Absolutely.  You are looking at the result of a distorted marketplace where ridesharing companies are subsidizing the cost to the tune of hundreds of millions (US$462m last quarter for Grab).  Hey, if I open up a chain of durian stores subsizing every durian and selling each at $0.10, you think I won' t dominate the durian market? The only way ridesharing companies can prevail in the long term is if they can raise their prices after booting all competition.  Well, guess what?  Governments are not stupid and have prevented this scenario. Tell us again why Uber and Lyft and Didi are trading way below their IPO price?

Comfort is an " core" asset company to sg in my op, as it controls one of the key logistics. if gov want ot help..v easy grab is sort of out of gov ctrl.... gov wan to sabo... also v easy qn is shld gov help comfort & sabo grab? my opinion... for the sake of sg...YES... Bro, my main point is that : Not only Grab, but the entire ride-hailing concept of "using your own cars as taxis" is a killer of taxi business' renting model. Since any peivate car can be converted for the 'dual-use', PHVs numbers increased very rapidly to be about 5 times of the total taxis in Singapore.
Obviously you have missed my posts much earlier, I have always talked about critical mass. Taxis have lost their critical mass, so we have seen a vicious cycle of "no taxis - no riders - no taxis - no riders' happening and still happening everyday. If you tey to book a taxi or flag for one at a busy time when you must move but no taxi is available for the last 30 mins, would you not book a PHV just 2 minutes from you? Taxis are still defending their last line of defence, that is, taxi stands. They are all there but no more plying the roads. At present, there is an over-provisioned, ie, depite the numbers have shrunk, still too many vis-a-vis riders numbers. This is because government still pays $20 a day to hwlp and taxi companies are still giving 'discounts'. The moment these 'helps' are cut, you will see a massive decline of numbers. The vicious cycle I mentioned will increase its speed to match a drivers-riders-equilibrium. Nevermind that ride-cannot make money. But they wont go away. Zoom Bee's renting model doesnt work any more. We have seen its drop of more than 1,000 taxis a year since PHVs came in. The drop will continue until taxis go extinct in 8 to 10 years.

I did not visit this forum for 1 week and there are so many new additions to this thread! Great traction and interest in CDG. Just some quick thots, Q1 results net at ard 80M (with gov support). Q2 not too good. Assuming we move into Endemic, i would be conservative and not expect ridership to return to pre covid levels of ard net earnings of 110M per quarter. Instead, If we could maintain at 75% of pre-covid lvl, which is ard 80M+ per quarter. The net per financial year would be 300M+ and with a dividend policy of 50%, shareholders earnings per share would be around 0.08+. That should yield us ard 4% dividend at a stock price of $2. Still lots of room to move, and we are moving in the right direction. Enjoy dividends first and happy investing. I see that we have more brothers in arms together in this fire trench. Haha... the trench is getting larger and longer, breaking enemy lines. | ||||

lol .. you seem bent on whatever your mission is :) While it' s true that Grab has hijacked a volume of business from taxi operations, the point is still - so what?  Grab is simply paying out of it' s pocket to subsidise rides in a market with zero loyalty.  Whatever market share they have will just disappear the moment they raise prices to remain afloat.    Alright, let' s say Grab needs to stop bleeding money then the question becomes - at what price?  Estimate for Uber is that customers pay only 41% of the fare.  So for ridesharing companies to stop bleeding, their price needs to at least be 2.5x.    Ok, please think for a moment now.  If Grab raises its fare by 2.5x, do you really think customers will stick around for the " Grab experience" ?  Of course not. Until ridesharing companies can crack the problem of running a non-competitive business, any other debate is frankly, moot.  In the meantime, VCs and other pioneer investors are in a hurry to offload to buy their GCBs.  Grab at $40 billion when it' s still losing 1/2 billion $ per quarter?  Go ahead.

Today you can see that the rebound was extremely wrak. BBs didnt pump because uncles and aunties were exhausted,
scared, broke, stuck. It is like calm before a storm. The closing showed that BBs wanted the retailers to buy at their selling price. The last 5 minutes, the buy wall 1.63 was suddenly built up. Any uncles and aunties hoping to get 1.63 qould have to bet their luck at 1.64 at closing match. Robots are not stupid. As long as there are buyers for 1.64, they can adjust their buy / sell to close at 1.64. I bet you, most sellers of 1.64 at closing were the robots because robots could put in the correct numbers of 1.63 to sell at 1.64 to the retailers.

You are wrong Hollowman.
Expect a massive returning of taxis in October unless the gov extends the $20 rental rebate. As it is, $10 is supposed to expire in Augest, while the other $10 will expire by end-September. Expect Zoom Bee to cut its so-called 35% rental discounts to xx% too. Reopening the domestic market will benefit PHV drivers and not so much taxi drivers because taxis have lost the bulk of their clientele to PHVs in the heartlands.

Agree.  Indeed Grab' s sizable m/share gains since 2016 was purely via money loosing  deep pocket  ( shocking to hear its $10b loss  in 5 yrs ).  Contrary , despite this serious competiton , CDG still very profitable . Like Beng said earlier .....for Grab, only the allures of the platform offering other businesses ie. food delivery / e commerce sounded attractive but the fact is PHV model itself is not an advatange , also not going to drive CDG model to 20cts anytime soon. On contrary , once listed , the only way for Grab seems is to raise their prices a little or further reduce costly promotion.  Other part of biz seems still small/slow to scale profitably. Either way they will likely face the wrath shareholders and could be loosing some m/share back to CDG again .  Improving the convenience of hailing should be quite easily replicated by CDG if need to. On contrary, the days of big salary or many full time PHV drivers is certainly history . Many will be very part timers unlike committed CDG drivers and they will be very costly to be retained let alone stay motivated ? .    .
