Somemore, you can buy discounted petrol at their fuel kiosks too. Currently islandwide only diesel kiosks, petrol kiosk only one, but CDG is converting most of their diesel kiosks to sell both diesel and petrol, it is work in progress. CDG has a CNG kisok too, so if LCR got CNG-powered cars, can pump cheaper too. | ||||

Heard from 1 ex uber driver....if uber going to fail in sg..is cause by lcr..they never treat their drivers as customers..like owe them money...they never maintain their car...bring her to dark.dark carpark at big box. And pass her the car...she spend 1 day to do the cleansing....this types.of things wont happen in comfort...comfort will request you to attend 3 days foc training on their taxi...after that will give u 1 day to settle ur carpark issues.and familiar with their taxi. and every month u need to send in for servicing ..etc...if kanna accident and taxi send for repair.. they will give u $100 daily to compensate ur income loss...so comfort must take over lcr.and change their culture..lol

I checked online both 20% though. And for lcr's car usage not normal. So i expect profit margin to drop. And whats the point of controlling so many cars? If car is the problem, why not they jusy buy more? This deal looks like uber feels the cars are a burden and gave cdg the condition that they can use the software if they help ahoulder the burden. Surely there are benefits but the cost seems to outweigh the benefit

I have confident that CDG has the capapbilty to solve this problem. CDG not only reapir private cars, it sells spare parts also. All my previous cars who were over 3 years old (after wrrannty expires) were sent to CDG to service and repair. The spare parts of common brand cars (Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hydundai) are self imported by them, never go through agents (Kah Motor, Borneo Motors, Tan Chong, Komoco), and I must say they do a good job at resonable price (25% cheaper than agent), and cheaper than outside, one-man-operated small workshops. They get the spare parts in bulk so have economy of scale so cheaper than outside.  And it is the authorised workshop of accident repairs of many brands of cars too.

Investor look at return and potential. If you believe the return and it?s potential is bigger than those companies, then fine.

$642 mil is the asset value, mostly due to the cars LCR owned.  CDG has options to lease the cars or sell in the open market. Cars easier to sell than properties but depreciates fast too.

I agree with you. By having BOTH taxis and PHVs, CDG effectively CAN manipulate the ratio of taxis to PHVs it wants based on market demand. If this year need more PHVS, then buy more PHVs and scrape more taxis, and vice versa. CDG has the LICENCE to own up to 16,000 plus taxis (it used to own, so it has the LICENCE given by LTA to own), so it can " play" with the number quite flexibly.

PHV is here to stay. They are here to complement Taxi services. CDG objective is to dominate the market. They must have both. Dont rule out CDG buying into a controlling stake in Grab in future. Of course the paying public will not   welcome the idea. Just a recap: CDG is formed with the merger of Comfort, Citycab, Singapore Airport Bus Sevices, SBS taxi, Singapore Commuters.

Btw, are the cars CSU bought affected by this?
PUBLISHEDAUG 4, 2017, 12:34 PM SGTUPDATEDAUG 4, 2017, 11:58 PM FACEBOOK152TWITTERWHATSAPPEMAIL Christopher TanSenior Transport Correspondent SINGAPORE - Only 9 per cent of Uber's fleet of defective Honda Vezel cars have been fixed, according to the Land Transport Authority's records. This contradicts Uber's earlier claim that all its affected Vezels - which could catch fire - had been repaired. The authority added on Friday (Aug 4) that Uber had 1,200 of the affected cars, which were among some 11,000 Vezels imported here. Of the 11,000, 25 per cent have been rectified, an LTA spokesman said. |

Sir, look at this way, the amount paid by CDG is to buy the cars lah. Cars are so expensive in Singapore, you calculate it it is $47k per car, and these are rental-generating cars, not idle cars. (the 1550 idle cars CDG is not buying). I feel it is reasonable for a 3-yer old car, even high mielage, rental-generting car. I' m not sure the rest of comapnies, but I think Breadtalk does not have high-value fixed assets right?

I think one of the main reasons CDG pays to get 51% is to have FULL (or maybe some) control over LCR, you think those non-CDG taxi coys can control Grab' s PHVs drivers? Zero control.  As 4 out of 7 directors of LCR will be from CDG, CDG effectively can make many major decisons on LCR operations.

Shareholders should be questioning why they' re paying such a high price for a car rental company. Hard to see the rationale for them to buy LCR in the first place when they already have taxis idle.

There are many more data and facts we need to consider other than the asset value. Anyway, PHV Drivers would ultimately pay for their cars. Taxis cannot be privately owned, whereas PHV can. Useful lifespan of taxis is 2555 days, private car 3650 days. Market demand for taxis against PHV will change over the years. Surely, with market data gathered, CDG can calibrate the proportional number of taxis and PHV to suit the market. Based on fleet size, almost every other day there will be taxis being scrapped or registered and based on current situation, it looks likely more taxis will be scrapped and not replaced.  Eventually it all boils down to how CDG manage it. And remember LCR is not CDG. And to overcome a $500mil debt is not difficult for CDG. Anyway, to each his own beliefs. Those who dont feel good should just sell off. Those who have the confidence should look out for a good entry opportunity. For me, I will likely wait for a week for sellers to do their unloading,   before buying in gradually. |

Why grab so good..let others taxi companies use their platform without fees??
Because their drivers pay...grab took 10% comm from every job given to taxi drivers...each taxi drivers pay around $30 daily...rem bo free lunch..they why so many drivers refuse to jump ship...now grab offer 60c for comfort drivers to join their phv...but limited time only |

Look at how much uber invested in russia. The russiam taxi firm invested 110 m vs uber's 220m. Shows that uber has commitment in russia because market big. In sg, uber just sell the cars to cdg and the software is like free gift lol. Why cdg need invest about the same amount compared to the russian deal when the market size is so different?
Also sure the high mileage means the vehicles are used well, but it complicates maintenance, so cdg's engineering arm many not earn as much from normal cars now since the maintenance cost now would be higher. Overall personally, just dont seem right for cdg to invest half of its cash when uber seems to benefit more without paying. Look at what grab offered to the remaining taxi firms. Cdg could have gotten the same deal with grab without paying but may be management hope to remain leader position and lost the opportunity? Paying 300m to now for a missed opportunity

To give you a sense: CDG value Lion at $642m. As comparisons:
Breadtalk is $400m Mindchamp is $200m Koh Bro is $150m Jumbo is $365m Noble $170m Do you really believe a car rental company can fetch this valuation?
