This electric taxi company is working as part of the govt' s grand plan (see excerpt below). Looking at historical implementation of all our govt' s plans, this will also be implemented speedily. " The 100 cabs it currently has are operating under a special licence as part of an eight-year government test-bed looking into the viability of electric-vehicle business models."

To me electric taxis are just like electric cars, no difference in terms of operations except different fuel source. What are electric cars not popular in Singapore? 1. Cars are more expensive, 2. Cars are heavier, 3. Cars have less boot space, 4. Cars are expensive to repair, 5. Not enough charging points in Singapore, 6. Long charging duration. The only abstract is environmental friendly, bit users didn't really care.

Brand new electric taxi company launching soon. Another few more nails and Comfort' s coffin can proceed straight to Kong Meng San. Bucking industry trend, electric taxi operator HDT plans to bump up fleet SINGAPORE &mdash Amid rapid developments in the taxi industry causing most players to shrink their fleet in the last few months, electric taxi operator HDT is going the other direction by eyeing a multifold expansion in the next four years. Today, 60 to 70 per cent of its drivers&rsquo takings come from Grab rides. Street hails and corporate bookings make up the rest but flagdowns have tumbled by as much as 30 to 40 per cent since last year, Mr Ng told TODAY. When asked how the company plans to recruit drivers if its application to expand is approved, Mr Ng said it would continue outreach to prospective cabbies at the Singapore Taxi Academy, such as those undergoing refresher courses. Referrals from its drivers also help, he added. But it will first have to secure a taxi service operator licence from the Land Transport Authority it aims to file papers by the end of the year. The 100 cabs it currently has are operating under a special licence as part of an eight-year government test-bed looking into the viability of electric-vehicle business models. The company will have to add nearly 300 charging stations to accommodate the 800 extra taxis, so that drivers will find a charging point within a 4km to 5km radius, down from 10km now, he said. Unlike other taxi operators, which rent taxis to drivers, HDT is the first taxi operator here to offer its drivers, who do not pay rent, a basic salary of S$1,600 with benefits, such as Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions and annual leave. With overtime pay, drivers can earn up to S$2,800. On top of that, drivers who reach certain revenue targets will earn bonuses. Good performers are eligible for &ldquo revenue-sharing&rdquo &mdash for instance, those who bring in between S$7,500 and S$8,500 will take home S$450, before CPF. http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/bucking-industry-trend-electric-taxi-operator-hdt-plans-bump-fleet |

Grab will continue to burn cash and their investors know this. The idea is to price out competitors and mine for big data. They have 2billion cash, they burn about 10m per month... They can burn for about 16yrs (assuming revenue stay flat for next 16yrs).... So, don't hold your breath hoping they will stop.

I really don't know why price is going up today?. Could it be because the public can see that Grab is borrowing too much money?

Good thing is that comfort is a self sustaining biz.. aka making profits albeit declining but still large profits as a company. Sad thing is share price is pivoted around market share hype and all the grab and uber stories. Latter two is burning cash like nobody's biz but creating the disruptions perception that is causing CdG a lot of gried

No doubt alot of money is spent on R& D but GRAB has already outlined its plans for the money and that is to build the largest car rental fleet in S.E.A. Consumer patterns change and new HDB towns are popping up. When our rail network is doubled by 2030 and achieves stability (hopefully), most people (8 in 10) will be within 10 mins walk of a MRT station.

My avg is $2.3838. If alliance is successful, price will shoot up at least by 30 cents. If alliance is unsuccessful, price will dropped maybe 20 cents. This counter is interesting. U can earn a lot if u can hold cos there r expansion plans n future.

Many people think Grab is burning money just for market share. What they (and all the other ride hailing apps) are after, I propose, is actually the data generated by their drivers. And then using this data to drive their backend server AI to plot the most efficient use of assets and resources. Just like Alpha Go using games played by Go champions, Grab is capturing the strategies used by their most efficient drivers. This will fuel their next quantum leap - driverless cars. What is Comfort doing with all those data it had/could have captured? |
