New ship will be a sister ship to Seven Seas Explorer MARCH 31, 2016 ? Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) have reached an agreement for the construction of the second ultra-luxury cruise ship for the Regent Seven Seas Cruises brand. The contract, which is worth euro 422 million (about $478 million), is effective immediately and all conditions have been met. The new vessel will be delivered in 2020 and will be a sister ship to Seven Seas Explorer, set for delivery later this year from Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente (Genoa) shipyard. The 54,000 gt, 223 m ship will have some 370 spacious passenger suites. Like her sister ship, the new vessel will incorporate the latest environmental protection technologies. Interiors will be particularly sophisticated, with every attention paid to passenger comfort. "When we began conceptualizing Seven Seas Explorer a little over four years ago, we knew from the onset that she would be something special and make an immediate and lasting impression in the marketplace," said Frank Del Rio, President and Chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. SINGAPORE (April 1): OCBC Investment Research believes that the negatives have been largely priced in for VARD Holdings after the significant declines the designer and shipbuilder of offshore and specialised vessels has suffered, and has upgraded the stock to ?hold? from ?sell?. Since the broker?s ?sell? report in May last year, VARD shares have lost about 65% of their value. This compares with a 37% decline by the FTSE Oil and Gas Index and a 25% fall by the FTSE Maritime Index. OCBC notes that it was not surprising that 2015 was the group?s first year of loss after the 2008 financial crisis, given that VARD was facing the twin challenges of a severe cyclical downturn in its core OSV market and having to manage its troubled Brazil operations. The broker, like the rest of the market, remains concerned about potential impairments that may occur, as well as potential vessel deferments and cancellations. It has lowered its fair-value estimate from 33 cents to 20 cents, after taking into account the low valuations that stocks in the sector are trading at and cutting VARD?s valuation from 0.6x to 0.4x P/NTA. | ||||

Vard Holdings (SGX: MS7) designs and constructs specialised vessels for use in offshore oil and gas exploration. The company, which is currently priced at S$0.205 a share, is closer to its 52-week low of S$0.126 than its corresponding high of S$1.17. It seems that Vard is cheap. But is it cheap enough to be a value share? the company has grown its revenue over the last three years, its net income has fallen over the same period. Less encouraging is the fact that Vard has failed to pay a dividend since 2011. This makes it impossible to gauge the value of Vard on this measure. Whilst it hasn?t been paying investors, Vard seems to have been reinvesting its profits. Since 2012, Vard has added more than 50% to its total asset value. This has left the company priced at around 90% of its book value, which should provide a good margin for safety. Vard has enough current assets to cope with its liabilities. It would seem at first glance that Vard is a company in reasonable financial health, which has, perhaps, been unfairly discounted. But that depends on a change in fortunes in relation to a volatile oil industry. |

VARD Designed Antarctic Icebreaker for Chilean Navy Vard Holdings Limited, a designer and builder of offshore and specialized vessels, announced that its subsidiary Vard Marine has secured a new contract for the Vard Holdings Limited, a designer and builder of offshore and specialized vessels, announced that its subsidiary Vard Marine has secured a new contract for the design of one Antarctic icebreaking vessel for the Chilean Navy. The contract value is approximately ?4 million. Vard Marine, a consulting naval architecture and marine engineering company, has been awarded the contract by ASMAR Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Company to design an Antarctic icebreaking vessel for the Chilean Navy. The contract calls for Vard Marine to develop the basic design of the ship that will be constructed at the ASMAR shipyard in Talcahuano, Chile. The vessel will be capable of operating throughout the Southern Ocean with services to include logistic support, search and rescue missions, scientific research, and resupplying bases in the Chilean Antarctic Territory. The new vessel will be approximately 125 meters in length with a displacement of over 13,000 metric tons, a total complement of 155, and installed power of 14.5 MW to permit breaking one meter of ice at two knots. The vessel is designed to carry a wide range of containerized and vehicle cargo helicopters and rescue boats for logistics/SAR missions, as well as the ability to undertake a broad range of scientific data gathering activities.
