The headlines look decent relative to the chaos in Myanmar.  No breakdown was given but it is likely that Yoma started to sell its land bank to raise cash for ops. This is why Yoma Land registered high revenue growth.  As long as there are buyers for its land bank, it is a life saving line for the company.  But likely th selling price is low based on current buyers' market.

Yoma Q3 revenue up 2.1% flags ' severe impact' on business from third Covid-19 wave in MyanmarMainboard-listed Yoma Strategic Holdings posted a 2.1 per cent on-year growth in revenue to US$19.6 million for the third quarter ended June 2021, from US$19.2 million a year ago, boosted by strength in property sales. The Myanmar-based group, however, warned that new measures implemented amid the third Covid-19 wave in Myanmar will likely have a " severe impact" on the group, especially in its food and beverage (F& B) and motor segments, it said on Wednesday in its business update for the quarter. In a bourse filing, Yoma Strategic said revenue from its property segment, Yoma Land, gained 30.9 per cent to US$8.9 million from US$6.8 million a year ago, boosted by construction activities at StarCity and new land sales at Pun Hlaing Estate. Revenue from financial services, F& B and motor segments, however, contracted in the quarter. Yoma Financial Services declined by 10.5 per cent to US$1.7 million from US$1.9 million a year ago, and it expects growth for vehicle rental service Yoma Fleet will be " curtailed in the near term until additional funding lines can be secured from banks" . Its fintech arm also saw overall revenue and transaction volumes affected by the broader slowdown in economic activity and the availability of cash in the over-the-counter business. Yoma F& B fell 6.4 per cent on year to US$4.4 million, although it noted that there was strong month-on-month recovery after delivery services resumed on May 6. Yoma Motors declined by 23.2 per cent to US$4.3 million from US$5.6 million a year ago. Its heavy equipment segment sold 86 tractors and five JCB machines, compared to 124 tractors and 11 JCB machines in Q3 2020, while its automotive segment was hit by closed registration offices and dealer showrooms during April, and limited credit processing from local banks. The group also ceased operations of its Bridgestone tyres business, which it had a 30 per cent stake in, at the end of July as " the business can no longer operate competitively in the Myanmar market due to a price hike in Bridgestone tyres" . Shares of Yoma Strategic were up 0.1 Singapore cent or 0.7 per cent to 13.6 cents at 9.30am on Wednesday.   |

Asean names top Brunei diplomat as Myanmar envoyThe Association of Southeast Asian Nations on Wednesday appointed an envoy to Myanmar after a months-long delay in diplomatic efforts to resolve the coup-hit country' s political crisis.Asean' s foreign ministers said in a joint statement, delayed by internal wrangling, that they welcomed the appointment of Brunei Second Foreign Minister Erywan Yusof as the bloc' s special envoy. Member state Myanmar has been in political chaos since the military junta ousted Aung San Suu Kyi' s government in February, accusing it of fraud during 2020 elections. More than 900 people have since been killed in the junta' s brutal crackdown on dissent, according to a local monitoring group. Asean, which operates on a premise of consensus and non-interference, has been under global pressure to help resolve the crisis. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who joined Asean foreign ministers for virtual meetings, said he welcomed the envoy' s appointment and urged Asean nations " to hold the junta accountable." " I called on the Burmese military junta to immediately end the violence, restore democratic governance and release those unjustly detained," Mr Blinken said in a statement, using Myanmar' s former name of Burma. Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing attended an Asean meeting in April that led to a " consensus statement" that called for an immediate end to violence and a regional special envoy. Asean' s joint communique said the envoy' s task will include " building trust and confidence" and he will have " full access to all parties concerned" . Mr Yusof has already made one trip to Myanmar for Asean since the coup, on June 4, where he met with Mr Min Aung Hlaing. The appointment of an envoy is expected to clear the way for Asean to send emergency aid to help authorities cope with a severe Covid-19 outbreak. Britain last week warned that half of Myanmar' s population of 54 million could become infected within two weeks, and the UN estimates that only 40 per cent of health facilities are able to function. Mr Min Aung Hlaing has promised to hold elections and lift a state of emergency by August 2023, extending a timeline given shortly after the coup.   |

