It's as serious as 👇
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/japan-kirin-terminate-myanmar-beer-alliance-after-coup-14117312 "Japan's Kirin ends Myanmar beer tie-up with army-owned partner after coup The abrupt end to the alliance is a caution for other Japanese companies, from Aeon to auto-parts maker Denso, whose Myanmar ventures have also been thrown into question after the army takeover, analysts said." |

Phillip Capital lowers Yoma TP to 34 S cents amid Myanmar unrest
PHILLIP Capital on Friday lowered its target price for Yoma Strategic Holdings to S$0.34 from the previous S$0.46, following Myanmar' s recent political unrest.

The brokerage maintained a " buy" call on the stock, but revised its FY21/22 growth forecast from between 5 and 7 per cent to 0 and 2 per cent, taking into account the impact of Covid-19 on the country.

Noting that state telecommunication services were disabled and construction work was halted during the coup, analyst Tan Jie Hui expects Yoma Central' s completion to be delayed.

Additionally, the food and beverage sector is likely to be lacklustre due to weak consumer sentiment, said the analyst, who foresees a 19 per cent dip in the investment company' s FY22 topline.

Further, she predicts weaker investment sentiment and medium-term growth due to the political unrest.

" Although China may continue its investments given that Myanmar is a vital piece of Beijing' s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative, foreign domestic investments as a whole may drop due to political instability," said Ms Tan.

Coupled with the impact of Covid-19 lockdowns implemented from October to December 2020, she has further cut her forecast on Yoma' s FY21/22 earnings by 27 per cent and 35 per cent.

However, she is optimistic about Yoma' s outlook on observations of strong investor support.

" While the coup came as a shock, international lenders and partners have not pulled out their funds. We believe Ayala will proceed with its second-tranche equity investment in the company by May 11, 2021," said Ms Tan, who advised investors to look out for sanctions from foreign nations, investments from Ayala and Ant Financial, and the kyat' s currency movements.

U notice that the business updates always only revealed the revenue but not profitability because overall they still incurred big losses. They still incurred big cash outflow due to expansion, and the cash flow can be sustained till now in a large part due to Ayala cash injection. Given the political turmoil and poor sp, it is uncertain for Ayala to subscribe to the 2nd tranche of share subscription. Even if they willing to subscribe, the term may be renegotiated. All these make Yoma future very uncertain.

I only know it's cashflow will be badly affected, barring miracle development in the coup situation.
Volatility will be high so short term traders will enjoy, but whether long or short, there is potential of positions left open if there is any halt arising from escalation of Myanmar situation. As for long term investors, it may be safer to take some cash first to manage capital risks.

Trading update for 3 months ending 31 Dec 20. Decent developments for Yoma Land and Wave Money. F&B still weak. But these results are pre-coup so don't expect them to sustain. |

Do u know NK supreme leader Kim wealth is roughly US$5bn despite sanctions on NK for yrs? Leaders will be rich no matter how poor the country is. Look at african countries... full of corruption but leaders extremely rich.
This general just want power and rule like CCP. No challenge to his rule. As long as he remain in charge, he and his cronies will be rich.

For Yoma investors, be aware of how current situation will clip its main source of revenue, which is Yoma Land. No foreigner nor local will buy its high end Yoma central apartments or mid end City Loft apartments when jobs are at risk and laws are subject to change.
Yoma had leveraged quite a bit in developing Yoma Central. 2022 was the year that Yoma expects to reap high cash flow from the Grade A offices and Westin Hotel. Without foreigners, this will not materialise. Meanwhile, the debt still must be repaid. Will Ayala continue to take up 2nd tranche at 45 cents? If not, where will the cash injection come from? If Yoma needs to raise cash through rights, will existing shareholders fork out money? KFC and the other F&B businesses are also affected by poor consumer sentiment. Given uncertainties of economy, I expect most Myanmese will tighten their belts and reduce restaurant patronage. Wave Money is so promising a fin tech market leader. But it's fate is precarious under Tatmadaw regime when public trust in institutions plunge. Anyone interested to incur CAPEX to buy Mitsubishi / Volkswagen cars or New Holland agricultural machinery when economy is so uncertain? All the above are only business considerations. There are further political considerations that create macro risks to Yoma as an ongoing entity: *People / monks uprising met with Tatmadaw suppression *Ethnic armies clash with Tatmadaw *Rebellion within Tatmadaw as some generals do not agree with the coup and suppression of people If any of the above happens, Yoma may suspend indefinitely for several months / years. Importantly, is key man Serge Pun going to be strong enough to withstand these? He is 67 this year and spent a life time building up FMI / Yoma empire. What are the best case projections? That this crisis will blow over within a few weeks due to negotiations by China / Japan / ASEAN with the Tatmadaw. Face saving arrangements such as: Eg. Suu Kyi is released as she agrees to hold a news election within 3 months, with international observers from UN and by a new UEC comprising some military reps General MAH gets indemnity against charges of Rohingya genocide Civilian Govt retakes control of the country Not very likely the above will pan out ... |

Ppl look at current situation and the coup really bad for YOMA. If shareholders I can relate to how they feel at all this shit. Never like a company that doesn't give dividend though. If giving dividend at least can sit this one out and wait till recover which could take long.... Just saying
