Pfizer reaches safety milestone for Covid-19 vaccine, CEO says


NEW YORK (BLOOMBERG) - Pfizer Inc Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said that a key safety milestone had been reached in the study of its Covid-19 vaccine, and the drugmaker is now preparing to seek an emergency-use authorisation from US regulators.

 Alert Admin 		You are right if you are basing on fundamental.

However, the share price did not reflect it.

From low of $2.50 to $3.90++, it cannot be explained by fundamental.

Once it broke above $4, you can see huge short covering.

The stock is driven by BBs, nothing to do with fundamental.

Even in 6 mths time, assuming stock prices rise in anticipation of  vaccines, air traffic will not be more than 30-50%.

 Alert Admin 		this is the current state of the stock market. Its not about numbers. Dont forget stocks gone up alot during the covid and people behave as though covid is over. the support is not yet lifted. Look at property market, looking at property boom next year. Its not about the numbers or how much is earned more then the narrative

 Alert Admin 		People said that the company is making losses.

The company is kicked out of MSCI.

Despite all these, the company skyrockted from $2.50 to $3.80+ How did the management manage to do it? Who are the buyers? These buyers are forward looking beyond 2021, it is cheap to buy now for long term where it is worth $5?

Or simply this stock is cornered by some BBs?

 Alert Admin 		curious too. thought usually aftermarket trading is minor adjustments. saw 3.85 at 1659. queued for 3.83 and got it at 5+. then see again it became 3.80.

The worst is over for beleaguered tourism and aviation firms as Phase 3 Covid-19 vaccine trials draw to their conclusion with the end of the year. While herd immunity (i.e. 70% population immunity) will likely have to wait until 2023, such counters will likely enjoy a &ldquo higher-low&rdquo pullback in stock prices as the global population is slowly immunised from the coronavirus. 

  Of the ten currently under trial so far, Pfizer-BioNTech&rsquo s appears to have the most promise. It announced that their candidate demonstrated a higher-than-expected 90% efficacy with no side effects thus far. The trial will require another month to complete, but DBS sees this as the beginning of an anticipated stream of Phase 3 trial outcomes, with SinoPharm, Moderna and AstraZeneca looking to complete their trials by end-2020 with more to follow in 1Q2021. 

  &ldquo Assuming a positive outcome from these four vaccine developers, their combined manufacturing capacity could cover 1.9-2.5 billion people by end-2021, representing 25-32% of the total world population,&rdquo says a team of DBS Research Group analysts headed by Yeo Kee Yan. 

  But with no guarantee that each one of these trials will see a positive outcome, the team warns that it could take some time before the public can accept a vaccine developed at &ldquo record speed&rdquo vis-a-vis the usual 10-15 year timeframe. The logistics of vaccine distribution could also present a challenge, as the Pfizer-BioNTech candidate must be stored at around -75 degrees Celcius to remain viable. 

  Notwithstanding these challenges, a successful vaccine could bring much-needed cheer to equity markets. &ldquo Short covering likely popped up aviation and travel/leisure stocks in reaction to the Pfizer-BioNTech news,&rdquo the team writes. Even if this sharp spike proves temporary, the team sees the good news enticing bargain hunters and more short-covering activities as markets  anticipate a steadier recovery from 2H2021.   

 

 
 
Promising aviation stocks include SATS, China Aviation Oil, BOC Aviation, Air China and Malaysia Airports. For the travel and leisure sector, ART, CDL, HT, Sands China, Samsonite, Sunway, Erawan and Siam Wellness look to be promising options. 

  For domestic recovery plays, the team likes ComfortDelgro, FCT, Luk Fook, Chow Sang Sang, Bangkok Dusit, Ayala Land, Megawide Construction, Robinson Land, Robinson Retail Holdings, SM Investment and SM Prime Holdings.

 Alert Admin 		Agree. because aviation sector a lot of trickle down effects within Singapore economy. If we dont have airhub status, their high value products cannot fly in and out affordably at moments notice, many high value, high margin companies may not want to even consider Singapore as their base.

A bit bo bian.. cos aviation is a sector our govt wont want it to collapse.. and also ah gong got stake in all these blue chips, it is their interest to defend these stocks that they invest.. their JSS did help a lot of ppl from getting retrench and paycut, so i cant question the relief since i also benefitted from it

Its not fair to taxpayers. Reliefs are given foc and the population need to top up the reserves used. A better way will be for govt to extend cheap loans to covid hit companies, requiring them to return money when they recover. Look at the number of aviation people being deployed to MSF.. shake legs and collect salary. And we public footing these bills? I rather they go jobless.

What did SIA and SAT do when times are good? Reward mtgm with good bonus. When things go bad, ask for foc reliefs. We are encouraging moral hazard. Excessive risk taking like SIA fuel hedges. Anything go wrong, go to Temasek or mof for help. Who foots the bill? U and me.
