Hyflux forecasts end to Middle East desalination doldrums Following its recent landing of its first major Middle Eastern municipal water contract in five years, Singapore water treatment firm Hyflux said it anticipated demand in the region to accelerate. Hyflux has indicated that it expected the intense political uncertainty that has stymied water treatment growth in the region to succumb to the power of demand. " Pent-up demand in the Middle East and Africa is driving the revival of water infrastructure projects," said Hyflux' s executive chairman and group chief executive, Olivia Lum, according to the Nikkei Asian Review. Lum highlighted an increase in the number of projects coming up for tender in the second half of 2014, and said Hyflux was eager to bid for new opportunities. Hyflux in December 2014 secured the rights to develop and operate a seawater desalination plant in Qurayyat, near Oman' s capital, Muscat in a US$ 250 million deal. Hyflux will design, build and run a 200 Ml/d reverse-osmosis seawater desalination facility for public supply through the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company for 20 years. It is scheduled to start up in May 2017. |

Singapore firm Hyflux has been awarded a US$250 million contract to design, build, own and operate the Qurayyat 200,000 m3/day desalination project in Oman. Hyflux fought off stiff competition for the reverse osmosis (RO) project, with bids from six groups including Abgengoa and Acwa Power. Government owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) awarded the contract for the independent water project (IWP). Together with the National Power and Water Co, Hyflux is scheduled to commence operation of the plant by May 2017 under a 20-year water purchase agreement with OPWP. Hyflux' s role includes turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as operation and maintenance of the plant. The project is not expected to have a material financial impact on Hyflux for the financial year ended 31 December 2014. If you all free, drive to Tuas South to see their plant. At least you are able to see the physical assets of what Hyflux has, there is reason why the CEO office need to be relocate there. China counters are full of shit! |

poor thing kena throw down the drain. but surely there is a base somewhere. the risk is middle east. risk of change in garment like libya, risk of ISIS splinter. long gestation period of investment. consolation is over time when the plant build cost is recovered then it is like a cash cow. wonder how loing they take to recover the cost for each project? |

Water is precious! So I wonder why Hyflux price is on a downtrend. Is the technology used by Hyflux easily carried out by other companies which will compete Hyflux on efficiency? So fundamentally, how is Hyflux compared to its competitors. |
