20:53 p.m. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing appears on state TV to address the nation. He says the military respects the constitution, and that free and fair elections are key to democratic systems. He says that nobody is above the law, which is basic to any democratic system, according to Reuters. The coup leader says the Union Election Commission used the COVID-19 pandemic as a pretext for not ensuring there was fair campaigning in the runup to the Nov. 8 general election. He says the country is still open to foreign and local investment, and that he plans to support business projects already underway from the last government. He says he will prioritise the National Ceasefire Agreement initiated in 2015 to bring about peace with over a dozen insurgent ethnic groups.

6:00 p.m. Local media reports that a curfew will be imposed in Mandalay and other cities from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m and that assemblies of more than five are banned.

5:10 p.m. Police in the capital, Naypyitaw, warn protesters to disperse or unspecified force will be used against them. Water cannons have already fired in the morning.

2:00 p.m. Local media reports that politically active monkshave been at the head of growing protests in Mandalay, the country?s second largest city. Their followers included Buddhist and Muslim volunteer groups. Teachers and members of the judiciary are also reported to be helping expand civil disobedience.

 Alert Admin 		MANDALAY (AFP, REUTERS, BLOOMBERG) - Myanmar?s junta leader on Monday (Feb 8) called on the public to prioritise facts and not feelings, and said an election would be held and power handed to the winning party, in a rare national address, as martial law was imposed in cities after anti-coup protests nationwide.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, in his first address since a coup a week ago, said the junta was different to previous military governments. Suitable ministers were selected, he said, adding foreign policy would remain unchanged and countries would be encouraged to invest in Myanmar.

Curfew imposed on several cities from 2000 hrs to 0400 hrs. Assemblies of 5 or more are disallowed. Effective immediate till further notice.

 Alert Admin 		Biden has no big stick announcements. Western sanctions will not influence the Tatmadaw as Myanmar have gotten used to zero investments from the west since 2017.

Only China, Japan and ASEAN can influence them. These 3 close partners put their money where their mouth is and invested heavily in Myanmar when others forsake them. Singapore is Myanmar largest investor and China is Myanmar largest trading partner.

1:00 p.m. Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor is suspending operations at its two plants in Myanmar, Nikkei Asia has learned. The company ?wants to assure the safety of the employees,? a representative said. As for its operations from Tuesday onward, the representative said the company will consider it day by day after considering the local situation. Suzuki resumed operations Thursday after two days of suspension in the wake of the coup.

12:48 p.m. Reuters reports that tens of thousands of people across the country have joined the protests.

11:26 a.m. Police in the capital of Naypyitaw use water cannon against protesters, video from a protest scene shows. Police fired short bursts against some of the thousands of protesters who had gathered. Some protesters appeared to have been hurt when they were knocked to the ground. Police seemed to stop using the water cannon after protesters appealed to them, but the demonstration continued.

9:13 a.m. Hundreds of protestors march in Yangon on a third day of demonstrations, Reuters reports. A group of saffron-robed monks marched in the vanguard of the protest, together with workers and students. They flew multicolored Buddhist flags alongside red banners the color of Suu Kyi?s National League for Democracy, witnesses said. ?Release Our Leaders, Respect Our Votes, Reject Military Coup,? said one sign. Many protesters wore black.

8:16 a.m. Opponents of Myanmar?s coup call for more protests and work stoppages on Monday. ?Marchers from every corner of Yangon, please come out peacefully and join the people?s meeting,? activist Ei Thinzar Maung posted on Facebook, using virtual private networks to rally protesters despite an attempt by the junta to ban the social media network. The location and time would be announced later, said the former student leader, who has emerged as one of the faces of the new protest movement.

Few years back, I still remembered I had joint meeting with Melvyn Pun.
He articulate well and express his thought clearly
Yoma cover many important business unit in Myanmar and has good connection with government (past and present)
So I believe their business model should be resiliant and overcome current pandemic and political unrest situation
vested for mid to long term growth

Yoma' s services resume operations amid Myanmar unrest revenue up 0.9% in Q1
MAINBOARD-LISTED Yoma Strategic Holdings said on Sunday that while political developments in Myanmar " have resulted in intermittent disruption" in some of its businesses, many of its services have resumed operations, including Wave Money, KFC and Kospa.
 
" The group believes it still too early to ascertain the longer-term impact of the current political situation on its businesses, and will continue to monitor the situation closely," said chief executive officer Melvyn Pun.
 
In a Singapore Exchange filing, the company gave an overview of its activities in the first quarter ended Dec 31. Group revenue was up 0.9 per cent year on year at US$24.8 million.
 
This was driven mainly by gains in real estate development, making up for falls in revenue from its food and beverage business, as well as motoring.
 
While a second wave of Covid-19 has hit economic activities and consumer spending, Yoma' s real estate and financial services businesses " remained resilient" , it said. Its real estate development arm' s revenue grew 52.5 per cent year on year in the quarter, to US$9.1 million.
 
Revenue fell 29.4 per cent for its food and beverage business, to US$6.3 million, which Yoma attributed to dine-in restrictions in place since September, as well as lower footfall traffic due to lockdowns and curfews amid the pandemic.
 
In financial services, fintech arm Wave Money' s Ebitda " remained positive" - with no figures given - supported by 10.4 per cent growth in revenue from the previous quarter, and a continued focus on cost control measures.
 
Over-the-counter monthly active users grew to more than 3.9 million in December, up from 3.7 million a year ago. Digital monthly active users hit 1.5 million in December, ahead of the targeted 1.3 million, and rose further in January to 2.4 million.
 
" The company will continue to closely monitor the political situation in Myanmar, and provide further updates as and when there are material developments that impact the group' s operations," said Yoma.