Protests, accusations against Myanmar junta ahead of coup anniversarySmall groups of students protested against Myanmar' s military junta on Saturday in Mandalay and a human rights group accused the armed forces of crimes against humanity ahead of the six-month anniversary of the army' s takeover.Bands of university students rode motorbikes around Mandalay waving red and green flags, saying they rejected any possibility of talks with the military to negotiate a return to civilian rule. " There' s no negotiating in a blood feud," read one sign. Myanmar' s army seized power on Feb 1 from the civilian government led by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi after her ruling party won elections that the military argued were tainted by fraud. New York-based Human Rights Watch on Saturday said the armed forces' violent suppression of protests against the coup and arrests of opponents included torture, murder and other acts that violate international humanitarian conventions. " These attacks on the population amount to crimes against humanity for which those responsible should be brought to account," Brad Adams, the group' s Asia director, said in a statement. The spokesman for the military authorities, Zaw Min Tun, could not be reached on Saturday to respond to Human Rights Watch allegations because his mobile phone was turned off. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners activist group says at least 6,990 people have been arrested since the coup. The group says the armed forces have killed 939 people, a number the military says is exaggerated. The army has branded its opponents terrorists and says its takeover was in line with the constitution. The military took power in February after alleging fraud in the November 2020 election, which Ms Suu Kyi' s party swept. The former electoral commission had dismissed the military' s accusations.   |

Myanmar floods, coup, complicate growing Covid-19 outbreakFlooding in Myanmar has displaced hundreds of people, slowing efforts to battle a fast-growing coronavirus outbreak amid the chaos that followed the Southeast Asian nation' s military coup, residents told Reuters on Tuesday.Heavy weekend downpours across southern states caused flooding in several towns, forcing healthcare workers to move Covid-19 patients to dry areas across drenched streets and alleys. " Hundreds of houses are submerged in water and only their roofs can be seen," Pyae Sone, a social worker in the Kayin State town of Hlaingbwe told Reuters by telephone, adding that the water had begun rising early on Monday. " Covid is spreading in the town. There are so many people who have lost their sense of smell and many who are sick, it' s not clear if it' s Covid or seasonal flu. " But now people can' t stay at home or gather in shelters, so the spread could be serious." Groups of volunteers and medical workers trundled bedridden patients, still hooked up to oxygen tanks, over murky flood waters in the Kayin town of Myawaddy, Facebook photographs posted by the Karen Information Center (KIC) media group showed. About 500 residential areas along the Thai border were affected, displacing hundreds of people, the group said. Bo Bo Win, the head of a charity in the town of Mawlamyine, 120km away, said at least another 500 people there had also suffered in the annual floods. " This year' s flood is not as bad as the one we experienced in 2019, but we are in the middle of a pandemic," Bo Bo Win added. Infections in Myanmar have surged since June, with 4,630 cases and 396 deaths reported on Monday. Medics and funeral services put the toll far higher, in an outbreak also linked to scores of new cases in China' s border province of Yunnan. Angered by doctors' support for anti-junta protests, Myanmar' s military arrested several doctors treating Covid-19 patients independently. The military has struggled to keep control since taking power in a February coup that triggered nationwide protests, strikes and fighting on multiple fronts in border regions as civilians take up arms against the junta.   |

Everybody is speculating this and that. Investors should digest the financial result annouced for 6M 2021. The company is greatlty affected by Covid-19, like in many companies. The company is now at the mercy of a white knight. If this guy is willing to pump in new capital into the company, it should be able to wave through the storm.

But remember Yoma is not Myanmar.   Myanmar as a country will be around always, whether prosperous or otherwise.   Yoma as a company cannot grow or last forever without cashflow and the astute leadership of Serge Pun.

