NATIONAL broadband network operator NetLink NBN Trust' s first-quarter results beat initial public offering (IPO) forecasts, the manager said in unaudited statements released on Friday. NetLink Trust, which debuted on the main board in July 2017, turned in a net profit of S$19 million for the three months to June 30, beating the projected earnings of S$15 million by 26.9 per cent. Revenue came in at S$86.1 million, up by a smidgen of 2.8 per cent on the projected S$83.8 million. The outperformance was mainly due to higher diversion revenue, from the recognition of turnover from completed projects, as well as ducts and manholes service revenue on joint-build projects with Singtel. Expenses were below projections because of lower installation costs, depreciation and amortisation expenses, staff costs and finance costs, with the capital expenditure incurred being less than expected. |

Yes, some may not take up home fibre . However, that mgiht not be the case.
Although 5G speed will be much faster, it is charging by data downloaded. Where as home fibre is unlimited and cheap enough, many will sign up as more contents to watch and download. Also, eSport players will want low latency connection. Commercially, more base stations will be deployed as 5G coverage is much much amaller due to higher error rate operating in high freq and high transmision. Also since 5G high speed , more data need to transport and interchange, telco and internet companies,data centres need to subacribe even higher bandwidth (more revenue). The divestment of netlink is stipulated by IDA, so as to provide a neutral backbone service to all telcos and internet players lah. Or else it is a no brain cash generator for singtel.

So only need station to station fiber right?
When 5g is so fast, no need to subscribe home fiber anymore. No wonder Singtel quickly divest it.

Less distance of fibre? what are you talking?
Mainly fibre charges by connection points and data speed.

But I heard 5G need less distance of fibre than 4G. Anyone can confirm this?

Yes, 5G still requires the fibre backbone. Your phone transmit to base station and base station through fibre.
Unless there is black technology, or else fibre is still the most reliable mean to carry yr mobile data over long distance.

This has been rising while the rest sinking. Likely due to its defensive business nature, haiving monoplu over singapore fibre backbone.
Boring business, fixed yield Data centre still can close shop, but fibre backbone ? Fourth telco has joined singapore in this crowded small island. |
