SINGAPORE (THE BUSINESS TIMES) - Medtech firm Biolidics on Monday (Jan 25) launched a Covid-19 antigen test kit which can be marketed and sold in the European Union (EU). The raw materials of the antigen test kit, named ClearEpi Sars-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Test Kit (ClearEpi ART), are sourced from JOYSBIO (Tianjin) Biotechnology Co, which Biolidics has a distribution agreement with. The kits are packaged and labelled by third-party manufacturers. The antigen test kit on Monday received confirmation for its CE marking, a notification process which indicates that the ClearEpi ART complies with relevant EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements. |

Biolidics has a clinical testing business as well... https://www.360dx.com/business-news/biolidics-acquire-singapore-lab-and-testing-business-s37m#.YBc-NnczYgo TPG sells more than 10% of Novotech to investors MON, FEB 01, 2021  PRIVATE equity firm TPG is selling more than 10 per cent of its clinical research and testing provider Novotech Pty Ltd to a group of investors. The transaction will value Novotech at more than US$2.3 billion as the company prepares for an initial public offering in Hong Kong later this year, said Joel Thickins, head of Australia and New Zealand for TPG Capital Asia. He is also chairman of Novotech. The valuation makes the company one of the most successful investments for the private equity group in Asia, he said. The Sydney-based firm has increased revenues by more than 30 per cent a year under TPG' s ownership since 2017, most recently helping with clinical trials for Covid-19 vaccines, as well as cancer and hepatitis drugs. " Novotech is a platform asset for us in Asia and a testament to the sector-led strategy we have pursued in differentiating ourselves from other sponsors," Mr Thickins said in an interview. He said TPG decided to invest in the clinical research industry in Asia in 2015 on intensifying investor demand for biotech companies and because the region' s populations were relatively untested in clinical trials compared with the US and Europe. To be able to offer clinical testing services to healthcare companies in the US and Europe was a big opportunity for the firm. TPG also helped Novotech expand overseas. The company operates in 12 countries, with 70 per cent of its revenue generated outside of Australia, compared with just 30 per cent three years ago.  |

Biolidics has anitbody test kits authorised by Phillippines FDA and Clearbridge has a medical Centre over there as well..   Philippines confirms local transmission of more contagious UK variant

MANILA &bull The Philippines has confirmed domestic transmission of the new, highly contagious British variant of the coronavirus, prompting President Rodrigo Duterte to abandon a plan to allow some minors to go outside their homes.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told news channel ANC yesterday: " Right now, we have local transmission where this individual or these cases with the variant have already infected their community, their family."

Citing the British variant, Mr Duterte said he had scrapped a plan to allow children aged 10 to 14 in low-risk areas to go outside their home starting Feb 1.

The Philippines has imposed some of the world' s toughest restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus infections, including internal travel bans. Since March last year, minors have been officially prohibited from leaving their home.

" I am afraid because this new strain strikes the young children," Mr Duterte said late on Monday.

" Go back to your homes... and besides, they' re good just with the TV. They can glue their attention to the TV the whole day."

The Philippine government had hoped that easing restrictions on children might boost economic activity, after a year when growth is expected to have contracted 8.5 per cent to 9.5 per cent.

Acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said this month that 50 per cent of the economy was driven by " family activities" , and without them, the economy could not recover.

The Philippines' caseload of more than half a million infections is one of the highest in South-east Asia.

Mr Duterte' s administration also has been criticised for its slowness in procuring Covid-19 vaccines, with the bulk of them not expected to start arriving until the second half of the year.

Biolidics has Antibody test kit approved in Indonesia... Indonesia set to pass 1 million coronavirus cases as vaccinations roll out TUE, JAN 26, 2021 - 12:41 PM [JAKARTA] Indonesia is set to officially surpass one million coronavirus cases on Tuesday, a grim milestone for the Southeast Asian nation that has struggled since last March to get the Covid-19 pandemic under control. The world' s fourth-most-populous country had recorded 999,256 coronavirus infections as of Monday, with the average daily increase running above 11,000 for more than a week, according to official data. Deaths from the respiratory disease have totalled 28,132. Those numbers are some of the highest in Asia but health experts believe the true spread is likely to be far worse. The government started its vaccination programme and tightened movement restrictions earlier this month as hospitals came under mounting strain. Indonesia has been criticised for having among the lowest testing and contact-tracing rates globally, and for focusing on securing vaccines at the expense of trying to enforce health protocols. Sabriyanti, a 42-year-old Jakarta resident, called for the government to impose tighter social distancing rules. " The government should be stricter, because we still can see crowds and those who don' t wear masks," she said. Muhaimin Zega, a 20-year-old college student, said the government should give " clear rules that people can understand" . " We can' t put all blame on the people, it' s the government' s responsibility to control its people," he said. Reisa Broto Asmoro, the spokeswoman for the government' s Covid-19 task force, said 80 per cent of people who had caught the virus had fully recovered. |

Biolidics Launches New Antigen Test Kit for COVID-19, Receives CE Marking

Biolidics has launched a SARS-CoV-2 antigen test kit, the " ClearEpi SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Test Kit" (the " ClearEpi ART" ). The raw materials of the ClearEpi ART are sourced from JOYSBIO (Tianjin) Biotechnology Co, Ltd, with whom the Company has a distribution agreement with, and the ClearEpi ART are packaged and labelled by third party manufacturers.

The Board is also pleased to announce that it had, on 25 January 2021, received confirmation for the CE marking (registration number: DE/CA70/40838-160662 for the ClearEpi ART (the " CE Marking&rdquo ).

The CE Marking is a notification process which enables the Company to market and sell the ClearEpi ART in the European Union (" EU" ).

The CE Marking indicates that the ClearEpi ART complies with the relevant EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements which enables the ClearEpi ART to be marketed in the EU.

It should be noted that antigen rapid test kits, such as the ClearEpi ART, are different from the serology rapid test kits for the detection of COVID-19 antibodies that are currently being sold by the Company (please refer to the Company' s announcement, among others, dated 30 March 2020).

Specifically, serology tests (administered via blood draw) seek to detect antibodies that usually appear in patients during the recovery phase of COVID-19, whereas antigen tests (administered via nasal swab from the lower part of the nose) seek to detect viral proteins (i.e. antigens) in patients during the acute phase of COVID-19.

Serology tests and antigen tests are beneficial for their ability to produce test results quickly and at lower costs as compared to the more expensive polymerase chain reaction (" PCR" ) tests which typically take between one to two days to produce test results. In this regard, given the growing demand for antigen rapid test kits, the Company has decided to further expand its COVID-19 test kit offerings to customise and manufacture its own range of antigen test kits.

However, serology tests and antigen tests have lower sensitivity and specificity than PCR tests which are administered via nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swabs to obtain respiratory samples. For this reason, the results from the ClearEpi ART are only for clinical reference and should not be the only basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. The clinical management of patients should be considered in combination with their symptoms, physical signs, medical history, other laboratory tests, therapeutic reaction, and epidemiological information.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, and given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the ClearEpi ART and/or the CE Marking are expected to contribute positively to the revenue of the Group for the current financial year ending 31 December 2021. However, the Company is unable to quantify such financial impact as the sales uptake of the ClearEpi ART cannot be determined as at the date of this announcement.

US drugmaker Merck said it would end development of its two Covid-19 vaccines. Pfizer announcing delays of nearly a month to its Covid-19 vaccine shipments to the European Union earlier this month, while AstraZeneca has announced a large cut in supplies to the bloc. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was looking at toughening border quarantine rules because of the risk of " vaccine-busting" coronavirus variants. |
