KGI Securities reiterates ' buy' call and $2 target price on Yangzijiang Shipbuilding
KGI Securities has reiterated its ' buy' call and $2 target price for Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, given how earnings from strong demand growth will enjoy further lift with a weaker RMB.
 
As at end of last year, the company has built up an orderbook of US$14.5 billion, to build a mix of containerships, oil tankers, bulk carriers and gas carriers, which will provide clear earnings visibility to FY2027, 
 
Out of this total, US$7.1 billion worth, for 97 vessels, were ordered in 2023, far surpassing the company' s own target of US$3 billion. 
 
Citing Clarkson, KGI sees growth in demand for container vessels and tankers to continue this year, with total container shipping capacity up by 7% and 5% in 2024 and 2025 respectively. 
 
Also, citing shipbroker Xclusiv, KGI says that the tankers market is expected to grow in 2024, mainly driven by the Asian oil demand. 
 
Overall, the ongoing Red Sea attacks will be keeping demand for ships elevated, as the vessels are being compelled to take longer routes via the Cape of Good Hope, resulting in longer turn around time.

The petitioners have proposed port fees of US$1 million per port-call as one of the possible Section 301 remedies." A very misguided fee, but I guess the logic is to redirect those fees collectively to allied shipbuilders of US, Japan, Korea, Vietnam etc. Lets see outcome in about 27 days time. --------------------- https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202403/26/WS66023cada31082fc043beb94_1.html More positive news on enlarged subsidiary Jiangsu Yangzi. Quiet achiever who has garnered high backlogs. YZJSB is now a big boy with a big name. All in YZJSB has full earnings visibility (in fact superiority), right till 2028. We watch closely next few years if any taper off or even defaults. Share will continue to rise in tandem, to reflect increasing profits. Divs might 6.5, 7.5, 8.5c lagging, but some can argue that stingy Ren might well continue paying good divs during its downcycle, to keep in the ultra LT holders. This share is now as big as Keppel or STEng. Likewise, its institutional shareholders will get more influential in guiding (or pestering) Ren in it' s asset deployment, and financial engineering. Overall, sit back and enjoy the ride....  |

The US resorting to extort other countries to try to reverse its decline. Ultimately they won' t be able to stop this. Catch up economics at its simplest. If its not China it' ll be India or some other Asian country.

Resurrected New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding makes European comebackReborn Chinese yard New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding has clinched its first foreign newbuilding order since relaunching last year. The yard, formerly known as Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, is returning to the European chemical tanker market in a deal with inland-focused Dutch owner Mercurius Shipping for four duplex stainless steel ships. The order for the 135-m-long vessels, classed by Lloyd&rsquo s Register, adds to six chemical tankers already booked by domestic shipowners last year, New Jiangzhou said without disclosing further details about the new deal.  The yard in Jiangxi, under its old name, had previously delivered fifteen 16,500 dwt chemical tankers for German owners Bernhard Schulte and Sloman Neptun before it suspended operations in 2018 due to financial difficulties and its operation was taken over by  Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.  In March 2023, New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding was launched, backed by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding subsidiary Jiangsu Yangchuan Investment Development and Qinshi Group, a controlling parent of Bestway Marine & Energy Technology. First domestic orders were announced in December, including Alita (Shanghai) International Shipping for up to four 13,800 dwt chemical tankers, with deliveries starting in 2025.
