Strong support and accummulation by bb everyday. Share price keep pushing a blt day by day, setting new resistanc level. If next week ops report result good, might see sia breaching it book value 11.11. Highest sia can reach is around 1.1x bk value approx 12.50 then profit taking take hold.

Just sell off SIA, then all high paying management would go as new owner put in their own management team which multi tasked better. Ground people also benefit as high chance new owner would retain them for growth, however all previous benefit would be gone. No tea session or 5 star hotel for flight crew lol.

Well say. Top executives should lead the pay cut or freezing of bonus. Ask the ground ppl to go for unpaid leave is indirectly "pay cut" on the penuts.

Agreed.. asking cabin crew to take no-pay leave is not that effective when your top executives are the largest overhead

Airlines all over the world has been cutting back on employees. The airfare " war" is over, don' t need so many " soldiers" on the ground.

Chop off high paying jobs and problem solved. But it is very difficult to execute as SIA employee are in union and union exert pressure on gov if job cut too harsh. Sell off SIA good for all and very bad for employee as big job cut guaranteed.

Simple solution but politically difficult to execute it. Slash off 30% of workforce and u see SIA return to full profitability before financial crisis. Sell off SIA and let the buyer do the heavy lifting lol, like what happen to NOL. Not surprised if temasek divest off SIA stake to third party, employee all sensing something big coming, 400 take up offer to minimise chance of getting axed lol.

This is a good move, if you are looking at a stakeholder point of view. But of course, to the staff, it is not. It shows the management is looking at various measures to cut costs, and " volunteer unpaid leave" could be one of the options. See, what happened to Genting PLC after they retrenched some of their staff. Their share price has already gone up from below 70 cents to it' s current above 1.10 Sometimes, in order to save the jobs, some will have to lose theirs.

The airline has about 8,200 cabin crew. The last time they were asked to take no-pay leave was after the end-2008 global financial crisis.

National airlines in whichever country never sell cheap/lower fares, relative than other competitor airlines ..... this is the practice in the industry. This is a classic case of having scholars/top-notch academic-results people run businesses   but fear of failure, risk-adverse, You can increase yield but at what-prices you are selling the seats and they cannot just rely on the local population of 5m to be their main-customers esp for biz/1st class, given the wide-array of budget carriers and other attractive fares from competing carriers. Until they solve the simple (and eating humble pie) problem of managing the business of budget-carrier and accept that it will not snow-ball their traditional premium service, this can will be kicked down the road from one head to another ............... and they will sing different tune |

SIA' s parent airline core profit up 64% to $56mThanks to a 4.2pt improvement in load factor. Singapore Airline' s parent airline surprised in the past quarter with an improvement in core operating profit, which reached $56m. According to UOB Kay Hian analyst K Ajith, this 64% improvement in core operating profit is due to the robust growth in load factor. http://sbr.com.sg/aviation/news/sias-parent-airline-core-profit-64-56m I contributed to flying business class to Hokkaido ... but i flew Scoot   :P   |

1q result out, 280mil plus operating profit net profit 235mil. Excluding 1 time divestment gain from sia eng, operating profit surge from 190mil to 280mil. More positive coming as cost cutting move from transformation plan ongoing. Maybe this girl finally start to shine after 10 years of sleep, sleeping beauty. Bte the way yield is low but profit pull up by 5% increase in load factor as seen in june ops report. This show that there still lot of fat that can be cut to boost profit and maximise profit for investors.

40% hedge but the cost saving from 60% unhedged more than offset the losses. Anyway oil hedge just insurance on sudden spike on oil, sia not like cathay which hedge heavily and incur 1b losses on hedge.
