a safe-haven asset amid heightened global economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, the linchpin electronics cluster saw exports rise by 22.2 per cent on a rebound in integrated circuits from the trough during the electronics down-cycle in the year before. " There are also increasing signs that pharmaceuticals production, which had initially seemed to benefit from the Covid-19 outbreak, may be faltering, leaving less of a cushion for headline GDP," he said. Singapore' s second-quarter gross domestic product is down 12.6 per cent year on year, in official estimates based on April and May data. Mr Tan added: " In sequential terms, pharmaceuticals exports continued to collapse." https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/government-economy/singapore-non-oil-exports-jump-by-161-in-june-on-low-base-in-previous-year |

It's not about seeing others being better is bad but the situation is a reality that people in Singapore do not like to hear for their own benefits? In the 1st place, HK inflows coming into sg, who on earth in Sg started this statement and kept ranting capital inflows from HK? You know, I know. Very wicked indeed.

Why SG sees the need to keep declaring that not much money is flowing fm HK to SG?    ![]() It has been doing this since last year when HK riots started.  ![]() SG Restates: No &lsquo Significant&rsquo Fund Inflows from HK 2020/07/16 16:31 Ravi Menon, Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, said there has not been &ldquo significant&rdquo money inflows and business activities from Hong Kong into the city-state. Singapore would rather see a successful Hong Kong, added Menon. http://www.aastocks.com/en/stocks/news/aafn-con/NOW.1028395/top-news |

DBS' s weak Q2 showing may be cycle' s bottom for bank: Citi

CITI Research expects DBS to report a " cycle-low" return on equity (ROE) of 7.5 per cent in Q2, with the projected weak earnings likely the worst of it in a season that has been seriously rattled by a health crisis.

Singapore' s largest lender is Citi' s top sector pick, though Citi cautioned that a reported ROE of 7.5 per cent in Q2, down from 9.2 per cent in Q1, may put pressure on DBS' s shares. The counter has rallied to 1.1 times on a price-to-book basis, outperforming its local banking peers.

" We expect weak results - an impact of the April to May lockdown - and view this to be the quarterly earnings trough," said Citi analyst Robert Kong in a report on Tuesday.

Citi is expecting DBS' s Q2 net profit to come in at S$1 billion, down 37 per cent year-on-year and 13 per cent from the previous quarter.

Q2 net interest margin (NIM) is expected to fall by 21 basis points (bps) to 1.65 per cent, with benchmark interest rates down some 90 bps on a quarterly basis. If the post-global financial crisis NIM of 1.6 per cent is breached, there could be further downside risks to earnings, said Mr Kong.

The bank' s wealth management fees make up 36 per cent of its total fees, with credit card and transaction fees amounting to 43 per of total fees. Amid lockdown measures, such fees earned by banks will be hit, said Citi. This is even with a likely cushion from treasury flows and mark-to-market bond gains. Flat costs are also expected to mitigate a large fall in revenue.

Citi is projecting for DBS' s Q2 provisions to amount to S$625 million, compared with S$1.1 billion in Q1.

" DBS was ahead of its peers in Q1 in taking S$1.1 billion in credit costs, and we hope DBS continues to front-load provisions to pave the way for a stronger 2021 ROE recovery."

Loaded-up on DBS too a few weeks ago and has stopped since. Bros,... if can' t buy DBS anymore due to valuation, how abt considering a ' DBS co-structured fund (with Schroders)' and exclusively distributed by DBS ? https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/dbs-schroders-launch-multi-asset-fund-for-retirement-income-planning |

Lol if I knew I would be rich , but no I don?t expect it to hit 25 anytime soon this year , 24.5 estimate if no further impact and results to expectation . DBS has the least capital equity ratio among the 3 banks , and might issue scrips for their next dividend

You need to have a target price in mind , then DYODD , holding the 3 major banks with horizon of the next 2 years to cash out and rotate is my objective .
My TP for DBS was 20.50 and UOB below 20.30 , so when UOB hit I just got in . I?m lucky enough to have a friend who shared with me a 55 page report on all 3 banks . Was quite a read before I invested , learnt terms like CET1 NIM etc which helped me access my TP and sell level

Hey guys, our call on $DBS this week went well. Hope you guys didn' t miss the trade!  Price bounced off the 62 fib retracement nicely and is likely to go higher.  Fundamentally, we have seen increasing buy call in June as now 50% of analysts are having a buy call on DBS. ![]()
