The so-called expert talked like sing song Ah Kong and so forth....those are not the issues. The planes will fly again for sure. SIA will survive this and chances are do well in the coming 3 - 5 years. Why? well look and read the link below. Everyone is speculating on what travel will look like on the other end of this, well look at CNN' s article on China after the Wuhan lockdown was lifted. Its clear everyone is a bit tentative to travel, however and i quote " According to Trip.com, roughly 61% of Chinese travelers surveyed indicated that they would feel ready to travel again by August" . Bottom line humans have a short memory, in time this will be a distant memory and we are geared to travel and explore as a species. What the Govt did was basically ring fence and pretty much bail out SIA. What about the Grab Driver, the SME' s, the F& B cafes, the Shops inside malls, what did they get? $600 each, plus maybe $1000 for 9 months. Businesses get 75% of local wages (just for April mind you), and business are supposed to beg their landlord for the so called property rebate. Sure its Law now, but good luck trying to get that money from your landlord. As a business owner my staff have been told to work from home, their kids have been told to stay home, and everyone is told not to visit their grandparents to drop kids off. So somehow everyone lucky enough to still have a job has to work and do home based learning for your kids and also make sure NEA officers dun catch you loittering at your void deck when you go down to catch some air. If the govt wanted to make everyone whole they would tell each and every freelancer, show me your iras declaration and I will pay you your entire months salary and make you whole. Each and every business that stays closed cos of CB I will pay your rent and 100% of your staff cost, that would be a fair deal but no, here is 600 the rest you ownself figure out. SIA is lucky, they did not save money for a rainy day, besides being in the transportation business they decided to also be oil traders and made silly hedges, and their CEO now takes a 30% paycut, while the SIA crew and look forward to a fulfilling career as GrabFOOD delivery riders and basically being deployed to do everything from nursing to cleaning foreign worker dormitories. Yes a company like this is allowed to make a rights issue, get an automatic credit line of 4B (thats Billion with a B USD) from DBS and probably unlimited support from the Govt and Temasek to stay afloat. Not surprising. So as an SIA shareholder sure I am certain to make money down the road cos I am betting in a game where the rules dun apply and the game is pretty much rigged. I personally believe that this outbreak will go away in 6 months time. I am optimistic while you are pessimistic, but that' s ok, different perception. There is a huge demand for air travel after the outbreak is over, just look at China now after they lifted the lockdown in Wuhan. With cash support from DBS and Temasek, there is no more cashflow issue at the moment unless the virus is still around for 2 years. Yes, there will be some knee-jerk on the dilution of the shares in the near term but it will go away eventually when air travel normalises again. Some funds have already bought in when the price was $5.50. Having said that, the key element here is will this virus go away in 6 months or 2 years time? It is up to individual to perceive.
