strong support on good volume, chance to break through the 2.50 barrier first.  formation is pivotal today - guess whether it will shoot up or get shot down tomorrow!    | ||

Hope the 2.50 barrier will be broken tomorrow - the real obstacle is the 2.60 mark.    Once that one is broken, it' s $3 very fast.  | ||

When Singtel won the DB here, price shot up but then came down fast. Win DB in own turf, market also no confidence, even if win DB in Malaysia, how to believe market will react positively? | ||

Climb to $3.00 was interrupted by Omicron but it looks like that will likely no longer be a hindrance.  hope to see $2.50 within these few days, then the next target is $2.60  |

Good morning~~ one more week to CYN... 2 years ago this banana stock was S$3... it was pre-covid before the infamous free fall in March 2020. Last year same time it was S$2.4... Today it is still S$2.4+... ... Those who still hold S$3 might need to wait further...lol~~  |

Singtel takes 16.3% stake in Indonesia' s Bank Fama for $47 million
Singtel has acquired a 16.3 per cent stake in an Indonesian bank for 500 billion rupiah (S$47 million) in cash, as part of its plans to pursue banking opportunities in the country.

In a bourse filing on Friday (Jan 21), the telco said its wholly owned subsidiary Singtel Alpha Investments has taken up 2.4 billion new shares issued by Bank Fama International.

Fama' s investors include Nasdaq-listed digital services player Grab, which is also in a joint venture with Singtel to operate a digital bank in Singapore.

Singtel noted that Indonesia' s population is the most unbanked and underbanked in South-east Asia, and expects that its investment will develop Fama' s digital banking proposition and drive greater financial inclusion.

The net asset value of Fama was 1.04 trillion rupiah as at Jun 30, 2021. It is majority-owned by a subsidiary of Indonesian media and technology conglomerate Elang Mahkota Teknologi.

The Grab-Singtel tie-up was awarded a digital full-bank licence in Singapore in 2020. In July 2021, the joint venture also applied for a digital banking licence in Malaysia.

The Fama acquisition was funded via internal sources, said Singtel.

Now it is clear Singtel is pursuing digital banking in ASEAN, partnering Grab in Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia.   Next up is Thailand and Philippines where Singtel already has strong presence in. Apart from digital bank which would provide Singtel with platform to scale to both subscribers and non-subscribers, I am also looking forward to its business update around 10 Feb - 3 weeks away. We want to see its progress in (1) monetising 5G, in (2) capturing IT solutioning market in China/Australia via NCS, its (3) green data centre expansion as well as (4) divesting of non-core assets to realise value (Optus cables, Trustwave etc).   Regional associates operating performance are confirmed good and solid. Wait for its re-rating upwards.

ACQUISITION OF A MINORITY INTEREST IN PT BANK FAMA INTERNATIONAL Singtel Alpha Investments Pte. Ltd. (&ldquo Alpha&rdquo ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications Limited (&ldquo Singtel&rdquo ) has acquired 2.4 billion new shares issued by Indonesian Bank, PT Bank Fama International (&ldquo Fama&rdquo ) for a cash consideration of IDR 500 billion (~S$48.0 million) (the &ldquo Acquisition&rdquo ). This represents an equity interest of approximately 16.26% in Fama. The cash consideration was determined through a privately negotiated process and was funded via internal sources. The unaudited net asset value of Fama as at 30 June 2021 was IDR 1,040 billion (~S$99.8 million). Singtel also has a digital banking joint venture in Singapore with NASDAQ-listed Grab Holdings Limited (&ldquo Grab&rdquo ), and this Singapore joint venture has applied for a digital banking licence in Malaysia in July 2021. Singtel is investing in Fama to pursue banking opportunities in Indonesia. Fama is majority owned by a subsidiary of Elang Mahkota Teknologi Tbk, an IDX listed conglomerate in Media and Technology. Grab is also an investor in Fama. Indonesia is home to ASEAN&rsquo s largest unbanked and underbanked population. With their strong track record in financial services and lifestyle services, the investors will bring significant capabilities and insights from an extensive customer base to develop Fama&rsquo s digital banking proposition and drive greater financial inclusion. This latest investment in digital banking is consistent with Singtel&rsquo s strategic reset of riding digital growth trends to build sustainable new businesses across Asia, particularly in markets where the Group has a strong presence. Issued by Singapore Telecommunications Limited on 21 January 2022 |
