DBS kept at ' buy' by RHB with higher target price on widening NIM 11/04/19, 12:10 pm RHB still has a &ldquo buy&rdquo call on DBS, with a higher target price of $29.60 from $28.80 previously. This is based on a 2020F price-to-book ratio of 1.43 times, giving a 10% upside and a 4% FY19 yield. In a Wednesday report, analyst Leng Seng Choon says, &ldquo We believe our long-term ROE assumption of 13.5% (vs 2018&rsquo s 12.2%) is achievable given greater NIM expansion in 1H19 on top of digitisation-driven cost efficiencies. We spoke with DBS&rsquo s management &ndash key takeaways are highlighted in this report.&rdquo In February, the management guided for 2019 NIM to be 4-5 bps wider than 2018&rsquo s. Home mortgage interest rates, which are pegged to fixed deposit rates or Fixed Deposit Home Rate (FHR), saw increases in January and March, which had a significant effect on the bank as half of its home mortgages are FHR-based. &ldquo We should see some NIM widening in 1Q19 arising from the January mortgage rate rise. The March mortgage rate rise will likely raise NIM from 2Q19 onwards,&rdquo says Leng. Meanwhile, the rising SIBOR is expected to help raise lending yields for business loans. In 1Q19, 3-month SIBOR averaged 1.92%, higher than the 1.73% average in 4Q18 and 1.63% in 3Q18. Since business loan repricing typically lags by about three months, the business loans&rsquo lending yields would have risen in 1Q19, with more increases expected in 2Q19. On the other hand, home mortgage growth home mortgage growth is weak but growth from business lending is expected to stay respectable. The management has guided for a mid-single digit 2019 loan growth. The management has also in February guided for 2019 ROE of 12.5% compared to 12.1% in 2018, assuming no FFR hikes in 2019. W trump going into election ...its UNLIKELY int rate will change this year ( which was what Feb has say to remain at current level ) Even ( if only ) ....a change in one qtr at most wld NOT mean much to banks . On the other NIM has alrdy rise with INCREASES in loan to customer for all the 3 banks .( I am sure many has recieved the letter w outstanding loan) Further ....wealth mgt is still doing v well . Certainly no surprise that banks can n wld enjoys another 2/3 qtr of profit. Dyodd.

Actually, I just checked SIBOR the other day. Still quite bullish (to my dismay cos it means interest on my hsing loand might go down anytime soon). So, this qtr result likely to remain buoyant, even if fee income cld come in lower. But going forward, maybe SIBOR might slip, n that' s when NIM cld take a hit.

I understand all three local banks are net lenders. If the Fed does indeed cut rates rather than hiking them, how would the NIM growth of DBS be affected? At 27 DBS is still offering 4.5% yield ....certainly not bad for a $5B nett income annually blue chip . ( I am NOT saying it will b $40 or as some claim even a $100....w no time frame ) ......But what if there is a bonus issue in the next 2 yrs ......now wld $40 sound reasonable ? ( dyodd) So some other forum may laugh ( correct at this moment ) ....but nver know who laughs last IF bonus do come up. /LOL Happy investing .....awaiting $600 per 1000 shares dividend for many .

MAS sees no impropriety by DBS in Hyflux bond sale MON, APR 08, 2019 - 1:41 PM Singapore' s financial regulator said it hasn' t uncovered any impropriety by DBS Group Holdings Ltd in arranging the sale of securities by troubled Singaporean water and power company Hyflux Ltd in 2016. DBS, South-east Asia' s biggest lender, complied with regulatory requirements as both manager and distributor of the perpetual securities, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said on Monday in a reply to Bloomberg questions. Hyflux last week scrapped a pact with its would-be saviour SM Investments Pte after disputes. The group of Indonesian businessmen agreed last year to rescue Hyflux in return for a majority stake, and the development prolongs the plight of about 34,000 retail investors who stand to lose almost everything. " As the issue manager, DBS conducted due diligence checks to ensure that material information relating to Hyflux was highlighted in the offering document," the MAS said. While distributing the bonds via its automatic-teller machines, the bank also reminded investors to read the disclosure documents before making their applications, the regulator added. " All investments carry risks," the MAS said.