Learn from China. She has shown the world how it crushed the turmoil in 1986 in order to bring peace in the next 50 years. Now is HK time. Look at how China crushed the activists in HK. Can anyone in the world stop her? Not even US dare to do anything on how China handles HK matters. Biden and his gang can talk the whole day on sanctions, etc on China but will she die because of that? The answer is obviously no. China is so big that she can stand on her own now. Myanmar has become a pawn between the 2 super powers now. ASEAN members cannot do anything too. With China and Russia backing, that' s why the army in Myanmar is not afraid of the west, same as North Korea. Of course, NK has nuclear which makes the west even more afraid.

Announced or not everyone know the situation in Myanmar. If the situation drag on for another year, Yoma will run out of cash, and the big backer Ayala will not inject more money anytime soon.

Myanmar Now, 7 Jul 21:
Already hammered by the pandemic, international food and fashion franchises are fleeing Myanmar months after the military sent the country and the economy into turmoil with its illegal power grab US pretzel chain Auntie Anne?s, Chinese hot pot chain Little Sheep, and Taiwanese bubble tea franchise KOI Thé are among the biggest names to have announced their branches will be closing permanently. Singapore-listed Yoma Strategic, owned by the tycoon Serge Pun, was the local partner for the parent companies of Auntie Anne?s and Little Sheep. Thiri Yee Mon, a spokesperson for Yoma, declined to comment on the brands? departures. Auntie Anne?s entered the country in 2019 and had outlets in the Junction Square, Myanmar Plaza and Junction City shopping malls in Yangon. ?Unfortunately, the changing operating environment has led to our decision of closing down the Auntie Anne?s outlets,? the company said in a statement last week. KOI Thé, which has branches in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, could not be reached for comment. Also among those leaving the country is the Thailand-based fashion accessory franchise Jelly Bunny. The company blamed the plummeting Myanmar kyat and higher shipping fees for its departure. The Norwegian telecoms company Telenor has said it is considering pulling out of Myanmar, raising concerns about online privacy. The arrival of foreign brands in recent years marked a milestone in the country?s short-lived emergence from economic isolation. Now, the recent closures are a sign of a devastated economy. ?Many shops were forced to close after the coup. It?s not just the branded franchises,? said a resident of Yangon?s Thaketa Township who regularly shops at fashion outlets. Large numbers of employees at locally owned companies have also been laid off. Princess Outfit Collection, a chain of stores selling traditional Myanmar women?s clothing, closed its Mandalay branch last month. The World Bank has predicted that Myanmar?s economy will shrink by 10% in 2021. Businesses have been suffering a cash squeeze after strikes forced banks to close in the wake of the coup, while consumer demand and foreign investment has dropped rapidly. Foreign companies that have stayed are holding back on new investments the Japanese supermarket giant AEON has halted a $180m shopping center project it was working on with the Shwe Taung company. |

Yoma is definitely a better buy than SMM. As long as  Aung San Suu Kyi  is alive, Myanmar won' t die so easily. Many people shorted this stock in view of the political turmoil in the country. Once the crisis is over, you will see these shortists paniky covering like those meme stocks.   |

With the realities of the current situation, the only reason share price is holding is that investors find it too painful to cut loss.   Just need one fund to decide to exit to recoup whatever cash it can still get (just like Telenor deciding to exit Myanmar fully). The exodus will be triggered.

SINGAPORE: Singaporeans currently in Myanmar should leave as soon as they can while it is still possible to do so, said the Singapore Embassy in Yangon.
In an email dated Jul 15, the embassy cited the deteriorating security and COVID-19 situation in Myanmar, calling on Singaporeans to "leave as soon as they can by the regular relief flights". "The Embassy cannot guarantee that the relief flights will continue on a regular basis, or that travellers will be able to leave the country freely on their desired dates of travel," it said. "The Embassy may not be in a position to organise any dedicated repatriation flight for Singaporeans at a later date." |
