 Alert Admin 		It does not really matter. Punters already have their minds made up. And also to note that YZJSH was elevated from 1.25 to 1.35 when the dividend of 0.05 was announced. Apparently the dividend did not appease both punters and investors. Without support or push, it was sale on and not sail on. When the critical level 1.30 was breached, the stock found itself at the next support level of 1.25. This is a trading or retail stock where money can be made both ways. Let's see what happens.

 Alert Admin 		Ah, thanks for the insights.
Indeed, YSB press release for their FY results did mention they are focused on product tankers orders as there is no demand for containerships and they are leaving the bulk carriers with the lower profit margins to their competitors.

Hopefully the profit margins on product carriers are as good as containerships.

Actully there is no containership orders cancallation. YZJ was just competing with Hyundai HI on the orders from Yang Ming Marine and seems to lose it to Hyundai. And in fact the market should never expected a Taiwanese shipping company to build ships in a PRC yard, especially given recent political tension. 

As for the share price drop, it was more related to tankers when YZJ getting more order exposure to tankers and relying heavily on tanker new orders this year. Tanker market has been the beneficiary of R-U tension, and there was rumours on monday that the tension could be eased. We can find tanker names drop a lot in  US, HK and China-A on Monday night/Tuesday, and YZJ just followed that.

Anyway I also think market overeacted and YZJ price will bounce back soon. Good sign seen in US market that ranker names rebound tonight.

I guess downpayments (20%) were made for the cancelled containerships, which YSB can retain as penalty for the cancellation

Oslo-listed Hafnia and three Greek companies Metrostar Management, Pantheon Tankers and Union Maritime were named as the ship owners that have provisionally booked the tanker slots at the shipyard, which is better known for building container ships and bulk carriers.

 Alert Admin 		@fuzzyshares, thanks for our cheap banter, lol. Can' t harbour too much optimism, last few days selldown batters it back to ground level. Being 1 yr investor, one ought be happy with 90c cost 
(ex FH) vs 1.24 + 5c + 5c. Still ahead 48%.
Some here think high divs = high share price. Some here don' t want the divs as long as the NTA grows. The Boss says he doesn' t even look at those 3 parameters, to the shortist delight....haha. No one is wrong, nor right....lol. Its gonna ding dong a long long time...patience is a real virtue.

I shifted some focus to FH, a fraction more interesting than SH for now....

@emailpeter, like your goodself I am also a LT investor, holding 1m shares that I bought last year. Like I said YZJSH is a retail counter and therefore it trades like a bobbing ducky, even if management gives a big ang pow. Could have made a couple of hundred k's but did not but still happy as the share progresses forward. As LT investor, we should stop lamenting as the share is making money and also the fact that the child YZJFH is coming good, hopefully.

Not sure how the LNG terminal will affect the forecast though.
It' s a good long term diversification though, given shipbuilding is cyclical.
Investors are willing to pay more when the profits does not see-saw over the years.

I suppose the bright side of lesser dividends is the company does not need to rely on costly loans the banks, and can weather the credit tighening better than heavily indebted peers.

Dear @Smallboat1021 and other LT investors, great fundamental study !!! Much appreciated and keep up the updates on this as the quarterly results emerge. Most have no doubt they are the best in class shipbuilder, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place they win. If I am allowed to continue on your study, the ave NP for next 3 yrs is RMB5144m = SGD1005m / 3950m shares, = SGD0.25 EPS. Valuing share > SGD2.00, based on even the most conservative analysts' reports. I certainly don' t feel you are off target. However not to douse cold water over your simmering optimism, if one were to google back on past 10 years of analyst reports, they have been tipping SGD3 when it was SGD1.90, and SGD 2.20+ when it was SGD1.05...... and so on.... Implying drastic (I' d say chronic !!) undervaluation.
 
No prizes for guessing why. Added to the geographical discount for YZJSH, that so called " China discount" , we now contend with new XJP political discount. While Ren did build an excellent tangential corporate ah long business, he deprived the true sailor investors of good and well deserved dividends. Hoarding away 10 years of good cash profit and diverted to what is known as YZJFH now. Seemingly both (temporary I hope) are only a fraction of its truer valuation. 5 + 5 = 7. You and many might even say 5 + 5 = 5.
 
As a LT investor, we were hoping to see this discount deplete as his high dividend destined SH cash hoard would have no more avenue to leak too but his younger gen found more in LNG and green gas powered ships and cargo. Including terminals. I' d say this time, this might well turn out to be a great accreditating venture. Google Fortescue green ammonia drive and its emergence. Shareholders want companies to grow both upwards and not only sideways. Fundamentals again will get hammered, the basis for its NTA valuation, doubters (yes shorttist and BB influencers) will use this notion to keep share at this level. Yes, we were highly dissappointed, he could have called a sweeter dividend and still achieved their diversification plans.

Page 23 gives an inkling as to aims. Seemingly breaking thru the 30% barrier, and heading to 40%. With emerging good cash hoard, I again hope, all this good cash has no where else to go, or rather no more excuses for them not to payout more..... As Adrian Loh tried to influence them, no doubling of divs occurred, they found a new loophole....
 
Anyone care to guess what 2024 dividend will be ? My reading is as long as they keep paying this low 5-5.5c, price will ding dong 1.35 - 1.50 for next 2 years. All the time in the world to slowly accum, or trade it like a bobbing rubber ducky, our good lad @fuzzyshares does......

