Singtel' s Philippine associate raises $410.6 mil in rights offer

Globe Telecom, the Philippine associate of SGX-listed Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel), has raised gross proceeds of 17.0 billion pesos ($410.6 million) through its rights offer.

In its statement dated Oct 28, Globe says it has formally listed 10.12 million common shares to shareholders that participated in the rights offer, pricing the shares at 1,680 pesos apiece.

The offer marks Globe&rsquo s return to equity capital markets after two decades since it last raised equity from its shareholders.

The offer was said to be oversubscribed. All the rights shares were fully allocated to Globe&rsquo s existing shareholders.

According to Globe, proceeds from the offer will be used to partly fund capital expenditures (capex) and pay the company&rsquo s short term debt obligations.

It will also enable the company to further expand its digital ecosystem and differentiate itself in the market as it capitalises on opportunities in and beyond telecommunications.

Ernest Cu, Globe&rsquo s president and CEO says, &ldquo We are overwhelmed by the support shown by Globe&rsquo s shareholders for this offer. This support reflects trust in the capability of Globe to execute our core business and digital service platform initiatives. We are truly appreciative of their continued partnership with us to create and enable the digital life of the Philippines&rdquo .

Globe CFO Rizza Maniego-Eala adds: &ldquo We believe that this offer highlights Globe&rsquo s competitive differentiation in the market, further solidifies our healthy financials and enables us to pursue greater milestones while delivering industry-leading value to our shareholders. This offer likewise empowers the company with the necessary flexibility to navigate this ever dynamic environment&rdquo .

Ayala Corporation and Singtel&rsquo s subsidiary, Singapore Telecom International, supported the offer by exercising their pre-emptive rights to subscribe to their respective pro-rata share in the offer.

More Australian businesses are hit by data breaches. Maybe good news for Singtel, as it can argue, see it is not my fault, it is not preventable.
New details have emerged on the severity of the Medibank hack, which has now affected all users. Optus, Medibank, Woolworths, and, last Friday, electricity provider Energy Australia are all now among the household names that have fallen victim to a data breach. If it seems like barely a week goes by without news of another incident like this, you would be right. Cybercrime is on the rise ? seven major Australian businesses were affected by data breaches in the past month alone. |

Lol Singtel will not go bankrupt . There are still much asset inside.  However, this episode will be an issue for Singtel/Optus in Australia and certainly affecting it financial position in the next year or two.  I wonder when is its coming result and any update ( est ) on the potential lost from its Ceo ( once in a blue moon ) dyodd

Another risk..
Optus will also have to prepare for more than just individual complaints. ?Slightly further afield, Optus will be dealing with a range of contractual queries and disputes by clients (including larger corporate clients who may have imposed specific data security obligations into agreements) and sponsors as they consider the implications of this incident,? he said. ?Any disputes that are not resolved could result in further litigation. Corporate clients of Optus should also consider if any of their security incident and data breach notification obligations have been triggered. Corporate clients, like affected individuals, will look to hold Optus liable for any loss and damage they suffer as a result of the incident.? |

Victim can register here.
https://www.mauriceblackburn.com.au/class-actions/join-a-class-action/optus-data-breach-2022/ Maurice Blackburn is investigating potential legal action against Optus over a major customer data breach involving millions of current and former Optus account holders. What information has been compromised? The compromised customer data includes customers? names, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, and, for a subset of customers, addresses, ID document numbers such as driver's license or passport numbers. |

Optus is facing a class-action style claim over the data breach in which personal information on almost 10 million Australians was stolen, with national law firm Maurice Blackburn lodging a representative complaint with the privacy watchdog.
The complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), which also deals with privacy breaches, is similar to a class action claim in court and allows the commissioner to order compensation en masse to affected people if breaches of privacy law are identified. |

But replacement cost is basic.
What about government penalty and possible class action(many litigation lawyers already seeking those affected)? 100,000 affected. If $1,000 each, that?s is $100M. If $10,000 each, that?s $1B. |

NO NEED TO PANIC - DAMAGE IS NOT DEVASTATING THOUGHT BY MANY IRRESPONSIBLE REPORTS Optus has since clarified that only 100,000 to 150,000 passport details  were stolen in the breach, and that it would bear costs only for unexpired passport holders wanting a replacement. Based on estimates that only 100,000 to 120,000 customers would change their passports, UOBKH has sharply lowered its projections for Optus total passport replacement costs, by A$260 million -- A$310 million to A$22 million - A$34 million, for financial year 2023. These figures are significantly lower than estimates given in previous media reports, which  reckoned  that the cost of the breach & including compensation, legal bills and the cost  of public relations  campaigns & could run as high as US$420 million (S$598 million) to  US$560 million for Singtel.    Accordingly, UOBKH estimates Optus earnings for financial  year 2023 to be impacted by only 4 per cent, versus a previous estimate of 11 per cent.   The research house has therefore kept its rating and target price of $2.90 for Singtel, as
it believes  that the company maintains its strong growth fundamentals, with its other business segments  slated  to benefit from the economy' s ongoing recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. It also noted that dividends for the first half of financial year 2023 are unlikely to be affected. |
