Optus and Singtel' s core fair value including China, Australia, Hong Kong through NCS, a tech subsidiary of Singtel)  is likely about 60 cents per share! Overall value is about $3.40. This does not factor in any fair value of digital banking which will be launched in early 2022.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Relief package for telecom sector: Airtel wins big, stock rises over 4% The stock has gained 43% YTD against 20% jump in RIL and 15% fall in Voda Idea Krishna Kant The relief package announced for the telecom sector is said to be primarily aimed at providing financial relief to Vodafone Idea that is struggling to survive because of mounting losses and a steady decline in subscriber base. The stock market reaction to the government support, however, suggests that equity investors expect Bharti Airtel to gain the most from it. Airtel was among the top-performing index stocks on Wednesday and ended the day with gains of 4.8 per cent against a 4 per cent surge in the share price of Vodafone Idea and a 0.5 per cent rise in Reliance Industries (RIL). With this, the Airtel share price has gained 43 per cent since the beginning of the current calendar year against a 15 per cent decline in the Vodafone share price and a 20 per cent rally in RIL. Airtel closed on Wednesday at Rs 727.5 per share against Rs 421 per share at the end of December 2020. In the same period, Vodafone Idea declined from Rs 9.6 to Rs 9.05 as of Wednesday, while RIL moved up from Rs 2,234 to Rs 2,379.4. PIL is the owner & promoter of Reliance Jio the telecom business accounted for around a third of RIL?s consolidated profits in FY21. Thanks to the rally in its share price, Airtel is now the ninth biggest company at the bourses with a market capitalisation of Rs 3.99 trillion as of Wednesday it briefly crossed the Rs 4-trillion mark (Rs 4.036 trillion) intraday. Two years ago, the company was ranked 15th on the league table with a market capitalisation of Rs 1.88 trillion (September 2019). The relief package should sharply improve the cash flow of Vodafone Idea, giving it breathing space for steadying its operations. But the package will also provide Airtel with the financial flexibility to step up investment in growth plans and get more aggressive in the marketplace. It's the same for Reliance Jio, which is now the most profitable and well-capitalised operator among the three. Analysts attribute the better showing by Airtel to a strong buying interest among domestic and international institutional investors. ?Institutional investors are betting on a sharp turnaround in Bharti Airtel earnings over the next few years due to its strong balance sheet and ability to raise market share as Vodafone Idea loses its subscriber base," says Shailendra Kumar, CIO, Narnolia Securities. This institutional faith has allowed Airtel to raise nearly Rs 1 trillion worth of fresh equity and debt in the past three years the company plans to raise additional equity worth Rs 21,000 crore through a rights issue. In contrast, Vodafone Idea is struggling to raise additional capital. The company last raised equity capital nearly three years ago. Many analysts believe that access to capital and financial headroom provided by the relief package may allow Airtel and Reliance Jio to continue to grab market share from Vodafone Idea. The bet on Airtel?s future has also led to a big gap between its current earnings and market capitalisation. At its current stock price, the stock is trading at 390x its earnings in trailing 12-months, making it one of the most expensive large-cap stocks. Only time will tell if Airtel will be able to deliver the growth in the earnings that investors expect from the company.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	NEW DELHI (Reuters) -- India's federal cabinet on Wednesday approved a relief package for its cash-strapped telecoms sector including a four-year moratorium on airwaves payments due to the government, the country's telecoms minister said. The deferred payments cycle will begin from Oct. 1, telecoms minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told a news conference, giving debt-ridden Vodafone Idea -- which previously said it runs the risk of a shutdown without government help -- more time to pay dues. Shares in Vodafone Idea rose 2.9% on the news, while Bharti Airtel closed 4.5% up in a broader Mumbai market that closed 0.8% higher. Some of the other measures announced in the telecoms package include raising the tenure of airwaves held by firms to 30 years from the current 20 years, waiving the usage charge for airwaves acquired via future auctions, and completely free sharing of spectrum between carriers, Vaishnaw said. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio said the measures will boost growth in the telecoms industry. Vodafone Idea's owners, Britain's Vodafone Group and India's Aditya Birla Group, said the reforms will help unshackle the telecoms sector. India's telecoms sector ran into trouble in late 2016 with the entry of billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio, sparking a price war that has forced some rivals out of the market and turned profits into losses. Vaishnaw said the government was changing the contentious definition of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) to count only telecoms revenue. India had long held that even companies' non-telecoms revenue was part of AGR, leading to a lengthy legal battle which culminated in 2019 with the Supreme Court siding with the government's view and leading to a bill of roughly $13 billion for wireless carriers. All telecoms reforms will be applied going forward and not retrospectively, Vaishnaw said, which means Indian carriers still have to settle billions of dollars in outstanding AGR payments to the government. The measures, which also include a four-year deferral in payments of AGR dues, will likely ease the cash crunch at Vodafone Idea. The Supreme Court had directed companies to clear AGR dues by 2031. Vodafone Idea, a combination of the India unit of Britain's Vodafone Group and domestic telecoms firm Idea Cellular, has paid the government 78.54 billion rupees ($1.07 billion) in AGR dues, but still owes roughly 500 billion. It is saddled with net debt of 1.91 trillion rupees and its billionaire chairman's resignation last month sparked fears that India might be left with just two major carriers. On Wednesday, Vaishnaw said the government did not want a duopoly. "We believe that there should be healthy competition in the sector. And for that there will be further reforms when the 5G spectrum is auctioned out ... so that more and more players can get into this sector," Vaishnaw said. Bharti Airtel has said it paid dues estimated at 180 billion rupees and government figures show it owes a further 259.76 billion. India's newest carrier, Reliance Jio has already paid its small share of AGR dues. As part of the measures, the cabinet also allowed 100% foreign direct investment in the sector via the automatic route, Vaishnaw said, a move that will allow easy investment in the sector without separate government approvals. "The relief comes just in time, and it will, at the very least, assist telecom companies in navigating the market," said Sonam Chandwani, Managing Partner at law firm KS Legal & Associates.