Hey guys, I have been lurking in this forum for 2 years. As a big fan of YZJ, feel a little disappointed that, apart from order update, daily trade update and news update, you can seldom find any in-depth analysis/discussion about the company&lsquo s fundamentals in this so-called most professional stock forum in Singapore. Hence, I decide to raise up the analysis on the fundamentals/financials. Hope to 抛 砖 引 玉 and you bright guys not to be shy to share views on fundamentals.
 
I do not want to make clickbait, but I am shocked at how pre-mature the market&rsquo s understanding on YZJSH is. Compared to this forum, the coverage brokers&rsquo research on YZJSH makes me even more disappointed and suspect that they did not do any analysis or do not understand shipbuilding at all.
 
Firstly I will come up with a table show the Bloomberg consensus estimates of 4 shipbuilding companies (YZJ, China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard) as of today. I do not have too much opposition on the revenue side (despite YZJ&rsquo s 2025E revenue down by 6% weirdly) given the 3+ year orderbook coverage now for tier one shipbuilders (YZJ currently has USD 11b orderbook with annual delivery capacity of 3+bn) and rising trend of newbuilding contract price since 2021. However, the misleading parts is, when other shipbuilders are expected to see a ~10pct margin improvement in the comings 3 years, Singapore analysts only would like to give a stingy flat net margin of 13% to YZJ. Who should I believe in? The sector specialists in China and Korea? Or the formality-driven generalists in Singapore?

So where will YZJ&rsquo s margin really goes to? Here is my rough analysis.
Firstly, on the newbuilding price side, the shipbuilding price increased by 25+% from 2020 to now, and normally 2-3 years from contracting to delivery. That said, YZJ&rsquo s revenue in 2022 mostly reflected the low price orders contracted in 2020, and we can expected the 25+% increase in price to be recognized in revenue in 2025 and later. By tracing back the contracting date of YZJ&rsquo s future deliveries, I estimate YZJ&rsquo s recognized price in 23/24/25 will be 3%/13%/20% higher than 2022. Since YZJ hedged most of the FX exposure, I just ignore the FX impact here (which actually tend to be favorable due to USD appreciation).

Secondly, the largest part of cost comes to steel, which accounts for ~25% of revenue (~30% of cost). Over the past 12 months, steel price dropped from peak level of 6000+RMB/ton to a normalized 4500-5000 RMB. YZJ has secured most of its steel procurement in 2023 at the price of less than 5000, ~20% lower than the purchase price for 2022. So, only the steel price drop can lead to a 20%*25%=5pct upside in pre-tax margin. Going forward, given the weak demand of China property, there are unlikely to see steel price hike and the company also estimates the price to stabilize at ~5,000. So the margin upsides in 2024/25 of 4-5pct due to steel price can also be expected.

Thirdly, the costs of ship equipment and engines account for another ~30% of revenue. The price of such goods changes proportionally with ship price. That said, we can expect 30% * 3%/13%/20% = 1%/4%/6% increase in cost due to equipment and engines in 23/24/25.
Lastly, cables, paints, labors, utilities, and depreciation together account for the remaining ~30% of revenue. The prices for these factors are mostly stable, and we can even expect some scale effect. But to leave the margin of safety, let us just say they keep flat.
Then, to sum up, the net margin upsides in 2023 will be [3%(price)+5%(steel)-1%(equipment)]/[1+3%(price)]*[1-20%(tax)]=5.4pct. Do the same calculation for 2024/25, the net margin upsides vs. 2022 will be 9.0pct/12.0pct.
Above is analysis for shipbuilding margin, but YZJ also have other business like shipping. In 2022, other businesses contributed ~RMB 2.3bn revenue and 0.8bn profits (mainly shipping and some loan business pre-spinoff), the core shipbuilding margin was ~11%. So the &ldquo real&rdquo net margin of core-shipbuilding business for 23/24/25 shall be 16.4%/20%/23%. To be simplify, let us assume other business has the same margin as shipbuilding (actually much higher historically), then the net margin for 23/24/25 should be at least 16.4%/20.0%/23.0%. The 25E estimated margin of 23% is 9.4pct higher than 2022, which is similar to the market expected upsides of YZJ&rsquo s peers.
 
Let&rsquo s see by how much our estimates beat the consensus.
I would take market estimation of revenue for 2023/24 but uplift the 2025E revenue because there is no reason to see a drop in revenue given the fulfilled yard till 2H2026 and rising ship price. Taking my &ldquo real&rdquo estimated margin into calculation, YZJ will generate RMB 4bn/5bn/6bn in 23/24/25, beat consensus by 27%/50%/99%.
I do not think my estimation is inflated, but again shocked at how ridiculous the brokers&rsquo estimates are. Do they even follow the sector?

So guys, now you know what a chance you are facing to. The company now has a market cap of SGD 5.2bn, with 2bn net cash + debt investment on hand, and will earn another 3bn in the coming 3 years. That means you can get the most profitable shipbuilder, a cash generating machine for free after 2025. What&rsquo s more, the new order boom is yet to vanish. Containerships only take up 20% value of global vessels, the dominating parts of bulker and tanker orders are still on the way. Given YZJ&rsquo s USD 3bn order win target for 2023, we can expect the yard to be fulfilled till 2027 by this year. And the newbuilding price keep going north, YZJ&rsquo s earnings could still increase on the high base of 2025&hellip &hellip
