What i find out is that ? Singapore Airlines is currently hedged at $76/barrel on 80% of their total oil requirements until March, and with the current market price at $33/barrel, the airline is essentially paying more than double the prevailing market price. ?
I believe SIA entered into futures contract with oil hedging company. Currently, they are obliged to pay more than market price which will result in more expense and drop in profit. Vested at short position. HUAT!

I' ve been wondering for a long time, if the paper hedge comes due but the amount hedge exceeds the fuel SIA requires because of the now pandemic covid19, does SIA still need to take delivery of the fuel physically? Or is this hedge all paper play only i.e. only need to pay the difference to the market maker?

SIA is in a very very terrible position now. High costs ie pilot salaries and idle planes, and overheads, and no revenues coming in. Doomsday scenario for SIA. | ||||

Of course. This is different from Sars or even 9-11. The covid-19 affects the entire continents as compared to other black swan events. Airlines will suffer big times, some of them may even need the government to bail out eventually.

quite bad i think. but they at least started sale effort. thos restaurants that has one for one or other value sale was able to attract people back in. although australia and nz are infected countries, but the spread there seems milder than other places. maybe due to their end summer- start authmn weather. |

If oil price war continue beyond end march, will SIA have to mark to market their oil hedges for Q1 results? in the first place SIA still reporting quarterly or not? I nremember reading many companies announced on SGX to stop quarterly reports.

All the oil hedge going to lose money again as oil price drop so much.
I said many times, sia should focus on its core business not hedging. Very simple logic, if they are so good in hedging, why bother to sell ticket to earn that few hundred dollar a time?
