Highlight STI among the cheapest in the region, right time to stock up on blue-chips, says OCBC The Singapore Straits Times Index is among the worst performing stock market indices in the world this year, with most major sectors like offshore and marine, commodities and property having taken a beating. Valued at just 1.1 times price-to-book and 12.7 times price-to-earnings, the STI is now back down to levels last seen in 2008 and 2012, respectively, driven below its historical average by deteriorating earnings on the back of falling demand . At these levels, the STI now carries a dividend yield of 4%, trumping other major indices like the S & P500 and the Hang Seng Index, which fetch yields of 2.1% and 3.5%, respectively. That opens up an opportunity for value investors to pick up quality blue-chips between now and the end of 2015 as trading tapers off towards the year-end, Carmen Lee, head of research at OCBC (Valuation: 2.55, Fundamental: 2.20) Investment Research, told reporters at a press conference today. " Even though earnings have deteriorated, the market has already priced in a lot of negativity at the STI' s current level," Lee says. OCBC forecasts that the Singapore economy could grow between 2% and 3% next year as demand improves and oil prices recover, leading to more interest in Singapore' s blue-chips and potential upside. " This year has been punishing on the blue-chips and going into 2H2016 many funds and high-net-worth-investors are likely to take an interest in Singapore stocks," says Lee. She reckons the property and banking sectors might offer attractive gains in the year ahead and is bullish on CapitaLand (Valuation: 2.60, Fundamental: 1.00), UOL and DBS Group Holdings (Valuation: 2.25, Fundamental: 2.00).   |

![]()   Wall Street indexes flat in pre-holiday lull health, consumer up The major US indexes were virtually unchanged at the close of a quiet trading day on Wednesday with gains in healthcare and consumer stocks after data showed US modest economic growth. Trading volume was low as many market participants were away in the last session before the US Thanksgiving holiday. Markets will be closed Thursday and most of Friday afternoon. " The news this morning was a little better than worse, so the market went up," said Peter Costa, president of Empire Executions Inc, citing mixed economic data. The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI rose 1.2 points, or 0.01 percent, to 17,813.39, the S & P 500 .SPX lost 0.27 points, or 0.01 percent, to 2,088.87 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 13.34 points, or 0.26 percent, to 5,116.14. Data showed claims for jobless benefits fell more than expected to 260,000 last week, while durable goods orders for October, excluding aircraft, increased 1.3 percent, far more than the 0.4 percent expected. However, other reports suggested consumers were not in a spending mood, with consumer spending increasing just 0.1 percent in October compared with the 0.3 percent expected. The University of Michigan' s final index of consumer sentiment for November also fell short of estimates. While investors cited good conditions for consumers, it was cautious about global security issues and the impact from the first US interest rate hike since 2006, which is widely expected to happen in December. " With market valuations where they' re at right now, there' s potential downside if the next data point or global political event is negative," said Jeff Morris, head of US equities at Standard Life Investments in Boston. Traders turned their focus to the crucial US holiday shopping season, which starts around Thanksgiving. " That' s going to be the key, the swing factor for the next couple of weeks - how holiday sales shape up," said Michael Baele, senior portfolio manager at US Bank Private Client Reserve in Portland, Oregon. " When you consider the job market, low energy costs (and) low interest rates, the consumer' s in pretty good shape." Four of the 10 major S & P sectors were higher, with gains in the healthcare .SPXHC and consumer discretionary .SPLRCD sectors leading the way, while the energy .SPNY and utilities .SPLRCU sectors were lower. HP Inc (HPQ.N), the new company that houses the former Hewlett-Packard Co' s printer and PC businesses, dropped 13.7 percent after its profit forecast missed estimates. Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE.N), HP' s corporate hardware and services businesses, rose 3 percent after it maintained its full-year profit forecast. NYSE advancing issues outnumbered decliners 1,852 to 1,185, for a 1.56-to-1 ratio on the upside on the Nasdaq, 1,853 issues rose and 947 fell for a 1.96-to-1 ratio favoring advancers. The S & P 500 posted 17 new 52-week highs and no new lows the Nasdaq recorded 91 new highs and 42 new lows. Just under 5.2 million shares changed hands on US exchanges on Wednesday, well below the 7.19 billion average for the last 20 sessions.   |

All the talks on geopolitical fears on Turkey-Russia issue is but a big bullish to cause retailers to dump shares as both countries needed each other much for trades & tourism.
Now eurozone indices are in the green, yesterday Dow Jones ended in the green & today's future also in the green.

