I can see many here and you are one of them We all know that no MRT operators can make money with only income from the fares even during the best years when people had to stand in the train barely an inch from one another. But as our loving PM said, there is no way that we can return to the pre- Pandemic times. Under the Bus Contracting Model, operators suvive with life-lines from the gov supplying them with tax payers' money. Profit is guaranteed by contracts hence it has nothing to do with the Pandemic. The real threat comes from public opinion which can turn against the idea of paying too much tax money to allow it to throw 2 big dividend parties a year, at SBS level and at HQ level. Bus fares is due to go up immediately while there are already talks in town about GST hike next year. If SBS has to be delisted (like SMRT) or stop throwing dividend parties to satisfy the tax payers, it will have to. I will talk about Taxie tomorrow. SIA is a National Airline held in majority by Temasek and the gov will not let it fail. Zoom Bee is just a taxi company holding a public transport contractor and is not vested by any big fund except Black Rock (7%?). Its contract with the SG gov is due for renewal by 2026 and there is no guarantee that it will be renewed. The immediate risk is its Australian business which it has gone in very big. You must pray that Australia wouldnt adopt the bus contracting model FOREVER. We have seen how Hyflux, which provided the most essential product to several gov, failed, and no gov lended a hand to help. Would any one help Zoom Bee if it lands into trouble? This will happen when, 1 Australia implement Bus Contracting Model 2. SBS Transit get delisted due to public pressure to stop its dividend party 3 SMRT to take over all the public transport jobs to help save tax-payers' money.
