one of warren buffett' s fav indicators is ROE, and dbs has one of the highest in the region about 17++, so as long as this roe moves in tandem with P/B ratio, i think i m still ok with my investment. | ||||

Agreed that it is getting scary looking at the rise of DBS .....esp P/B value is over 2 . However, with the growth of DBS and overall Singapore ( esp this year) ....the book value should rise too . Further this growth is also focusing into NON interest rate areas ....like funds and other fees. Barring any major external global events ...I think DBS and even UOB or OCBC could see good growth under this stable governement . Happy investing.

if i remember correctly, either lky or lhk mentioned that the property arms of the respective banks should entirely be sperated from the parent banking firm dbs land., took heed of the advise and severe from dbs group ocbc used to have a ocbc land though its not listed, so its not so affected but UOL, the majority shareholders are still the wee family and listed on sgx. so sometimes just dunt need to take heed of the politcal masters' advise or directives, these are too big too fail kinda of companies in sg so whethers its 3 big locals or 2 locals. to me or maybe to most shareholders, as long as dbs is growing and div payout is handsome, the ROE still reaching 20s, i m totoally fine with whatever arrangements they have in store for us strictly my opionion, and no offense to anyone

LKY mentioned many years back that he preferred to see only 2 local banks. While there is a possibility of weakest among the three being taken over, there is also a chance of a merger between DBS and Standard Chartered. Afterall, Temasek is the biggest shareholder of both banks. Though not in the near future, likelihood of it happening cannot be ignored. Anyway, above is purely my speculation, no concrete evidence la.
