x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Analysts upbeat on Keppel&rsquo s transformation story despite lower 1HFY2026 earnings No thanks to impairment made on its non-core assets and other one-off items, Keppel reported earnings of $154.7 million in 1HFY2026, down 59% y-o-y. Besides $165 million booked for writing down the value of its legacy rigs, Keppel took a haircut too for the value in some of its investment properties, as well as M1, whose sale to Simba was aborted. However, analysts are staying positive on this counter as they train their sights on the ongoing progress made by the company from an old-school conglomerate into an integrated, fee-collecting asset manager of new growth industries called &ldquo New Keppel&rdquo . To mark confidence in its prospects, Keppel has kept its interim dividend at 15 cents for the half year, despite the lower bottom line. In the same six months to June, New Keppel reported core profit of $530 million, a jump of 25%, driven by a combination of higher operating income and fair value gains. Infrastructure division as anchor Keppel&rsquo s infrastructure remains what Ho Pei Hwa of DBS Group Research calls the &ldquo anchor&rdquo segment, with net profit up 55% y-o-y to $538 million, helped by gains from the stake disposals of Keppel Merlimau Cogen and 800 Super Holdings and higher Keppel Infrastructure Trust distributions. Operating numbers were lifted by $13 million as Sakra Cogen commenced operations in May. Keppel&rsquo s other key business segment, connectivity, saw net profit increase to $77 million on gains from customer commitments for two Bifrost fibre pairs and higher Keppel DC REIT contributions. Two further subsea systems are under discussion and a decision is expected by the end of the year. Real estate, meanwhile, swung to a net loss of $19 million, from $98 million a year earlier. Ongoing asset monetisation Keppel will keep investors interested with its ongoing asset monetisation of $1.7 billion already seen this year to reach $2 billion this year. Ho believes that pace, however, can pick up next year with the &ldquo highly anticipated&rdquo divestment of Keppel South Central worth about $2 billion. Looking beyond this, the bulk of the non-core assets are real estate-related assets to be monetised over the next four years. She expects decent divestment gains for residential projects as most of the landbank was acquired more than a decade ago at low prices. Ho is forecasting New Keppel&rsquo s core profit to hover around the $1 to 1.1 billion mark, as fee-based, recurring income grows to offset moderating power spreads in the infrastructure segment. She notes that Keppel&rsquo s funds under management (FUM) have already cleared its $100 billion interim target ahead of the 2026 timeline and is set to double this amount by 2030. With that, Keppel can enjoy a steadier and better-quality earnings base and dividend payout as spreads normalise from the highs of recent years, says Ho, who has maintained her &ldquo buy&rdquo call and target price of $13.30, or 2.3 times P/B, which she justifies with the new direction Keppel is heading. On top of the interim dividend of 15 cents, which has been held steady from last year despite lower earnings, Ho is projecting Keppel to pay a final dividend of 19 cents, plus a special dividend of 10 cents, possibly bringing FY2026 total to 44 cents, which implies a yield of 4%. Lim Siew Khee and Meghana Kande of CGS International figure that with the progress of monetisation, a special dividend of 11 cents can be expected. They note that out of the $13.5 billion targeted by Keppel for divestment over 2025 to 2030, $3 billion has been announced to date. &ldquo This implies potential &lsquo dry powder&rsquo for asset recycling of $2 billion to 3 billion per year through 2030, with scope for a higher target if M1 is divested in 2026,&rdquo state the analysts, who have kept their &ldquo add&rdquo call and $13.52 price target. Potential divestments Besides the planned sale of M1, which Keppel CEO Loh Chin Hua says is still intact, other potential divestments include real estate assets to be sold to funds or insurance companies, the newly completed Keppel South Central and Keppel Bay Plot 6 as well as a 49.9% stake in Floatel, which in FY2025 is carried at a book value of US$721 million. Paul Chew of PhillipCapital has similarly held on to his bullish view, with a &ldquo buy&rdquo call and target price of $13.80. Chew expects the current second half of the year to be stronger operationally, with boosters such as the new Sakra power plant with capacity fully contracted and increasing. The jump in FUM will also begin to contribute to asset management fees. Operations and maintenance will gradually rise from the &ldquo massive&rdquo order book and Bifrost cable installations. Chew estimates the special dividend to amount to at least 6 cents per share from proceeds of the realisable divestments. At the results briefing, Keppel announced M1 is undergoing cost-cutting plans to make it more appealing to buyers. However, Chew warns that &ldquo industry economics may be deteriorating even faster.&rdquo
