STI to cross 3000 boosted by long-term investors

Hong Kong Stocks Rise Higher

Hong Kong shares rose at midday on Monday, unperturbed by a gauge in the morning that showed Chinese business confidence weakened in February from January.

The Hang Seng Index increased 0.8% to 19,433 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index was up 1.1%.

The advance mirrored gains for the Shanghai Composite Index, which rose 2% on strength in mainland-listed property stocks after authorities said Friday that transaction taxes would be cut for some home buyers.

Hong Kong-listed shares of developers also rose, but gains were more broad-based in Hong Kong. Blue-chip financials, telecoms, developers and consumer-goods stocks all rose higher.

i dont think the shorts got burnt..they are just covering their shorts...and for all you know profitting from the rally too...

unless something drastic like QE4 happen...they will continue to short and short....long-term trend is bearish...

STIs bellwether stocks may set the mood for week

If their results exceed expectations, that could see the index rise above 2,700

The earnings performance of Straits Times Index (STI) constituents DBS Group Holdings, City Developments, ST Engineering and UOL Group will likely set the tone for the trading week.

" If these bellwethers announce results that exceed analyst expectations, that could generate enough positive sentiment to push the index above 2,700. If they do not, we could be stuck in the 2,580 to 2,680 range," remisier Alvin Yong said.

Two of the Big Three banks here - OCBC Bank and United Overseas Bank (UOB) - largely met analysts' expectations when they released their full-year results last week.

DBS beats estimates with 20% rise in Q4 earnings, pushing 2015 profit to record-high.

I think if sti want to soar then data out of China better improve. I think China has more or less bottom, so maybe 2Q let see whether their economy shown improvement.

Oil is a messy issue that has not been settled.

STI break 2500? It ding dong about 2600 and over 30 days, it seems to be well supported at 2550+

Downtrend still. But when will it end?

Wall Street ends flat, indexes post best week of 2016

Wall Street ended little changed on Friday, as Applied Materials (AMAT.O) helped lift the tech sector and offset a renewed drop in oil prices, with major indexes capping their best week of the year.

The Nasdaq rose, helped by a 7 percent jump in Applied Materials shares after the chip equipment provider gave a strong profit and revenue forecast for the current quarter.
