Asia stocks edged higher on Tuesday, tracking Wall Street gains as the focus shifted to corporate earnings and looming economic data from China amid signs Western-led strikes on Syria weren' t likely to escalate. The dollar pulled back along with safe-haven U.S. Treasuries as investor risk appetite improved in the broader markets. The near-term focal point was on China' s gross domestic product data due today. The world' s second biggest economy was expected to have carried most of its strong momentum from last year into the first quarter of 2018, after growing 6.8 percent in the fourth quarter. Saturday' s missile strikes were the biggest intervention by the West against Syria, investor risk appetite in the broader markets improved on speculation that the attacks would not lead to prolonged conflict. While most Southeast Asian stock markets tread water. Singapore shares STI edged up 0.3% to a near four-week high, with financials leading the charge. Singapore' s top lenders, DBS Group Holdings Ltd and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp Ltd , gained more than 1 percent each. The city-state' s non-oil exports unexpectedly fell from a year earlier in March as electronics shipments fell for the fourth consecutive month, official data showed on Tuesday. |

Bitcoin' s drop to an 11-day low of $7,438 is hogging the limelight, as usual, but other cryptocurrencies are struggling, too. Today, ether (ETH), Ripple' s XRP and bitcoin cash (BCH) all dropped to fresh lows for the year so far. Indeed, in Jan 2018, overall mkt capitalization of cryptocurrency market exceeded $800 billion - as of today, that figure has dropped to roughly $275 billion  , according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Dow is having its worst week since financial crisis.Fears about inflation and soaring bond yields have sent Dow plunging 6.5% through the first four trading days of tis wk. That would be the steepest decline in any week since Oct-2008. After losing a record 1,175 points on Monday, Dow tumbled 1,033 points more on Thursday. Dow turns negative, trades in wild swing 934-pt range. Currently down by 500 p0ts or just over 2%.
ST Index (STI), is down 2.6%, or more than 90 points, to 3,393. Earlier today, it had hit a day-low of 3,354, which represents a fall of easily over 100 points. Taking into consideration yesterday?s decline of 1.3%. STI has fallen by nearly 4% over two days. In fact, the index has given up all of its gains in 2018 so far, given that it ended 2017 at 3,403.
