frankyly, everyone knows stocks are cheap now - question is when to buy.. Good to see spouts of green yesterday and hope there will be more patches of green Monday. A strong capital and stock market is in the bulk of the people's interest - supporting the consumption and service industries. When markets crash, SME businesses go bust and employees suffer.A bear or downtrodden market only serves the shortists..

Little doubt that STI will be green on Monday if Shanghai doesn' t give ang-pow. But likely to be followed by two-three reds. Furthermore, only STI green .... 70% of stocks either stuck or red.

be careful la...this " rally" no basis one...probably gonna fall flat quickly....oil shoot up so much but stocks hardly moved...now is bear market already...

Doubt the selling pressure reaching an end.

Central bankers are desperate that why they are turning to negative interest rate. If negative interest rate are apply to consumers who save their hard-earned $$ in the bank, there will be massive capital outflows of banks. This might be even worst than 2008 since last resorts such as negative interest rate are apply . Where can we go after cutting all the interest rate to below 0.

1% population owns 99% of the wealth and 99% population owns 1% of the wealth. (market need to correct massively to correct this)

Wall Street Week Ahead - Late-day buying could be start of turnaround

As U.S. stocks continue to struggle in 2016, equities are showing some signs selling pressure may be reaching an end.

But recent trading action on an intraday basis suggests investors may be starting to warm up to stocks again. In three of the last four losing sessions, late-day buying took over in a pattern that had begun to emerge at the end of January.

Jack Ablin, chief investment officer at BMO Private Bank in Chicago, views that as a positive sign. He pointed out in a recent note to clients that the so-called Smart Money Index, which compares trading action at the beginning and end of day trading , appears to have bottomed on January 12.

The rationale behind the index is that professionals tend to dominate activity later in the trading session, and buying in the latter stages is a positive signal.

" My suspicion is that you are seeing institutions nibble at extremely compressed valuations," said Peter Kenny, equity market strategist at Kenny & Co LLC in Denver.

" The bottom line is, if you are ending the session with a positive trend, that tends to give the impression that there are buyers out there."

Wall Street rallies S & P 500 snaps five-day losing streak

U.S. stocks rallied on Friday, snapping a five-day losing streak in the S & P 500, as financial, commodity-related and other beaten-down shares rebounded.

U.S. oil prices settled 12.3 percent higher, boosting energy shares .SONY 2.6 percent. The materials sector jumped 2.9 percent.

Investors also snapped up battered shares of financials.

Europe was strong and especially the banks in Europe, and that appeared to have some positive carryover effect on sentiment towards banking and other financial stocks here in the U.S

So, OPEC to cut? N where do the shalers, who are the real spoilers triggering this crisis (forget Iran - they were already a major player if not for American engineered sanctions), figure in the equation? OPEC cuts, oil px goes up n, hey presto, the shalers are back in full force after Cap 11. So, the winner is .... the American Shalers. OPEC kena KO good n proper in the super price punch down. If it is true that OPEC cuts uniterally, it only proves one thing - american companies can go into bankruptcy protection for recuperation, producing nations bleeding from financial tatters, which seem unimaginable like just yesterday, have much less options. Once awashed with seemingly unendable cash flowing from the oil machine, oblivious to the proverbial rainyday, now deeply buried in huge debt from unbriddled, n perhaps abusive n corrupt, spending, the oil sheikhs will probably slip into political oblivion together with tumbling oil price sooner rather than later if they continue to teek kee with the ang moh shalers. Enjoy the battles n see who kena knock out flat first !!!!!

Oil jumps almost 5% after comments by UAE energy minister

Oil prices jumped almost 5 per cent on Friday (Feb 12) after comments the day before by the energy minister of Opec-member United Arab Emirates sparked hopes of a coordinated production cut, yet analysts said such a move remained unlikely and that oversupply would persist .

International benchmark Brent crude was trading at US $ 31.43 per barrel at 2:15 pm Singapore time, up US $ 1.37 or 4.56 per cent from Thursday.

Friday' s jump in Brent came after the United Arab Emirates energy minister Suhail bin Mohammed al-Mazrouei said the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) was willing to talk with other exporters about cutting output.
