Both Singtel and Starhub have been making new lows quarterly. In fact, Singtel has hit a new low recently just before CEO announced retirement. And starhub is an even smaller company that was even earlier kicked out of STI than SPH. None of the stocks on SGX are out of the woods, not yet. |

I should had bought Singtel and Starhuband at least I know the fall can be rebounded from lows...and not making NEW LOWS EVERY QUARTERLY..

I would like to encourage such enterprising spirit in my children. Maybe SPH can start a new program to train our future generation how to evolve and finally transform the world. But perhaps, SPH can start this process in transforming itself. And it begins not with management, but with shareholders!

I know one genius who was at school with me who could turn this ship around, but do not know if he is still there. But anyway, i just wanted to say that whatever happens, SPH will be close to my heart and I have no regrets being a co-owner with you. I am sure that 1 cent dividend will be sufficient for now to buy a cup of coffee or tea and share with loved ones. | ||||

To capture the market, you need to know the needs n trends of the newer generations..U need to evolve, adapt and change quickly and stay ahead of the competition..To stay n lead in the frontline...what u need is a brain child that can steer...A lot of multi billion firms start out from car garage n a computer n an internet...it takes a genius nothing n turn it into billions... | ||||

Yes like you i get latest news by internet. I buy a copy of ST or BT if I wanted to keep newspaper cuttings of key data. And online shopping has almost replaced window shopping. We have top brains in SPH, good editors and journalists. Their writings shape thought and minds. In the past, I got my assessment papers from the newspapers and wrote my answers on newspapers. Its different now. But SPH does have potential to remould itself if we let some new blood take over. | ||||

The World is evolving very fast and dynamic..Retailers traditional or brick n motar need to evolve n change their mode of operations to stay relevant n afloat with those e-commerce retailers...it's been years n my online purchases has covered almost 80% of my household expenditure..I can buy at over 10-30% lower price items of similar via online...it's also true for news..I read all my free latest news via the internet nowadays..been decade since I bought my last copy of newspapers.. | ||||

This being said, I would hold my shares and keep still and wait as this is free. I did not borrow to buy this share. It has done me good over the past 13 years by giving me a good fat bonus in December. Now no longer, that bonus has been trimmed by 90%. I will not fly so often. Cannot anyway now. | ||||

SPH is more looking like a Reit these days. It is very asset heavy, increasingly so with its recent property acquisitions. Gone are the days when it can make large profits with lesser assets. As Rocketman has noted, unless its media business really recovers, SPH is going to be a ship that is weighed down and not able to launch out.

I am more concerned about SPH's long term debt has risen over recent years. Their interest repayments will be quite high over the coming years. Will this drag down their results? | ||||

Yes, paper losses are accounted for also in SPH and this was reflected in their FY 2020 report. Paper losses in their property mainly accounted for their first full year loss.

Paper loss is very Real and its not just u don' t sell means u ok.. this only applies if the share price manage to rebound back until u cover back your loss.

SPH Reits at 82 cents is good price. Better dividend payout compared to SPH.