Most Asian Shares Fall Overnight Gains in Oil Lifts Energy Sector - 3rd Update 25 November 2015 15:53 Most Asian markets slipped Wednesday amid escalating geopolitical tensions, after Turkish military shot down a Russian jet fighter, though a rise in oil prices overnight lifted some energy shares in the region. The Nikkei Stock Average closed down for the first time in four days, off 0.4%, at 19847.58, in light trading. The benchmark has risen almost 20% in less than two months. Australia' s S & P / ASX 200 fell 0.6% at 5193.7. Its energy sector rose 0.9%. South Korea' s Kospi lost 0.3% and Hong Kong' s Hang Seng Index fell 0.4%. The Hang Seng' s energy sector gained 0.8%. The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.9%. Crude oil futures steadied Wednesday in Asia amid renewed concerns about a global surplus, after climbing nearly 3% overnight. Metals that sank to multiyear lows earlier in the week also surged overnight, but have pared gains in Asian trading. On Tuesday, Turkey shot down a Russian jet fighter along the Syrian border, an incident that threatens to undercut growing efforts to create a new international coalition to confront expanding Islamic State terrorism. The Middle East is the world' s most prolific oil-producing region, though Syria itself produces very little oil. " While the dispute between Turkey and Russia is unlikely to escalate into a hot conflict, it does underline the unresolved tensions over how to put an end to the unrest in Syria and Iraq," said Angus Nicholson, a market analyst with brokerage IG. " This uncertainty around a further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East has hung heavily over Asian markets. " Australian energy shares gained on the oil-price moves overnight. Santos Ltd. and Origin Energy Ltd. gained 3.5% and 3.1%, respectively, while AWE Ltd. rose 3.4% and Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd. advanced 7.4%. In Hong Kong, oil producers Cnooc Ltd. rose 3.2% and PetroChina Co. rose 0.9%. Oil and gas developer Inpex Corp. rose 1.2%, and oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co. rose 2.0%. In Japan. Rising oil overnight also pressured Asian airline stocks Wednesday, with shares of Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. down 2%, Qantas Airways Ltd. down 1.6% and Japan Airlines Co. 0.9% lower. Asian government bonds gained as investors sought havens assets, and after a rally in US Treasury yields overnight. Australia' s benchmark 10-year government bond yield fell to 2.88% Wednesday from 2.94% a day earlier. Ten-year yields on Thailand' s government bonds fell to 2.76% from 2.82% Tuesday. Yields fall as prices rise. The Japanese yen, another asset sought during geopolitical uncertainty, gained 0.2% against the US dollar Wednesday, at Yen122.23 a dollar. The currency reached its strongest level in more than a week in earlier trading, at Yen122.23 per US dollar. The local currency' s strength pressured shares of Japanese exporters like smartphone parts maker Alps Electric Co., which fell 4.0%, and agrochemicals exporter Nippon Soda Co., which also fell 4.0%. Meanwhile, some metals that surged overnight have retreated. Copper was last down 0.8% from the opening price to $ 4,569 a ton on Wednesday. The London Metal Exchange' s three-month copper contract gained 2.6% to $ 4,608 a metric ton Tuesday, having hit a six-year low earlier in the week. Nickel fell 0.5% to $ 8,740 a ton compared with its open on Wednesday, after closing up 5.7% at $ 8,770 a ton on Tuesday. Mining shares remained under pressure after iron-ore prices lost 1.8% on Tuesday to $ 43.40 a ton, the lowest level in the seven years the Steel Index has been publishing reference prices on the market. Rio Tinto Ltd. fell 0.6%, BHP Billiton Ltd. lost 0.2% and Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. lost 1.4%. Shares of Citic Securities fell 1% in Shanghai and gained 0.5% in Hong Kong, after the Securities Association of China said in a report published on November 24 that China' s largest brokerage overstated its equity swap transactions between April and September by 1.06 trillion yuan ($ 165.9 billion). The association, which is partly overseen by China' s stock regulator, said it is further investigating the case, and will impose punishment if any violation of rules and regulations is confirmed. The region also remains focused on the European Central Bank, which is expected to boost stimulus as it battles low inflation, and the Federal Reserve, which is expected to raise interest rates next month. Brent crude oil fell 0.2% to $ 46.01 a barrel. Oil prices rose in the US following news that the jet had been downed, with US-traded crude 3.2% higher at $ 43.07 a barrel. Gold prices were up 0.5% at $ 1,079.00 a troy ounce.   |

Singapore' s Central Bank Likely to Further Ease Policy 25 November 2015 15:46 BMI Research says the Monetary Authority of Singapore is " increasingly" likely to further ease its Singapore dollar policy. Meanwhile, it adds that the uncertainty over the Federal Reserve' s interest rate policy over the coming year will continue to act as a drag on the Singapore dollar' s peer currencies, despite the fact that Singapore' s own interest rate policy is tied to that of the US central bank . The Singapore central bank eased its currency policy on Oct. 14 for the second time in 2015. BMI Research, a Fitch Ratings company, retains the forecast for the US dollar to end 2015 at S $ 1.4400 versus its current spot rate of approximately S $ 1.4170, and sees the currency rising further to S $ 1.4800 by the end of 2016. " We also believe that the Singapore dollar continues to face broad-based depreciatory pressures that will see it lower over the coming quarters," it adds.     |
