Marco Polo Marine' s former executive chairman to purchase 121.8 mil shares in the company at 3.3 cents apiece

Lee Wan Tang, the former executive chairman of SGX-listed Marco Polo Marine, has entered into a share purchase agreement on Aug 21 to acquire 121.8 million shares in the company at 3.3 cents apiece.

The transaction is expected to be completed on or before Oct 31.

Following the purchase, Lee will hold a direct stake of 148 million shares, or 4.19% of the company&rsquo s total share capital, from 0.75% previously.

Lee&rsquo s purchase will value Marco Polo Marine at $106.2 million.

Including the Lee family&rsquo s interest held through Nautical International Holdings, the family will become the largest shareholder of Marco Polo Marine with a total shareholding of 19.7%, upon the completion of the transaction.

The Group is pleased to announce that it recorded an improvement in operational performance YoY for 3QFY2022. Both its shipyard and ship chartering segments experienced tremendous growth and recorded a stronger revenue and gross profit. Revenue increased more than 130% and 70% respectively for 3QFY2022 and 9MFY2022. 3QFY2022 and 9MFY2022 Gross profit also increased 185.3% and 111.9% y-o-y to S$9.7 million and S$17.8 million respectively.

Marco Polo Marine Q3 revenue up 140% on shipyard, ship chartering growth

INTEGRATED marine logistics company Marco Polo Marine : 5LY +3.33% saw its revenue for the third quarter ended Jun 30 rise 139.5 per cent year on year.

This comes on the back of more ship repair activities, stronger demand from end customers and an increase in capacity following the completion of extension works on its Dry Dock 1 in Q2 2022.

Gross profit also rose 185.3 per cent to S$9.7 million, up from S$3.4 million previously, as both the shipyard and ship chartering segments experienced " tremendous growth" , the group noted in a business update on Thursday (Aug 18).

" During the quarter, the group also observed a growth in market share due to an increase in demand. The group' s shipyard was operating near full capacity at an average utilisation rate of 86 per cent in Q3 2022," it added.

For the ship chartering segment, demand for vessels remains strong, driven by both the oil and gas and offshore windfarm sector, the group said.

The jump in revenue was also due to a significant increase in average charter rates, rise in average utilisation rates for vessels, as well as consolidation of revenue from Indonesian shipping agency company PT Pelayaran Nasional Bina Buana Raya and Taiwan-based offshore renewables service firm PKR Offshore - in which the group holds a 70.7 per cent and 49 per cent stake - respectively.

The group expects a strong finish to the year on the back of rising demand from end customers for both the shipyard and ship chartering segments, the filing noted.

This is the first quarter where contributions from recent acquisitions have positively impacted the group' s top and bottom line, according to chief executive officer of Marco Polo Marine, Sean Lee.

" The offshore windfarm sector continues to present tremendous opportunities for the group. By tapping on our proven track record, the group is looking to expand both its geographical presence and services provided for the offshore windfarm sector," he said.

Marco Polo Marine:

Strong Q1 comments on Shipyard operations and Ship chartering segments. Apart from these, the group has many new ventures:

Firstly, a new venture to Co-Develop Service Operation Vessel and Commissioning Service Operation Vessel to support offshore wind farms together with leading green tech ship design company Seatech Solutions International.

It will co-develop two new specialised offshore wind service, operation and maintenance vessels which will be future-ready with hybrid battery based energy storage systems (ESS), and drone-equipped capabilities.

These features will cut fuel consumption and emissions by up to 15%-20% as compared to a non-diesel electric hybrid vessel.

Next is an acquisition. Marco Polo Marine successfully completed its acquisition of Taiwan-based PKR Offshore The acquisition is expected to boost the Group&rsquo s presence in the Taiwan which is positioned to become one of Asia&rsquo s most prolific offshore wind market.

The acquisition gets the group a step closer to its goal of having 40% of its vessels service Taiwan&rsquo s offshore windfarm sector by end of FY2022.

Lastly, the Group also ventured into Green Ship Recycling at its shipyard in Indonesia.
