Russia, Saudi Arabia output freeze helps oil price higher in Asia

Oil prices rose in Asian trade after major oil exporters agreed on a production freeze, although market watchers were skeptical over how effective the deal would be in an already over-supplied market

Benchmark U.S. WTI light sweet crude was 1.4 percent higher at $ 29.45 a barrel, while European Brent crude gained 2.0 percent to $ 32.82 a barrel, after volatility in prior U.S. and European sessions.

Wall St rises as battered consumer, bank stocks gain favor

Wall Street minted its second straight session of solid gains on Tuesday, as investors snatched up beaten-down consumer discretionary, industrial and tech shares.

" I think you can make a case that a lot of stocks are oversold, and therefore they should be drawing some buyers from the sidelines," said Bucky Hellwig, senior vice president at BB & T Wealth Management in Birmingham, Alabama.

US equity market performance has been closely tied to oil prices as the commodity' s 1-1 / 2-year slide has deepened. Oil prices erased early gains on Tuesday after Russia and Saudi Arabia dashed expectations of an outright supply cut, but some investors took solace from the fact that the producers were in discussions.

Now oil down, dow up > 1%.  Apparently yesterday dow de-coupled from falling oil px.  So we see how mkt behaviour each day is driven by the sentiment of that particular.  Tmr, maybe dow down n oil down they' ll say shares are dragged down by oil px.  So, how much do actual economic fundamentals affect financial mkts?  Have ur own sense of it.  My personal take is very little.

Singapore' s STI Hits One Month High on Offshore Marine, Agri

Hong Kong stocks extended gains Tuesday as hopes for a cut in oil production gripped the market. WTI crude-oil prices rallied Hong Kong time to just under $ 31 a barrel, and oil stocks surged, with PetroChina ending up 6.4% and Sinopec up 3.5% .

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, a gauge of Chinese companies listed in Hong Kong, advanced 2% to 8,028.

Financials stocks rose after China new loan growth figures beat analyst estimates.

The outcome of the meeting between Saudi Arabia and Russia oil ministers will be a key focus for investors Wednesday.
